  1. So Oxford is a better and cheaper program that allows you to go for a PhD after.... Why is Harvard still being considered?!
  2. ... I think there is a difference between the medical school (professors, research, funding, etc) and the hospital (professionals, installations, vallet parking, etc)...
  3. Lol guys............................... Relax. Really.
  4. I wouldn't assume anything. I would pick up my phone and call Cornell and UCLA to know my application status. You need to know facts to make a decision... Not assumptions. And please, DO NOT accept an offer that you can potentially turn down a few days later. It is just not the right thing to do, and everybody loses. Good luck
  5. Berkeley over CMU... For an M.Eng. I would never switch from Berkeley (only, perhaps, to columbia or stanford)
  6. Yes, I have a poi for my top 3 choices. I visited one a couple weeks ago and just booked the flight to visit one in 2 weeks. I want to make sure we click and their research interests me...
  7. Berkeley with no doubt!
  8. I don't know if I should pick an MS at a top prestigious school or a PhD at an good school... I'm gonna cry

Talk to your current advisor/PI and anyone else that you trust as a mentor for advice. Best of luck :)

Thanks guys, you're all awesome! I am going to the funded PhD! I received the official funding today and it is very generous, and the research is amazing! I am just too scare about making the final decision lol. I'll let it sit in my inbox a few more days...

  9. Guys, I have narrowed down to 3 schools, but I cannot make a decision. I am about to flip a coin.... How are you guys making your decisions?!?!?!?!!!
  10. We usually receive request to submit paperwork once the school has accepted us. But I would talk to the dean straight away... It is much harder being accepted as an international student in the US. The admission rate drops substantially...
  11. MS at UW-Madison is a much better option. The MEng at Berkeley is a good program, but it is really short, and would make your job searching short as well. The program is only a year long. UW-Madison is a great school, and it is funded! An MS usually takes 2 years to complete and in the mean time you could establish a good relationship with professors and possibly apply for a funded PhD student if you want to go that route. Congratulations on your acceptances! :-)
  12. I'm attending the American Society for Engineering Education Annual Conference, not really considering other conference due to time strains
  13. Can I read it? I'm an engineer but I love reading! =)
  14. Status changed to "DECISION MADE" And the following message was in the end of the page: Decision Status: Available beginning 3/7/2014 Your application decision is now available online
  15. My first paper was (finally) accepted for publishing! Idk if I laugh or cry

  16. Hi guys, So I've just received a notification that my paper was accepted for publishing (yay!) at a national conference for my field of study. The conference days are the same as another important event I must attend. Am I required to go to the conference to present my work? Would it be possible for me to just get my publication without needing to go all the away across America to present it? I don't quite know how to find this answer lol
  17. I sent emails to every single school I applied asking for status update (in a friendly manner of course) 2 weeks ago. From the moment i sent the email to now, I received 9 out of 11 responses. From these 9 emails, 8 included an acceptance notification, and 1 a rejection. So.... I don't think emailing them kills your chances AT ALL
  18. I got accepted into NYU Poly with scholarship and didn't receive any sort of email. I just randomly checked the page during the weekend and my acceptance letter was there... So I would just keep checking the applyyourself page, not your email. Best of luck!
  19. What an awful school... Run away
  20. Oh my god we have the SAME thing going on. It's quite amazing! I was invited to the visit weekend at one school with the same profile. Great great great research topic, awesome advisor, very famous advisor actually. But the school is not ranked as high as i wished it was (comparing with my other acceptances, this school is in the mid thirties, while the others are in the top 15). So I visited the campus two weeks ago in a similar way you'll do next week. I asked millions of questions to make sure i liked the institution, students, professors, etc. questions ranged from: "do you like working/studying here?" to more research/funcing/course-load related. In the end of my visit I was really in love with that school and I might choose them (top 35) over the other schools I got in (top 10). The thing that gets me a little iffy is that this school is not located in my dream city, but oh well, we can't have everything we want right?! Enjoy the visit and pay attention if you can see yourself living and studying there. Take a feel for the overall atmosphere, how friendly they seem to be, and how the other phd students are (afterall they might become your next group of friends). And more than that, ask away! Ask as many questions you can. This type of visit is more for you to get a feel of the area, so make sure to do that. And congrats! Never thought someone would be in the same shoes I am :-)
  21. My top choice is a research done by an assistant professor. He is amazing and has lots of grants so I don't see that being a problem. Assistant professors are in the beginning of their carrers so they might have extra spunk, which means more work for you. But since your research interests match... Go for it
  22. Did you guys see that the new statistics for 2015 were updated? One of my schools dropped from #4 to #6, and the other one raised from #14 to #11... How much attention should I give to these rankings when making my decision? Did your school stay/improved/dropped in the ranking?
