  1. I'm not sure about the other 2 but Rutgers has their admissions meeting on Feb 28: https://www.google.com/calendar/embed?src=rutgers.cs@gmail.com&gsessionid=OK I'm guessing results would go out some time after that.

  3. From what I've been reading, it hasn't passed yet and doesn't seem likely to pass in its current form, given the opposition it's faced from public employees. I'm not sure how it'll affect UW-Madison, but it bears watching for sure.
  4. That's fine to feel that way - I guess it means that deep down you don't think that this is the place that you really want to be. I'd encourage you to attend the interview and get a feel for the place, especially since you don't have an admit as yet. Who knows? Maybe after you see the place in-person, and talk with students and profs you'll feel better about that program.
  5. Ahh I see. Thanks.

  8. Ok great. Where I'm from, I don't see around 25% of salary due to taxes so I was a little surprised at the figure - 300 per month from 30K = ~12%.
  9. I found out unofficially via a skype talk with a POI. The next day I got the email saying I had been recommended for admission - I was driving at the time and I got the notification by SMS on my phone. An hour later I got my second admit which I happened to notice just after I finished forwarding my first admit email to family.
  10. Congrats on your acceptance! We got accepted at the same place.

  11. Forgive my ignorance here, as a non-American, but is that $300 per month the total amount of taxes you pay, or do you have to pay additional taxes when you file your tax returns?
  12. Got 2 funded admits by email today. Pretty. Good. Day!

  14. It's definitely a great feeling. I slept soundly last night for sure. :)

  15. Go ahead with accepting the interviews next week at school B. You won't know for sure if you'll be accepted at school A in time to make a decision on where you'd be attending. If you do get an offer from school A before the weekend and you know that you won't be going to school B, then perhaps you could let them know then and they could re-route the funds to another applicant. You'd have to explain the situation that you just got into your top choice and you'd rather them have the ability to interview someone else if they desire. You really don't want to cut off school B at this point and end up not getting into school A. Congrats on your success so far and best of luck in getting into school A! PS. You're not a bad person. This is a business decision and you have to do what's best for you at this time, even though it might slightly inconvenience school B.
  16. Agreed with Strangefox. It's bad form. If you mentioned the prof in your SoP then he or she would likely see it and as Strangefox says, you run the risk of annoying them at this time.
  17. Haha thanks. I think I'd have to go in hiding if I didn't get in anywhere after doling out advice on here.
  18. I'm hoping to travel to an open house for next month. Unfortunately they said they usually only invite admitted applicants from the US and Canada due to the cost of international travel, but I'm not too far away and the flight wouldn't be much more than what some people would have to pay if they were travelling from some places in the US, so I'm trying to see if they'll cover the amount up to what they'd pay for a domestic applicant and I'd pay the rest. I definitely want to visit first - I don't want to go there sight unseen in the Fall. Plus you get all kinds of valuable information from current students.
  19. And it's now 730. I'm guessing it's just going to keep getting higher until maybe early March - the record last year was from early March, so perhaps that's the busiest time on this site.
  20. This is a bit scary. I may have to disappear and reappear with a different account once I get into grad school Although, I don't think I've posted anything embarrassing here, perhaps except all the time I spend in the Keep a Word, Drop a Word threads

  22. Thanks. I'm not sure if the purpose was to notify me or if it was as a final verification just to make sure that our interests were aligned and that I was interested in attending. He discussed his research interests and I did mine as well and where they overlapped, and he gauged my interest in attending UMich. It was only at the end that he said that he was confident that I'd be getting an offer later this week. In any case, he said that they were looking over applications now, so I'm guessing most offers should go out later this week or next. I also get the impression that they do admit people without interviews, since there seem to be a few admits on the results board from this year and last that don't mention interviews.
  23. I think I'm in - just waiting for the official offer. The POI I talked to said that he was confident that I'd get an offer and that I should look out for it later this week.
  24. I think I might have found myself in this same situation and I am totally feeling the urge to just go ahead and accept when I see the official offer. I still think its best to at least wait a while and think hard and long about it, cause you're committing yourself to 5 years, but the temptation to just accept is pretty hard to resist.
