  1. It's ok... If anything, I guess it means I have an excuse for more daytime naps! As soon as laundry is done, I will take a nap. Oh wow boulder! I applied there too! I guess it's an expensive place to be!
  2. Yep, I've tried silicone earplugs (the good ones that actually don't fall out while sleeping), white noise with headphones, fan noise, melatonin to help sleep... Etc etc. I'm just a really light sleeper unfortunately @piglet33Good advice! I'll give that a try. My neighbor is understanding and tries his best to keep the noise to a minimum.. I'm just easily awoken.
  3. You guys, I'm exhausted already and it's only the second day. I started the day off by running paperwork around campus, then I sent out emails and stuff and got rosters ready for the class I TA for tomorrow... And I'm just so very tired. I've been readjusting to the sound of my upstairs neighbor's footsteps at night, since being back here. He's a nice guy and seriously just has heavy footsteps cause he's a dude. And I'm just an obnoxiously light sleeper. And the building we're in is cheaply built. So we'll see how I sleep tonight. I think it'll get better as the semester goes on. Also so anxious cause I saw a couple Davis acceptances on the board. Praying to hear from them soon.
  4. Brandeis buddy! <3 In the past few years, Brandeis has sent out acceptances in early February. (like around the 7th to 10th range) Best of luck to you and welcome!!
  5. Another UC Davis acceptance ... I wonder if they got the email *just now*. I'm suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuper anxious yet excited too *grips coffee mug closer*
  6. Waiting is so. Hard. Especially when you don't have anyone in the same position as you waiting it out! And yes, I'm working on one! It's going pretty well so far. When I started it last summer, I had to work on it while my advisor was in Africa for the whole summer. So her email access was limited! Since it was only the beginning of the thesis though, it was mostly literature review work I could do on my own.
  7. Hey, you never know. Acceptances don't always go out all at once, not even for Davis (last year, most went out at once, yes, but there was one posting where someone got an acceptance several days after the bulk of them went out). Two years ago, a good friend of mine thought she might not have made the cut, but she awoke one morning to a pleasant surprise: a notification of acceptance days after the bulk of acceptances were sent out. She's now there at Davis as a grad student. It's not over until we get that rejection notice, friend =) We'll hang in there together!
  8. You're so kind to create an account just to reply to my question! First of all: CONGRATULATIONS!! *Shares some of the cookies from earlier in the thread with you* I'll make some fresh cookies for the thread tomorrow ... Second of all: Thank you for answering my question! I sure hope to join you at the accepted kids table!!
  9. Yes, would the person accepted care to share whether it was a personalized email from their POI or more of a mass email? Davis is high on my list! Whoever it was, congratulations! *throws confetti*
  10. *huuuuuggggssssss* I care!!! I'm here for you if you need someone to talk to/shoulder to cry on. *makes you your favorite kind of tea/coffee* Let us know if there's anything we can do. This season isn't over! *vanishes, for now, to take care of school stuff*
  11. First day of the new semester for me... All I'm doing as a Master's student (in her final semester) are thesis credits, but as a TA for the Intro to Soc class, I get to meet my students today! :-D
  12. Heard from my first program today, and it was a rejection. Oh well!

  13. Congrats on UC Irvine and Ohio State though! Fantastic! *throws some confetti and shares some of the cake from before with you* Also, now I really want some ramen thanks to your username ...
  14. I think it's really great that you found such a great fit with Berkeley! I truly hope you get in, and I wish you the best of luck! I bet your statement of purpose was awesome, and that should resonate well with the adcomm. As for how to do your signature, follow these directions: 1. at the top-right corner of your computer screen, you'll see a little bubble with your profile pic/avatar/forum pic and your username right next to that. 2. Click on your username in the top-right corner. 3. Go to "account settings." 4. Under "account settings," there is a tab called "signature." 5. Click that and create your signature 6. Click "save." Voila! Haha @HopefulSocPhD I didn't notice you copied my signature until now because I've rarely been on my pc recently! I think that's awesome, and I'm flattered that you thought my signature layout was that nice!
  15. Still, that's great! Yay! *still offers you cake* I hope so too! I'd love a nugget of good news after that rejection today!
  16. @katastrophe make it rain with those acceptances! I'm on mobile so I can't see your signature, but I'm assuming you got some more acceptances judging from everyone's reactions so CONGRATULATIONS!! *throws confetti and bakes you a cake*
  17. That is such a great thought to keep in mind! Thank you for your support! @raaawrThank you for your support as well! :-)
  18. @goofylemonyou are so sweet... Thank you so much for the comfort and support!! *hugs*
  19. @piglet33tthank you! You're right! And yay beer o'clock! @maryelizabethSociology @passenger47haha nice. For me it's more like I seek comfort from snacks.
  20. @HopefulSocPhDHaha you are so sweet. Thank you for the support and the laugh. @isthisagoodideatthank you for your support, too! The publications aren't published yet, but they're in the works! Sometimes it just comes down to fit. Maybe one of the profs I wanted to work with wasn't taking on any new students *sigh* but still, I'm glad you and others think I am a strong applicant! That makes my day :-) @redhillgirlAwww Thank you!! Seriously, you guys are helping me feel so much better.
  21. *gets notice of Emory rejection* *Calls husband over* Me: Is it too early for a beer??
  22. Your post is just what so many of us needed to hear! Thank you!
  23. Artsy, best of luck! You've got this!! Pink, I feel lucky, too, that only a few of my programs do interviews. However, the interviews for the programs I applied to are less like "sit down one-on-one" and more like "get to know profs and current grad students over delicious dinners, campus tours, and tours of the town."so that's nice, at least! In other news, I go back to my university tomorrow... Which means back to my basement apartment two hours away from my husband (he works at another college). I'm gonna miss him, and the sunlight flooding in from the many windows in his apartment!
  24. In the same boat as you all. Saw three Emory interviews and two Rutgers interviews on the board, but I'm still holding onto hope because I know I'm not rejected until I receive the official rejection notice!! But still ... being in this limbo state is HARD. But CONGRATULATIONS to the new UCSB admits I saw on the board today!
