  1. I haven't seen mentions of interviews on the results page for Portland, so I'm going to assume the answer is no. We get answers back in late March according to emails. Have you received any emails from Syracuse about the interview? They said to expect it sometime this week.
  2. They gave me 15 minutes to answer a short writing prompt a little before the interview itself.
  3. I had an interview with Chapman last week, but I haven't heard a word from other CA schools I've applied to. I see people saying they received invitations for interviews with CSULB and CSUSM, but I haven't received any emails from them. Does anyone know if the interviews are given in batches? Still waiting for an email for an interview from Syracuse. I hope I get it this week since they sent me one last week saying they will invite people for a phone interview.
  4. How did you respond to those other applications when they asked you for your grades? I'm just curious, but how did your undergrad program rank or grade you then?
  5. I applied for CSULB, CSUSM, Chapman, and Redlands. I was interviewed by Chapman last Friday and I haven't received any emails from the other CA schools. @alicecdstudent Do you know if CSULB sends out interviews all at once or by batches? Do you need to be interviewed to necessarily get into the program?
  6. I checked my email when I saw your post and yes! I got the same email as well! I don't think they have interviews since I didn't see them mention interviews on the department website and the results page from previous cycles never mentioned them.
  7. I got the same email as well. Do you have any additional suggestions on how to prepare for their phone interview? How long is the interview and how many questions did they ask you?
  8. Chapman sent me an invitation for an interview (this Friday). Does anyone know if it's a skype or personal interview?
  9. Hey, have there been any application portals opened for Syracuse? I've been getting impatient on the responses back from my schools, but Portland State and Loyola have both sent me emails to inform me when I should be getting answers back. Wondering when Syracuse will respond back since I submitted to them back in December. Portland State: End of March Loyola: March 31
  10. I feel this so much. But yeah, lol. Portland State did something very similar and told me "be sure to check your status in mid March!". Thanks for getting my anxiety up!
  11. Got anxious when Portland State send me an email, only to find out the email was to notify me that I should get an answer in mid March. I feel like I will have at least one school that answers in February, but I'm nervous if I get into any programs.
  12. What if it's the opposite? For me, my quantitative score is higher than my verbal score by a small margin. I have a 155 for quantitative (60th percentile) and 151 for verbal (50th percentile). Would it matter to the schools?
  13. Has anyone received any notifications from Syracuse to check on their application status? I got an email awhile back to confirm that I have submitted their supplemental application and my csdcas status says verified, so I was wondering if there is a way to check on your application status. Was I supposed to receive something by now?
  14. CSULB, Redlands, Chapman, CSUSM, Portland State, UNCO, Loyola Maryland, Radford, Syracuse, Michigan State This is my first round. Try to contact to your recommenders early so they can finish their letter of recs on time. Starting on your SOP early is important too since you will definitely go through many drafts before submitting your final version. Retake the GRE if you have the time to and you feel like your numbers aren't strong enough. Probably CSULB since their acceptance rate is so low from experience of talking to grad students there. I can't say I have any since all the schools I have applied for have programs I'm interested in, but I know I want to get into a program out of state. Yes, because I want to become a certified SLP and be able to have wider options on where to work. According to ASHA it's Syracuse and Portland State, but that leads to the next question... I'm hoping its accurate, but I do question when the numbers were updated and how they acquired those numbers. So I have no idea how accurate it is in general. Can't answer that one. Curry and lasagna. Do schools always offer interviews before you get accepted? Or do some accept you right away?
  15. I don't know about west coast schools in general, but I do know that Cal States are hard to get into because a lot of them seem to favor their undergrads? That's what people have told me anyway. I know for sure CSULB favors their undergrad since over 90% of their grad students are from their undergrad program.
  16. Hi, I have a quick question about updating transcripts. I have recently sent a new transcript with my updated Fall 2015 grades to all the schools I am applying for. Recently, I got an emailing from my undergraduate school stating that my unofficial transcript will include the notation of my degree and that I will be notified in 3-4 weeks on my diploma. My school has an option to send transcripts 30 days after the conferred date. Should I choose that option? Would it be ok even if my schools' deadlines will pass?
