  1. OMG I used to ask my mom to make this for me all the time. So not weird.
  2. I'm poor now and will be even poorer when school starts, so I'll be taking advantage of the free classes offered by the Quebec Government.
  3. You are certainly not alone. Several of us on here have had faced the same doubts and agonized over the final choice. I narrowed my choice down to two schools and visited them both prior to making my final decision. I thought there would be a clear favourite after my visits, but it actually made things much worse. I had tears in my eyes when I left my 2nd campus visit just thinking about turning down such a fantastic offer. I had a total meltdown before making my final decision, and even a few days after to be perfectly honest. I made myself sick worrying that I didn't make the best decision. But, in the end I finally realized that no matter what choice I made, I really couldn't go wrong with either of them. I just had to weigh my options, consider my reasons for wanting to attend each, and decide. My advice is this: Once that final decision is made, don't look back and don't second guess yourself. Everything that happens after we click that "Yes" button is totally up to us. Just kick butt in graduate school, and you'll reap the benefits of your hard work and perseverance in the end. I truly believe that.
  4. I wish...
  5. I really wanted to do a messenger bag because I love the look, but I'm getting rid of my car and moving to a "walking city" so comfort is more of a consideration. Also, my school is on the side of a mountain and walking campus feels like hiking, so I have to go for support over style.
  6. Ooooh I love it. Thanks for sharing, Sayjo! I've been spending more time thinking about what bag to purchase than I care to admit. I started browsing this site ebags to help me browse.
  7. I have never... 1) Had coffee 2) Used narcotics 3) Gone skinny dipping 4) Swam in a lake or ocean 5) Wanted to settle down 6) Eaten anything other than vanilla on an ice cream cone 7) Been in love
  8. I would actually prefer to live with guys, as long as they don't smell like gym socks and pee everywhere but the toilet. Both men and women can be slobs, though. I'd pick a clean guy over a messy female any day.
  9. Notifications to fill out the FAFSA and housing forms prior to final admission decisions being made are normal. Almost all schools send these out at some point during the admissions process. One of my schools had the housing request form as part of the admissions application. There is a priority deadline for applying for financial aid, which often falls before final admissions decisions are made. So, schools send out notifications to make sure students don't miss out. The same is true for housing. Filling out the form early holds your spot, so in the event that you are admitted and want to live in on-campus housing, you'll have a better chance of getting a place before they're all taken.
  10. I want to spend the summer in Montreal, so I'm planning to move in May. I'm just waiting for my CAQ...I'll get my study permit at the border. I spent some time up there last month checking out different neighborhoods, so I have an idea of where I want to live. I'm debating whether to head back next week to find a place before I move for good, or just head up in May and stay at a hotel until I find a permanent place. When are you planning to move?
  11. I've cycled through several guilty pleasures over the last 8-9 months of app season...Chris Hemsworth movies, Original Sin hard cider, Jane Austen movie adaptations on Netflix. But, my latest guilty pleasure, which I blame on the stress of having to move to another country in a matter of weeks, is absolutely mortifying. My new guilty pleasure is... Reading books from the young adult fiction section of the library . In just the last 3 weeks, I've read the Fallen series, the Hush Hush series, now I'm onto The Mortal Instruments. I'm pretty sure McGill would refund my tuition deposit if this got out.
  12. Wow, it is??? I must have missed that. Thanks so much for the clarification. My apologies if my presence here for the last 8 months has offended anyone. There is no forum for PhD CSD, so I've been hanging out here the entire app cycle. If anyone has a problem with that, please feel free to file a complaint with the GradCafe police.
  13. Hey guys! I'll be starting a PhD program in the fall, and I seem to be the only one out of the GradCafe bunch this cycle who is doing so. I was admited directly from my BS program, so I will be skipping the Master's. I'm interested in research and teaching, not practicing, so the direct-to-PhD route was the best option for me. I think AMKersh is doing the right thing by starting the MS and figuring things out en route. Some people love the idea of doing research until they actually have to do it...it's def not for everyone. I'd recommend getting heavily involved in research as much as possible during undergrad to help with the decision. It'll help you shape your future goals and make you a much more attractive graduate school candidate. Good luck everyone!
  14. You def should! But, you will be starting at UBC in the fall :-)
  15. Yessssss!!! Congratulations!!! I'm so happy for you!!!
  16. You have no idea how much better I feel to see that I am not the only one who had this idea pop into their head lol
  17. I wouldn't mind if they were real friends. If they really cared about seeing me they'd have done it while I was here, so no thanks.
  18. You're going to need buckets of sunscreen and a humidifier instead. I just left Tucson last week. After just 4 days in the desert, I sounded like I had Tuberculosis and my hair looked like tumbleweed.
  19. My list: Backpack Ink Pens Snow Boots Sanuk Flip-Flops A 4-year supply of Kleenex to catch my tears Alcohol
  20. Wait...wth??? This is a joke and I'm just too dense to get the punch line, right???
  21. For the sake of my own sanity, which is almost nonexistent after enduring this app season, I have simply ceased discussing anything about graduate school with people who haven't been through this. They just don't get it.
  22. Nice to see others heading to Montreal. Gruby, I'm from the US and will be an international student as well. Good luck with the move!
  23. lol Ooooh Max, I am so with you on this. I'm grateful to have received funding, but the funding is not enough to cover all of my expenses until the 2nd year, and the amount of money it is costing me to move to another country makes me want to cry...every day.
  24. English and French, the latter not as well as I thought as shown during my recent trip to Montreal. Instruments: Oboe, Piccolo, Violin, Flute, Bassoon. LOVE music of all kinds.
