  1. lol yeah and I come from a very traditional set up wherein girls are married off before they hit 25. It's kind of like I rebelled and broke the established norms and on top of that, I am planning to fly to an alien country completely unaided for a better career. I guess, deep down, people are jealous and envious of others' success, and since they cannot say anything positive about you, they find it necessary to pass snide or demeaning comments to bring you down.

  3. I gained a lot of late. I don't eat much but have to sit in office from 10 am to 6pm. Went to my nutritionist and she said it's probably because of stress and sleeplessness, together with sitting for long hours, that has made my body bloated. Hating it.

  5. One of my programmes is going to inform in February, so I am really getting paranoid about that. The other one will get back with an acceptance or rejection in mid of March. Even if the university accepts me, the scholarship committee would inform in May whether they are going to fund me or put me on the reserve list (with an option to self-fund). Absolutely nerve-wracking!

  7. "You" plan to go abroad for studies?? You are already 27, when will you get married?" Pisses me off like anything!
  8. Well, last year I applied to a Human Rights Watch fellowship program and since some of my documents were confusing, they got back to me, asking for details about the programs I previously undertook. I mean to say that they took genuine interest and it actually gave me a lot of hope because they were considering my case individually instead of downright trashing my application for having unclear information. After two months of wait, however, I was informed that I was not selected for the program. Was really disappointing. Not trying to demoralize your hopes, but this is what happened to me. They might be considering your application. In any case, all the best to you! Hope you get in.
  9. Damn! everytime someone's app gets declined or they don't receive funding, my blood pressure goes low

  11. a well-maintained LinkedIn profile. I actually received job offers twice via LinkedIn. And I use Twitter professionally, but can't say it's an academic profile website.
  12. I am in a fix. First I come from a traditional background wherein no females are allowed to leave the country alone, but I rebelled and fought for it and convinced my family about my dreams. So this scholarship is really, really important to me. Second, I have a job and got an offer for a better one but I am not switching right now because I am waiting for the result. I don't know what am I going to do next, probably apply for more scholarships but I am not sure if I will have the same kind of enthusiasm after being rejected (the horror :S). I so want to study more and expand my horizon so as to increase my chances of being an international reporter one day. I am completely fixating on the scholarship I have applied to and honestly, if I don't get it, it's going to be a BIG disappointment for me. Not prepared to tackle failure
  13. Wrote wrong date of work experience in my CV and the right one in my online application. Well, every time I am looking at my application, I am finding flaws. Imperfect sentence structures in my SoP, I am finding my writing samples to be substandard, etc. One part of me says that this is a strong application but when I think of this application being compared to others’, it’s giving me the creeps.

  15. So depressing. Particularly the part where you mentioned that the committee starts nitpicking the Bs that one scores in some of the subjects. My overall performance was way too good and I outperformed 85 students (I was among the top three) with a GPA of 3.7 but I had some Bs in my final year. And when I think of other applications with 3.9 GPAs, etc. being compared to mine, I imagine my application sent to the list of rejected applications. I get too discouraged and pessimistic. Every time someone tells me they have not been selected, my eyes well up with tears. This is absolutely torturesome!
  16. When I submitted my online application to the university, they sent an automated email to both the authors of my recommendation letter. One of them uploaded the letter and I received an notification immediately. However, the other author -a professor - says she didn't receive any email from the university. I contacted the varsity but no reply yet and I have a deadline tomorrow. Too worried. :/
  17. Hello, Can anyone please take a look at my motivation letter for a Women and Gender Studies programme. I am panicking because didn't get time to draft it properly. Please let me know who can help so that I can send my letter. Would be much appreciated.
  18. I am applying for a European scholarship. Let me prepare a final draft and I would send you. I actually have to write two letters as I am applying to two different programmes - Journalism and Women & Gender Studies
  19. Erasmus Mundus Journalism programme (Europe). I am given a limit of 500 words to write a motivation letter. I wrote 1400 but don't know what to do with it :/
  20. I am applying. Not sure what to write either.
  21. Hello Poetic life, I have been through the same and I felt terrible emailing my professor again and again until one day I gathered the courage to call her up. Things went smoothly afterwards. However, she told me to draft a letter myself because she didn't have time. Therefore, I suggest you call your professor up and discuss the problem. That would take care of your worries.
