Thanks for all the replies. I have sent her an email asking if the application fee will also act as a security deposit if I sign the lease. Let's see how she responds.

One of the leasing agents I am in contact with just asked me to submit a non-refundable fee of 240 dollars with my application. Considering that all other applications I have filled had a fee of $60 max, I am compelled to ask, am I being hustled? I sure as hell don't want to spend that much money just to get my application in. What do you guys think?

Alrighty roo! I asked because I was going through the transcripts some students from India had shared of their own visa interviews (from memory) and got the impression that VOs over there really grill them on finances and backlogs (F grades). Thanks for all your help, much appreciated!

By the way another question: I recently sold some valuables and transferred about 30K USD into my account. Will that potentially raise eyebrows? I do have all the sales receipts with me.

My I-20 amount is 44K USD. I maintain a current account with a balance of ~55K. Will these funds be enough for the visa interview or should I have to add more sponsors? Thanks!

Send them an email asking whether or not your scores will be added to your application file if you take the test. Other than that I would suggest going through the faculty profile pages and contacting those whose research areas align with your interests. If you have published any papers or attended conferences include them in your resume and/or SoP. All the best!

When I eat watermelon I sprinkle some salt over it. I think it tastes much better that way. Also, I have been meaning to try something that Rhett and Link came up with on their show; the Big Mac n Cheese. That's right, it's a Big Mac with added layers of KRAFT mac 'n cheese inside. I know most Americans find the idea of eating french fries with mayonnaise not very appetizing, but in the culture where I come from garlic mayo is probably as popular a condiment as tomato ketchup and we eat it with everything from french fries to fried chicken and even rice. What are some unusual food combinations you like?

Born in Pakistan. Then traveled to and lived in Saudi Arabia from age 4 to 18. Went back to Pakistan for my undergrad. Now back in Saudi and traveling to the US in 2 months. -

Mine has to be the one from Inglourious Basterds where Shoshanna and Fredrick Zoller kill each other in the screening room: The way the whole scene plays in perfect sync with the track is absolutely phenomenal, especially at the moment when Shoshanna is shot. At my university they announce the person's name and their field. So in my case it was "Engineer <my name>". GPA, thankfully, was not mentioned.

I still haven't heard back from two of the schools I applied to. They said they would have decisions out by the third week of April. Should I consider myself rejected?
