Texas schools
hopefulspeechie16 replied to hopefulspeechie16's topic in Speech-Language Pathology Forum
macefave how is the environment at UT Austin? Are the faculty supportive? Is it heavily research based? -
Hi everyone, I'm currently researching schools to apply to this Fall. I noticed there's quite a bit of options in Texas and just wanted to get some feedback on some of the schools there since I'll be applying from out-of-state. I don't care much for rankings but rather friendliness and support of staff and the programs willingness to look beyond GPA and GRE. Any feedback on the following schools is appreciated: -UT Austin -UT Dallas -U North Texas -Baylor - Our lady of the lake university

Speech Language Pathology

I'm in the same situation as you, going to a college known for grade deflation. Is this something worth explaining in a personal statement? I just don't know how we can prove our case. -

I am in the same situation as you! Just a question for those of you that took USU courses, would it be okay to ask for a LOR from a USU online prof. I don't know how schools would judge those since it's not an in-person interaction. -
Those are great scores. mAY i ask how you prepped for the GRE? and for long? I'll be taking the text next month.

There is a possibility to get academic credit and a paper published. But this full time thing is a bit much especially with commuting costs and the fact that I'm unpaid. The opportunity is a great one though, both for experience and grad apps. I know that more of the sciencey fields like biology and chemistry probably have more paying positions due to the amount invested in those topics of research versus SLP, but looks like most undergrads I know who work at an SLP lab are unpaid maybe it's just my school.

What should I be doing now/prepping now?

Speaking of LORs, how do you recommend asking profs to write LORs for you? Most of my profs are busy with research outside of campus so it's hard to get a hold of them. Would e-mail do? Any suggestions of what i should say? I'm applying this Fall btw -

Has anyone taken research for credit? Is it valued by grad programs? -

How would you define knowing a prof well? I go to a large university, so I only see my SLP profs during class and after class at their office hours. Now that the semester is ending I don't know how to maintain in contact with them for next years application. Any advice? -
Getting into graduate school with a low gpa

I am in a similar situation as you. I do go to a university that's ranked in the top 30 of the world. I'm not sure if grad admissions take a college's ranking into account when assessing GPA? Can anyone answer this? -
ASHA prerqs too? I've heard the grades on those don't count as much as COMD classes. Can someone confirm this?

I'll be a Canadian applicant next year and I'm wondering the same. Which school are you from, if you don't mind sharing? -
Hey pmarie, I noticed you're still completing your undergrad which will likely be my case next year. I just wanted to know if you finished most of the CSD prereqs courses that the schools you got in asked for? A few of my prereqs will be in progress but not complete by the time I apply... Hope that won't be a bad thing.

A little off topic, but onedayslp what's the secret behind those amazing GRE scores? I'm taking the GRE in a few months.
