    SOP swap

    3 days till swapping time.

  3. Research proposals are eating my brain.

  4. I've been told with the UC system fellowships are often tied to GRE scores and that most grad students are funded through TA-ships which you may or may not have to fight for. I would contact the departments in the UC system that you're thinking about applying to and ask about funding. I would also ask grad students in those departments about funding.
  5. Drop them a line. You've got nothing to lose.
  6. I'm in a similar situation 165v/148q. I'm not retaking I dont have the time or money. I also don't think I could increase my Q score if a gun was put to my head.
  7. This is my second round of Phd apps after dropping out of an MA program almost a decade ago. I'm applying to UWashSL, UChicago, UCSB and UCDavis. This round I'm putting in a lot more thought and sweat into my applications.
  8. Give it a go. I'm over 30 with a patchy past and I'm throwing some applications out there. What is there to lose?
  9. Neuroanthro, wtf? I'm out of the loop. Other than neuroanthro, what other emerging trends are folks following?
  10. "Top" programs don't mean much if your interests don't match.
  11. 165v/148q I can live with it plus I don't have a choice at this point in the game. Time to focus on grants and apps.
  12. nope. but i imagine to get into those programs you're going to need a stellar application that is more than just good numbers. i'm proposing UWO because they offer a program in critique and theory. however, i have heard the ucsc's history of consciousness program is not what it use to be and was told by a recent graduate not to bother applying. also, ucdavis has critical theory designation for a number of their phd programs and depending on what type of critical theory you're interested in it might be a place worth applying to. i'm applying there because im interested in wertkritik.
  13. The research I plan on doing in the future emerges out of my past research and experience.
  14. The theory and criticism program at the University of Western Ontario might interest you.
  15. I just noticed I need an SOP and a statement of achievements/contributions for UCSB. One more essay to add to the list.
  16. Word. I stash my spare coin under my mattress.

      Nice job on that verbal!

  18. I don't think it would hurt to send those scores in. I don't necessarily think they will help either. I wouldn't retake the GRE and would instead put the time and effort into other aspects of your application.
  19. I wouldn't retake it if your doing cultural unless the rest of your application looks like shit.
  20. I'd try to apply to a few more program or even one more. 2 isn't a lot when the competition is so fierce. I'm applying to 4 min and probably 6 max.
