Fall 2016 Acceptances, Interviews, and Rejections Thread
gingin6789 replied to gingin6789's topic in Sociology Forum
Rutgers interview hit the Results board today. Anyone wanna claim that? Care to share stats, research interests, and/or whether the email was a mass email or personalized from poi/dgs? -
Oh I think that established link will, at best, swing in your favor. it's a cool connection nonetheless, especially considering you're in the UK, if I remember correctly! So that's awesome :-)

Thank you, piglet! Coincidental story: my sister's boyfriend went to Penn State for Kinesiology! I know you're applying there, too! Sis' bf got his bachelor's there, not his PhD, but cool to know you two are taking similar paths ? I hope you get accepted! PS, it's 17 degrees F today. Coldest it's been all winter!

I got two notices on president's day two years ago... One recruitment weekend invite and one funded acceptance. Maybe MLK day will be similar this year to the president's day of 2014 ;-) Also, on another note, the wedding was wonderful! So happy to be married to my husband!! It was a super laid-back ceremony, and it was all so perfect for us ... He goes back to work and I go back to working on building data sets tomorrow... Anyway, I wanted to thank you all for the warm wishes! I love my Internet friends! :-)

Jeez jeez you got blocked? Seriously? I thought your tone sometimes *seemed* harsh in the thread (and noted that it was likely due to me and others being unable to gauge your exact tone over the Internet) but come on, you shouldn't have been blocked from even viewing the thread! Honestly, I'm sorry you got blocked. Second, I think everything in that thread was a misunderstanding on both parties. We thought you were talking about all interview processes, even ones where American applicants were supposed to be interviewed, but you meant Skype interviews... Then we all kinda got snippy and others got downright mean... It's all really stupid to argue and be snippy with each other, and we're better than this. Kamel, you started the fall 2016 applicants thread so you obviously care about sociology and the forum. We're all stressed and we're never our best selves when we're stressed. So I'll take this opportunity to apologize to you, Kamel, if my response post to you in the other thread hurt you at all, because I know you were trying to give your best advice. Take care, all. Edit: in case you're wondering why I posted the person's question when you said you already answered it, it's because they posted their question a bit after you posted that particular answer. And I didn't want it re-answered in that thread so the thread could stay on the topic of acceptances, so I made this thread and reposted the question.

I had a dream I got accepted to UC Davis... Ahhh it was just a dream :'( But it's all good, cause I'm getting married today. On the topic of thread, there will be pink Moscato, champagne, and beer. It'll be the happiest day of my life, so screw dreams and anxiety, especially ones about my dress falling apart!

Not sure about your field, but in sociology, Acceptances sometimes come out in waves. Two years ago, my friend thought she got rejected cause she didn't get accepted when a bunch of other people did... About a week later, she awoke to an acceptance notice! Don't lose hope until you actually get a rejection!

@nevermind, two years ago, I had TONS of admissions dreams. This year I only had one, and I posted about it earlier in the thread. In the dream, I heard back from both of the programs on my list with apps due December 1st. I got a really competitive fellowship from the one program. I said to my fiancé in the dream "see, and this isn't even a dream either!" Then I woke up and chuckled about it between sobs.

Great job to aks and mrb!! Good luck at your interviews!! Also saw some notices for UC Irvine and UCLA today, in addition to more Notre Dame interviews! Great to see some movement!!! -
@Pink Fuzzy Bunny Yes!! Yesterday, my university sent out TWO emails about another fellowship, one on 18th century studies ... each time I saw "FELLOWSHIP" I nearly fell over, only to find it's something that I wouldn't be able to qualify for anyhow ... ah oh well ... today is still another day, one day closer to knowing, right?

My heart nearly jumped out of my chest just now ... Email subject line pops up on my screen, reads: "Paid Research Assistantship" palpitations-palpitations-palpitations Prof's name looks familiar. ... ... Curses!!! It's an email from my one of my current professors notifying students of an RA opportunity through the school. AKA totally NOT an acceptance notification from one of the programs I've applied to. Isn't that funny how that email tricked me? It's just so ... appropriate hahahhahaa *starts crying* I can't handle this, guys!