  17. Thank you for the number! I contacted them and it looks they received everything besides my transcripts, which I recently sent. Hopefully it will reach them in a few days.
  18. I'm only applying to one school in the NY/NJ area because I was told how competitive it is. There are a few good programs in my home state, but alas, it is just as competitive, if not more since they favor their own undergraduates. Does NY/NJ school have a similar reputation? I already submitted my applications, so I'm just sitting here doing the waiting game while continuing to work on my volunteer hours. Coping mechanisms? When I'm not at work or volunteering, I like to write or play video games.
  19. I only received notifications that the applications have been submitted. I just recently updated my application with my Fall 2015 grades. How do I update to CSDCAS that I recently completed my undergraduate degree? I already went back to add in my Fall 2015 grades, but I can't go back to change the date of when I finished my program. What should I do?
  20. I sent majority of my materials on the 1st-2nd week of December. According to the status, all of the applications have been verified, but I didn't receive any emails saying they were verified. So are they verified? Screenshot of Program Status
  21. Hi! I submitted my application for CSU San Marcos last week and was sent an email for confirmation. However, I checked my application status a week afterward on the school website and it said that I was missing material for my letters of rec, writing sample, pre-rec list, and transcript. This struck me odd because I definitely attached the material they requested when I completed the application and the website required me to verify the whole application as well. I already requested my transcript and letters of rec to be resent, but where would I resubmit my writing sample and pre-rec list? I searched through the school website for information, but it simply said to submit those along with the online application. I couldn't find an email to send to them except for the generic email of el @ csusm.edu. I would really appreciate if you guys can respond back!
  22. I personally think it would be a good idea for the school to have both programs because undergrad may be able to access some of the things grad schools may offer. My school for example had an on-campus clinic that allowed the undergraduates to observe some of the sessions for an assignment. We had a program that prepared undergraduates to become SLPAs by working at the on-campus site that is typically only available for grad students. This probably varies by the program, so you likely want to do your research on each program you may be interested in or talk to the undergraduates there and see what their like about the program. However, you may want to ask your daughter if she wants to attend the same program for all 6 years. She may want to do that now, but she might change her mind the closer she is to finishing her Bachelor's degree. I have recently finished my undergraduate program and many of the students I've talk to are applying to other schools because it's very hard to get into our graduate program (they are notorious for favoring their undergrads, but still difficult to get in). Changing programs isn't so bad either since you get exposed to different people with different experience. If your daughter knows for sure that she wants to stay in the same place for all 6 years, then I recommend researching schools that have an SLP acceleration program. My school wasn't an accelerated program, so I don't have any experience of programs like that. No. Not really. As long as she graduates and does her CFY along with passing the Praxis exam for her CCC, then it really doesn't mean much. Well, I didn't know about the field as a high schooler. I can't say there is anything I would want to change either because I just happened to apply and be accepted into a school that had a good SLP program, despite not knowing that it would someday become my dream career. I took enough AP courses to earn a good chunk of my General Ed credit in college, so I am pretty satisfied on how I did for high school. Tell your daughter to make sure she has a high gpa and to be active in clubs or volunteering activities related to speech pathology. Shadowing SLPs at different settings could be a great place to start and let her be exposed to working with professionals. As I said before, my undergrad program had a class that prepared you to become a certified SLPA in the state. The requirements to become a SLPA varies by the state, but it wouldn't hurt for her to try to go for something similar if the state offers it. Another option is that maybe she can look into ABA training since I'm sure it looks good on a resume for work experience and it relates to the career. Doing research is another bonus that some graduate schools look for, especially the ones that place emphasis on research. Your daughter should also try to keep in touch with her professors in the program so that they can write letters of recommendation for her in the future.
  23. How do I know when my application is processed?
  24. Is there a way to check your CSDCAS gpa? I opened the pdf file under managing programs, but I can't seem to find it on the document. My transcript was uploaded maybe a week ago? So it should be there.
