  1. For the ladies, quoting Leslie Winkle from TBBT: "Come for the breasts, stay for the brains."
  2. ^ http://themetapicture.com/the-kraken-has-learned-to-release-itself/
  3. likemythesis, overworkedta, m-ttl: Thanks for your input. I think I will go for it. The place is very nice and there's even an outdoor pool.
  4. I am an international student and will most probably be joining Syracuse in the fall. I have located a nice one bedroom apartment in what appears to be a safe neighborhood (gathering from online reviews) with a monthly rent of ~$650, all utilities included. There are cheaper options available for 450-500 dollars but they are in the shady parts of town with a high crime rate. I just want to live in a safe, quiet place away from noisy undergrads. So have I found myself a good deal or should I keep looking?
  5. Compared to everyone here my admits are absolutely puny in comparison. Nonetheless I would like to know your ideas about Syracuse and UT Arlington please.
  6. I have had a REALLY bad day today. Got two back-to-back rejects from SDSU and NCSU. Then received an email from Syracuse regarding my request for financial assistance. Short and brutal one liner saying all awards are merit-based and you do not qualify. I am literally dreading the ASU decision now because if it turns out to be a reject, I will have no other option left but Syracuse. I'm certain UCinn and UCI are gonna dish out rejects and I don't care about OKSU and South Carolina anyway. Down in the dumps right now.
  7. I was asking about the course. Where I am going the typical no. of students admitted to the program each year is about 50-60. So I was wondering that would be just like my undergrad with a low faculty-to-student ratio. But I am going to do what Kaitri suggested and email my POI about it. Thanks to everyone who replied.
  8. Not a rejection quote but still funny. Someone who got into GATech for Aero: No Funding....But I did just save a bunch of money on my car insurance by switching to Geico
  9. From what I have found out they are focusing heavily on the Middle Eastern and South Asian regions. Hult reportedly paid gmatclub to publish favorable reviews on their website. India is home to a lot of good-for-nothing consultancy firms which "guide" grad-school aspirants and are on the payroll of lesser known schools and universities in the US and Europe. Graduating students are very unhappy with their experiences: http://www.hultmbareview.com/ http://www.wallstreetoasis.com/forums/should-i-go-to-hult-business-school
  10. So have you heard about Hult Business School? Apparently it's "the world's most international business school" according to their website (http://www.hult.edu). Anyway when I took the GRE I signed up for their Search Service which lets schools find you based on your scores. That did not turn out to be a smart thing to do as my inbox now keeps buzzing with mails from places I have not even heard of. But one of those schools really stood out today as I got contacted on my home phone by one of their reps asking me if I would be interested in their MBA program. I politely refused saying that I am looking for an MS in Aerospace. Honestly I don't know why they even bothered calling when I clearly selected Aero as my intended program at the time I took the test. Have any of you been contacted by Hult in this manner as well? Prior to getting the phone call today I have received, on average, one email every two weeks from them for the past four months.
  11. Heard back last night from the Financial Aid office that my case has been forwarded to the department. Hoping for a favorable decision now.
  12. I have already sent an email to the Financial Aid office and awaiting their response. Can I contact the graduate advisor in this regard?
  13. I was just wondering about the population of a typical Master's-level class size. I know it depends on a lot of variables but would appreciate a ball-park figure. I personally believe any number above 25 would be too large.
  14. I read through the whole thread (yes I am that bored). Can't help but feel sorry for Mr. Shy Guy by the end. Aah, well...
  15. I got accepted at Syracuse for MS Aero a few weeks ago. However, I have not been offered any funding or TA/RA positions in the admission notification email. Someone I know was able to secure a 30% tuition-waiver just by sending an email to the grad office acting on which they reviewed his file again and offered a scholarship. I tried doing that too but got an email linking to the general Financial Aids web-page. Any ideas how I can ask again without sounding too needy or leech-y? This is my only admit as of now and I sure don't want it turning into a reject. I am an international student.
  16. Potential employers won't look at it in a favorable light. I am of the opinion that one shouldn't mention their GPA in the resume, even if it is a perfect four. Try to get across the message that you are worth much more than mere numbers on a piece of paper.
  17. I got accpeted for MS Aero and most probably will be attending if I don't get into ASU or UCI. Being an international student my biggest concern is housing. I do not want to share an apartment. How much should I pay for a 1BR, all-utilities-included apartment and what would be the best place to stay? Thanks.
  18. +1 on smoking and drugs. Me neither.
  19. Aero applicant here. My application went under review more than a month ago. No updates yet.
  20. Originally from Pakistan but been living in Saudi Arabia since I was four.
  21. A 321 GRE is not bad at all. It is generally advised to retake the test if you are certain that you will be able to raise your score by at least 7 points. I do not know anything about Clinical Psychology, but, generally speaking, your GRE and GPA scores combined with a killer SOP and decent recommendations can certainly land you a place in top tier programs.
  22. Inspired by the "Popular Stuff You Hate" thread. For me, I have never: 1) Been to the cinema 2) Watched Star Wars 3) Had a massage 4) Eaten ramen noodles 5) Been to a concert 6) Drank Gatorade 7) Been to the gym
  23. 2.7-2.9 in NUST, Pakistan.
  24. I traveled solo for the first time when I went to Pakistan for my undergrad. That was my first experience living alone as well. The first few months were absolute hell. Although I am Pakistani but have been living in Saudi Arabia since I was four. So getting adjusted to the desi lifestyle was hard. And although they are some of the most hospitable hosts you will ever come across, Pakistanis do have a tendency to sometimes overlook or ignore your personal space, resulting in an introverted person like myself further shying away from making friends in a new place. Similar to hazing in the United States, we have what is called 'ragging' in our country. New students are made to do crazy/stupid stuff like drinking 'cocktails' (a vile concoction of snack-edibles like samosas and chutney mixed with soda), chat up girls (Pakistan is still a very conservative country) and do awkward pole dances for seniors. Getting through that phase was pretty tough. But when all of that was behind me, I really started to enjoy living alone. Pakistani parents tend to be very protective of their children. And while their good intentions can not be questioned, they often result in the children developing an entitled attitude in life where they expect each and every single one of their needs to be taken care of by someone else. Most of the guys don't even know how to cook a simple meal or do their laundry well in their twenties. So I was very lucky to have been put into a position where I was able to operate by myself and get to experience everything first-hand in life. While I did not do well in my studies during the four years I spent in Pakistan (too long a story to explain), it definitely helped me in becoming a more independent person. I hope all of the skills acquired during that time will help me when I travel to the United States this fall for grad school. Cheers and apologies for the long post.
  25. 2.67/4 here from Pakistan's best Engineering university (ranked in top 500 world universities by QS Rankings). So far have been admitted into Syracuse for MS Aero. I believe I got in because my final year project (and a conference paper based on it) align perfectly with the research interests of one of the faculty members.