Hey, all! I thought I would start this thread, since the Acceptances thread has turned into more of a conversation thread. In order to not confuse future and current forum-goers, we can have general conversation here in this thread, and save the 2016 Acceptances thread for news and discussion on Acceptances/Rejections/Interviews/Wait-List listing, etc. Need to vent about how tough the waiting process is for sociology programs? Vent here! Need to ask questions about the application process that you hope other sociology forum users can answer? Ask away! Any other sociology-related discussion is welcome! Also, if you all feel this thread is unnecessary, let me know. I thought this would help keep the forum organized and happy.

Carnegie Mellon rejection: what the.. Apparently, you don't even have to apply in order to be rejected from certain schools.. Oh man! I can't imagine checking an email to find a rejection from a program I hadn't applied to! That's awful! I've been back-reading this thread though, and the funny responses make me feel so much better about the waiting process ... -

sorry, we didn't realize what you meant because you didn't specify that you didn't mean the programs who do interviews for everyone. And I'm sorry to say this, but your posts in this and other threads come across as mean-spirited. I don't think you mean to be mean though. Tone is hard to read over the Internet. I just know that Linda nor myself meant to spark a reply like the one you posted. We took the info we had from you post and tried to formulate an accurate reply. There were parts of your post we understood and misunderstood. It happens, unfortunately. Also, as other posters have said, users in the past have applied to top programs. Every year is different. Plus, not as many people, overall, are posting in this forum this year. Side note: I might open a waiting/general conversation thread, too... -

Yeah, I didn't think the post about international applicants only interviewing sounded accurate either, since many native English speaking applicants interview, too... Wow, the Emory admissions committee is meeting soon! How exciting! I sure hope I earn an interview spot. Best wishes to all other Emory applicants as well! -

Hmmm that is very recent! Well, hopefully someone who has received notice of an interview will let us know more info about it! If the deadline was January 4th in past years, then it is possible, as interviews have been sent out around this time in years past for Notre Dame. -

@KLPLANTER woah, when was ND's deadline? It looks like two people have posted that they've been notified of interviews on the results page. Also, here http://thegradcafe.com/survey/index.php In the search bar, type "Notre Dame (sociology)" to find Notre Dame sociology results, specifically. -
*raises glass of invisible wine with you both* Sorry to hear about the rejection, Artsy! I'm so happy to hear about your four interviews though! *throws confetti*

About class registration -- I waited until after the holidays were over to email my professor to authorize me for thesis credits this semester. And that's all I'm doing this semester -- no classes, just thesis. Well, she gave me the info on January 4th, but I guess I waited until the 5th to register. Lo and behold, we had to register by January 4th or else we would get a $100 late registration fee. I had NO idea about this fee, otherwise I would've registered as soon as my prof gave me the override. *headdesk* I seriously thought we had until the beginning of the semester (January 25th) to register! 100 freaking dollars?? My school's not exactly hurting for money. Why $100?! It was on the website, but there were no emails or anything else sent out notifying us of this.
-
Oh no!! Did she email you back? Maybe she'll reschedule! You are human, remember, so don't beat yourself up too badly. I'm sure it's not the worst thing they've seen!

Interview from Notre Dame sighted. Anyone wanna claim that? That makes UVA, Rice, and Notre Dame so far, in terms of any kind of movement for sociology. Probably will be more next week. -
I know current grad students in the program Facebook search at least, once they know who is being considered. When I went on a recruitment visit two years ago, the current grad students in the program said they "so looked for us on Facebook" lol. But my nickname is on fb, and it's all private, so... They'd only be able to see my profile pic anyway. I have my real name and academic stuff on my LinkedIn!

Fall 2016 Acceptances, Interviews, and Rejections Thread
gingin6789 replied to gingin6789's topic in Sociology Forum
Sorry, Max... It kinda got off topic. I figured since one interview rolled in, more would start last week, but this turned more into a waiting thread for sociology applicants. So, I can always make another thread when the time comes. Technically, I guess this thread can be deleted by a mod for being off topic. If so, that's ok, we can always make another one. Sorry :-(
