  1. oh shoot, that's what I meant. I thought today was Tuesday...I need sleep.
  2. rumor has it Notre Dame acceptances come out tomorrow
  3. Why didn't you send an outstanding application to every place you applied? That doesn't seem like a very smart strategy... I got an email from Yale, but I haven't bothered to look at the website since I know it's a rejection
  4. Nostradamus was right. Rejected via email this morning. That about does it for me...I haven't even made it onto a wait list, pretty depressing. Anyone getting multiple admits and wait lists at the ivies care to share their stats (either here or pm)?
  5. If you're talking to me, I wasn't. I know that a) they interviewed all their potential admits this year, and b ) they have no waitlist. I've just assumed rejection based on this. I would be doing the same for Notre Dame, however I know they do have a waitlist, and I don't know that they would not call someone for an interview if they are waitlisted. Though I'm pretty sure not being invited for the interview is the same as rejection at ND.
  6. Don't know if anyone else applied, but Brown just announced.
  7. Rejected from Harvard ThD. I know of one ThD admit from here. I haven't heard about the Harvard PhD...
  8. We find it's always better to reject people on a Friday. Studies have statistically shown that there's less chance of an incident if you do it at the end of the week.
  9. OMG just the other day I got a random wrong number call from Providence Rhode Island. I about flipped my lid when I saw the phone ring. I was sure it was Brown >_<
  10. loans are not just need based. People go on to PhD's ideally, but many don't.
  11. I haven't a clue. I wouldn't have known they have met at all if it was for thegradcafe
  12. I have class with people on the Harvard Adcom, I feel like asking to be put out of my misery already. uggg
  13. 1, It wasn't required, then it was, now it isn't. There's a waiver request form somewhere. If you do well on it, submit it, if you don't do well on it, don't submit it. I was admitted with a bad score. 2. It depends on your concentration. Certain concentrations like Islamic studies have few course offerings, so you kind of have to go where the classes are. The more popular concentrations there are scores to choose from. you have to take 6 classes in your concentration, 4 that arent, and somewhere in there demonstrate intermediate proficiency (2 years equivalence) in a foreign language. 3. PM me if you have specific questions. 4. 50% tuition is the minimum, though I'd probably say most students get 100% tuition remission. 5. Based on that, if you write a strong statement as well, I don't see a reason you shouldn't get in.
  14. You mean if we haven't received a rejection email we are on the waitlist? Has anyone received a rejection? I would assume rejection before the waitlist otherwise... Did you really expect them to admit an Origenist heretic?? Harvard on the other hand... you'll be a shoe in

    Plan B

I'm applying to various fellowships for the summer regardless of admission. If I'm not admitted it will keep building up my CV at least. I would definitely attempt to adjunct at my undergrad... So far that's all I got.
  16. I know this isn't the math forum...but perhaps some of you are overlooking that representation does not correlate to the number of students of a given gender-race-etc makeup in a given program, but to the representation of said groups in the population at large... Looking at the Duke stats above, and the chart here http://en.wikipedia....e_United_States, the fact that the students are 63% white does not mean that they are overrepresented, but that they are exactly on par with their representation in the general populous. I might also add, it overlooks a slight hunch I have that white males far outnumber other groups in the numbers that apply, meaning that it would actually be more difficult to gain admittance as a white male even granted their proportional representation, or higher head count, at the school. As far as the makeup at Harvard, by no exaggeration, I would say probably approaching half the HDS student body would identify as something other than heterosexual. I would also say that HDS is, indeed, somewhat desperate for racial diversity. I cannot say most because I don't have the figures, but for example, with the exception of a couple, all of the students studying Buddhism I know are white. We also have an initiative that offers non-white (maybe non-asian also) applicants an all (or at least airfare and lodging) expenses paid visit to HDS, and a waiver of the application fee. The move away from New Testament and Hebrew Bible scholarship to other religions is apparent in the fact that there are several chairs which have gone unfilled after the retirement of professors like Koester, Bovon, Cross, and surely others. Here were the stats (for the div school, not religion PhD) for the year I matriculated: MTS: 172 MDiv: 146 ThM: 3 ThD: 41 Female: 53% Male: 47% Students of color: 24% International students: 10% Average age: 27 Religious affiliations: Approximately 30
  17. Well...if I were you, I would begin my statement of purpose something like: "As a female Native American Muslim..."
  18. So I'm guessing if I haven't been asked for an interview by now that's a bad sign :/
  19. I wouldn't go so far as very well respected. I'd say it's respected... My perception is that it's kind of a second tear consortium after the usuals (Harvard, Yale, etc). That said, I can think of a name or two (at Berkeley at least) that are top of their field, and similarly, at least one scholar with a degree from there at the top of his.
  20. Harvard students and professors hold the school in high regard, if that's worth anything.
  21. It's fairly common for schools to extend their deadlines for people in your situation. Harvard did for me, and they were the least flexible school I dealt with when I applied. I, for one, would hardly blame you for accepting now, and if you are offered something better, rescinding your acceptance later. Normally I would think it very unprofessional (probably immoral), but they are creating a situation which I think probably everyone here would agree is unreasonable. You may write something to the effect of "I accept, contingent upon the disclosure of an agreeable offer of aid," which would put the ball back in their court, and allow you an out in the event you find their offer less agreeable than another school's.
  22. Wow congrats to you guys! Acceptances already!
