  1. I'm going to give my own interpretation on the male species. They prefer not to think their actions out and typically end up in situations which could have been avoided. They prefer to be the successful one among their group/family. I would guess this is how a typical male acts? I think he finds it more as you bragging about your success and probably finds it a bit annoying. He probably was okay with it first, but it could have gone to the point where it seems like you're just telling him how much better you are than him. Just my personal view on things.
  2. I previously thought that I would be debt free for the most part, but I don't think I will anymore. I will probably owe between $15k - $25k after graduating, but I am sure that I will be paying it all off within my first year after graduating.
  3. I'm totally scared of grad school. I honestly don't think I'm smart enough or remember enough from my undergrad. After figuring out where I will end up I will be studying like crazy to remember a ton of things from my undergrad.
  4. That would be great if they had a kind of progress bar, but I don't think they have time to do any of that.
  5. Now that I know that my first choice is finalizing applicants and will be sending out decisions at the end of next week, I stopped checking the application status page for every school I applied to. I think knowing that has calmed me down a bit and I can concentrate on the more finer things in life such as trying to cram as much information into my head before grad school starts.
  6. Just got an email from a friend at my dream school. He attended the staff meeting today and he said that the last of the applicants are being finalized. Also mentioned that he's pretty sure I was part of that group. My dream school decisions will be sent out at the end of next week. Oh boy...the wait is definitely going to be unbearable.
  7. If you really must have that book within 2 days, then I'd say it is worth it. If you want to save money and don't mind waiting a few days more for your book to arrive via free shipping, then I probably wouldn't get it.
  8. I check maybe once a day excluding weekends. And for someone who asked a while back, the school is UC Irvine.
  9. Just to add onto my list of recommendations. Note this is for Windows users. -Comodo firewall (free) -McAfee Site Advisor (free and no annoying ads) -HijackThis (free) -Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware (free) -NoScript (free firefox plugin)
  10. I think he's been doing it since high school. I tried it once, but didn't like it after writing out my first sentence.
  11. If he's going with you to the US, then I'm guessing that you guys will be living together? If this is true, then it must mean he is limited to only nearby universities. Unless you mean both of you will be in the US at the same time, but not necessarily living together.
  12. Just in case anyone was interested in the bags I'm looking at: -Brooklyn Industries (have) -Booq Bags -STM Bags -Timbuk2 -Pakuma
  13. I currently use a backpack for my laptop, books, and notebook. I do have a messenger bag I got for free, but it's not big enough for my laptop. I might be buying another messenger bag or backpack for grad school. Still a bit undecided, but I have scoped out choices already.
  14. Find a research assistant position at a local university and even offer to work for free.
  15. I normally just do regular bullet points and write a page number down in case I need to read it over. I have a friend who takes notes in a somewhat interesting way. For example, let's say the thing to copy down was, "The cow jumped over the moon." He would write this down on his paper: "T_e c_w j_mp_d _v_r th_ m__n." He would take out letters and fill them in later. Apparently it helps him remember things.
  16. I submitted almost all of my applications in the end of October and I'm still waiting for 7 of the schools to get back to me.
  17. If you have time to commute, then of course it would be possible. I didn't say it would be enjoyable and you might get tired of it after a while. I had a friend who had a 2 hour commute to and from school which he did all during his undergrad.
  18. I don't think I have issues pulling all nighters. It's currently 12:48am PST and I feel a bit sleepy, but I'll probably lay in my bed for at least another hour or two before I even fall asleep. Then I'll wake up around 9 - 10am. I have more issues just trying to fall asleep.
  19. I think most have no choice since April 15th is supposed to be the deadline for decisions. Either way, it will be: April is it or bust.
  20. Can you get the same job regardless of which school you attend? Look into the schools a bit more and find out where the alumni end up. So would a brand name university determine where you end up? I think it depends on your field of work.
  21. Yep, my status says that I'm still in AcadReview.
  22. Still waiting on 7 and I have a feeling next week will be it for me. My dream school said late March to early April and next week makes sense since it will be both of those.
  23. quizlet.com is also a good site to use to study.
  24. You can always rent a moving van or hire people. If you're not keen on selling stuff due to sentimental reasons, you can always store it public storage and retrieve it when/if you move back.
  25. Why would guys be scared of a smart girl? And perhaps you can meet some nice guys in grad school.
