No, U of T will be a reject for sure, which is fine with me. I'm still waiting for my funding package from McGill, and both McGill and University of Arizona have arranged for me to visit over the next two weeks. My final decision will be based on funding and fit.

Hang in there, E! I haven't had any wine yet...I'm holding off on the celebration until I officially accept an offer, and until the rest of my McGill applicant buddies here have heard back!
-
Hey Kats! McGill's notifications have been super random, so please don't count yourself out yet. Almost everyone has a bad grade or 2 (or 5 if you're me), so try not to beat yourself up about that. We're 3 for 3 so far with McGill admissions around here, and we're going to keep the streak going!

Reviewing old material before starting grad school
PsycD replied to Papaya91's topic in Speech-Language Pathology Forum
I'm coming from out-of-field and will have no idea what's going on when I start in the Fall...and I'm not worried at all. You all have been/will be accepted, so you already have what it takes. You know a lot more than you think you do. In grad school most of what you learn will just be building upon what you already know, and even that will be reviewed. There's no way to really prepare for it, you just have to hit the ground running and do your best. All of you seem extremely dedicated and I have no doubt that you'll all be very successful. Just chill, recover from this application season, and rest up for a crazy-wonderful grad school experience. -
You are such a sweetie! You are so going to be joining us this fall! If you don't get accepted, all the Canadian SLP peeps here will drive to UBC and stage a protest on your behalf, wearing "Free Vancity!!!" t-shirts.

Haha I bet! You earned it

Truth! Since I decided to apply, my professors have been drilling the importance of fit into me. After the initial app screening, it's all about fit from there on out. I was rejected from all the schools everyone thought I'd easily get into and accepted into long-shots primarily due to fit.

Treatment for alcoholism will have to be integrated into our orientation programs.

Application Anxiety Thread
PsycD replied to autismadvocate's topic in Speech-Language Pathology Forum
Ask for an extension. They know most schools aren't finished sending out their notifications by then. -
When I read that, my eyes went lol I would die 5 times playing this game.

As long as it involves alcohol...

I did. I applied to 3 different programs in 2 different countries...6 applications altogether. For 2 of the 6, it was not necessary to establish a relationship ahead of time because of the way the programs handled their admissions and PI assignments (post-acceptance only). I was accepted to both of those. For the other 4, I reached out ahead of time. It was just a coincidence that my top choice required a significant connection ahead of time. It sounds like you've established a great relationship with your PI...now it's time for the torture of waiting. For

Trust me...ALL information is greatly appreciated . I just wanted to make that comment for all of those still waiting. We were just discussing last night about how staggered the acceptances have been this cycle, and I don't want anyone giving up or losing hope until they know for sure.
-
Well that's quite interesting because the people who have been accepted on here did not all receive their acceptances yesterday...the notifications have been staggered.

I'm an American and I got a kick out of that one lol

Sh*t people say when you are applying to grad school
PsycD replied to Clou12's topic in Waiting it Out
What a hater. Screw 'em. -
Another McGill Applicant! They'll be done with notifications early next week...hopefully you won't have to wait that long! Also, once an hour is not enough...once every 5 minutes is a MUST when a decision is imminent
-
Screw 'em. Soon, your signature will be full of school names colored in green, and not because of St. Patty's Day.

Yes. My program actually required that I not only select a PI to work with, but that he agree to take me as a student PRIOR to application submission. We started communicating last fall. First he did some vetting and reviewed my credentials. Then we had lengthy discussions about research interests and ideas. After that he said he hoped I applied..and here I am. He's now setting up a visit for me so I can make sure the fit is right. I won't accept the offer until I am sure of that.

Things worse than getting rejected from your top choice program.

Too bad. Finding out your boyfriend slept with a "friend" and that everyone knew, including several family members, and said nothing. -
