I was looking at pictures of my apartment and just spent the last 10 minutes trying to figure out what that weird, long, rectangular contraption on one of the bedroom walls was. Turns out it's a heater. I hope I won't have many of these noob moments in the US. I would be so embarrassed.

Here in Saudi insurance companies are actually losing money and are currently being subsidized by the government (it's a tax-free country by the way). Even the most "premium" all-inclusive plans (health, vision and dental plus international coverage and repatriation of remains) costs about $600/yr. But health insurance is relatively new here so it remains to be seen what path it takes further down the road.
