I've had a lot of weight gains and losses since starting Uni. In undergrad I gained the freshman 30 - over that summer I lost it, maintained throughout the semester and lost some more when I did a study abroad. Came back from study abroad and gained some about half back. Stayed like that through graduation, moved to Europe lost 30-40 lbs. Came back from Europe, studied for GREs and applied to Grad School, gained 65 (2011). Started having some hip, leg and back problems so I got to the gym and have so far lost about 20lbs of that. I still go to the gym but I'm not losing much because I'm so sedentary and I'm not the one in control of the food budget/shopping. When I move to start my program in the fall I'll definitely be more active (setting up the new apt, meetings, new classes, etc.) and I know a lot more now about healthy eating, nutrition and portion control than I did when I was 18 so I'm feeling pretty good about the prospect of losing more weight. Plus the university has a gym so I won't have to pay for a membership anymore. Once I move I'm also committed to losing 80-100 lbs for the sake of my happiness, sanity and health.

I majored in psychology. Part of the policy as stated on their page is if you have any other major you have to make up for that by taking additional crim classes. -

Really? No one has anything to say about New Haven? Where are all the Yale, SCSU people?

So here is the skinny on Maryland: 3 Faculty members review each application. If all three write acceptance, you get to be further reviewed. If 1 or more write acceptance, you might be further reviewed depending on the applicant pool of that year, but generally the application is further scrutinized. There are generally more faculty who write acceptance than there are spots. This year had 10 spots with over 100 applicants. They do want as close to perfect GPAs as possible. While I think the cut off was 3.0 - faculty see it as a red flag if you have a Masters degree and have below a 3.5-3.6. They are more lenient with only Undergrad GPAs. Good GREs can compensate for this. If you have low GREs - you GPA better be high if you want any shot. If both are questionable you better have the most stellar LORs to address how awesome you are and that despite a weak such and such - you are excellent. They favor people without Master's degrees in a roughly 60/40 ratio in part because they want their students to be able to take some of those master's level classes. If you come in with those already - they have less people to fill lose seats. -
I've worn the same pair of Chuck Taylors for 8 years. They're perfectly worn in. Can't wear in winter though. Canvas shoes aren't made for cold weather. Next pair I get is going to be custom. Converse really set the standard with canvas so anything else is pretty much the same in terms of thickness unless you find a pair that have extra lining or something.

I don't think you can be overqualified to do a PhD. Two of the individuals who were in the same lab as me during my master's were PhDs students under the same professor I was. One was coming from several years as a successful lawyer and the other from a successful career in computers (both changing paths to pursue clinical psy.). -
I do most of my traveling solo. UK, France (a few times), Ireland - moved to Spain solo and lived there 2 years. Portugal, backpacked through Italy for a few weeks, Holland. Been to Israel but that was with a group. Turned out okay.

I've been applying to different programs, revised my essay each year. The first round of apps was before I got the second master's so I can understand the rejections. So I've been revising everything I can to emphasize my research abilities and interests in my SOP. The only thing I could think is if I had to - do whatever I can to make the GREs higher and reach out to more faculty before I apply to programs.

I completed a second masters degree (the first was part of a combined degree program with my undergrad). I've worked in 3 separate labs doing data collection, lit reviews, running participants and so on, designed and implemented a completely new survey for my master's thesis. I'm attempting to get published, I'm a contributing author on a new book on American Crime which is being put together by one of the big names in Criminal Justice research. -
I feel like I must be doing something wrong...I see all of you getting acceptances here and there. My undergrad GPA was a 3.56 (psy major 3.7). I have 2 masters. One in counseling psych (3.96). One in forensic psych from John Jay (3.56). GRES are medicore: 580/580 4.5A I wanted to take them over by was to broke to afford the fees. This is my third year applying to programs. Third round of almost universal rejections. (Still waiting on 3 schools). I don't know what else to do at this point. I worked as a research assistant, participated in several labs for my research based master's. Wrote a master's thesis which I designed my own enormous survey for. I really don't know what else I'm supposed to do and I'm completely at my wit's end.

Has anyone heard anything definitive from U. North Dakota's Clinical Psychology program?

I really hate this whole process. Every time I get a rejection it makes me feel like no matter how much I try to improve myself, still no program wants me. -
Reviving this thread. Does anyone know what the areas of West Haven and The Hill (in New Haven). I see all Yale students here but I never applied there. I was accepted to University of New Haven for a PhD (ironically located in West Haven). Any info would be appreciated. Also considering options on living alone versus roommates. I'd really prefer to live alone but if there are other people on the board heading up there who are also going to be looking, it would definitely help will expenses and such.

I haven't heard anything either. -
Has anyone gotten emails from U. Arizona - accepted or otherwise recently? I just checked my application and saw that my status was recently updated on Feb. 28th but I don't see anything under the application for admitted, rejected or waitlisted.
-
Was that North Texas? I got those same emails. I especially love when I get an email telling me not to forget to fill out a FAFSA...for a school I was rejected from.

No one has heard from Maryland's Crim J program yet. Based on previous responses in the results search, I think we can expect answers within the next 1-2 weeks. Though, they were also recently hacked and there is no telling how that might delay admissions decisions. -
Columbia has the reputation but Hunter is just as good school. Depends on who offers funding, if any. Hunter is a better option because tuition is only $8k a year roughly, versus private which is probably $30k or something.

University of Maryland, College Park...email?
Varangian replied to Crucial BBQ's topic in Waiting it Out
No. I have the same message in the ASF. I expect it will be updated with in the next two weeks. :\ Although there was that recent hacking thing that happened to the people at the university and I wonder if that hasn't had a delay on decisions. -
How Are You Coping With The Torture Of Waiting???

In between job hunting and the gym... copious amounts of alcohol. -

That seems like something most people determine early on in their decision making process when choosing schools. From your previous posts you've already been accepted to 4 schools with full funding and essentially holding those spots hostage until you pick one. That's really unfair to everyone on those waitlists who are probably riddled with anxiety hoping to hear something. If you've been accepted to 4 schools then yeah, your qualifications are great. Most people are ecstatic enough to get accepted to 1, let alone 4. -

Those of you who already have acceptances but are waiting on Maryland - is that your #1 choice?
