There are many things you can do. You can work in the field. That way you can buff your resume with relevant experience for your potential PhD track. If you have poor grades from undergrad, you re-take some classes or pursue a post-bacc or a Masters. If you have time (and money), you can re-take the GRE. Depending on the program, you may have to take a subject test so prepare for that too. 

Don't. At most bring a notepad and maybe sketch something out **IF** they ask for something specific. Obviously I can't speak for every school but a good part of the interview is to see if you can hold an academic conversation, not to quiz you research minutia. Talk about your research as if you're explaining the abstract.

After being rejected from WUSTL (MCB) and Penn State Hershey (BMS), and radio silence from other universities that I applied to, I literally had no hopes of making it this fall..But..... Just got an skype interview invite for UIUC (MCB)!!!!!   Feels great.. Pray for me and wish me luck.

Here's my sweet baby, Lyra. I share a small apartment with my boyfriend and she's more than comfortable. It can be done if the cat has a lazy AF and chill personality. You may have more issues with a rambunctious one in a small living space. I wish I could have a dog too though. :/ I am definitely more of a dog person. 
 
Anyway, my lunch menu is brie, crackers, and a Green Flash West Coast IPA.

Just got accepted to U Chicago's Human Genetics program!! im so excited, I had so much fun there on my interview.
Posting because I wanted to give hope to others with only 1 interview - it can work out! At the end of the day you can only go to one place. 

I can't say the words "Pinot Noir" without thinking of Titus Andromedon....

Keep it short and cordial. No one has time to read a lengthy email about you gushing over the school. My template was along the lines of "Thank you for taking the time to interview me at [X school]. It was a pleasure meeting you and getting to discuss [insert: general school stuff, specific research stuff, etc.]."

No, don't bother. The world will end at that point. 

Yup. Definitely do this. Give each interviewer a short and simple "thank you for your time," and make sure each email is slightly personalized. If something memorable happened during the interview, bring it up. Like for one of mine, my boyfriend's father was his attending. Small world!
