  1. I have heard from CSUSM-Interview scheduled for March 5th Loma Linda University - Interviewed on Feb 12th and just heard yesterday night I am on their alternate list (waitlist) Claps* for speedy notification! SDSU- Got an email 30 minutes ago saying I am on their waitlist Long Beach--I did NOT apply here but a friend of mine already interviewed from them...if that helps anyone out. Chapman--I did NOT apply here but another friend of mine already interviewed with them as well. Glad I applied to other states as well, because those are my 2 real acceptances ! Good luck everyone hope good news is traveling to your inboxes!
  2. I think they use our statement of purpose to try to get to know us. And then I think for the interview they were more focused on how we interact with strangers when thrown into a situation where we need to work together. My interviewers also gave us time to give a little intro about ourselves or ask questions so those were other areas they took notes on. I think we'll hear by email but I do not know for certain, it should be happening pretty soon though I'd think. Good luck to everyone
  3. Being passionate about the field can override any differences of background you have in your former degree. I think a lot of programs care more about why you are interested and what you have done to show them you know why you are pursuing it. In a lot of ways someone coming from a different background has a unique ability to explain why they want to do this and are sometimes more able to express their passion for the field because they know how amazing it is compared to whatever background they are moving away from. Good luck!
  4. I would imagine unless the school is doing "rolling" interviews that it would be safe to assume that you will unfortunately not be offered admissions. I do not know for certain but I think most schools that interview use that interview to select their cohort. Good luck with your other applications!
  5. I just hate guessing, I feel like it takes more time than just doing them all at once...It said the form should be mailed by tomorrow so not too much of a wait
  6. I tried to be productive and finish my taxes and FASFA only to realize I hadn't been sent my T something form that I needed to finish it :/ So ironic when I actually try to get things done I have to wait hahaaha. It's like they want me to procrastinate! Same with the scholarship stuff I'm getting organized to start applying to a bunch but if I don't hear back from them it's all up in the air how much each school will actually cost. Filling out new job applications right now too, so much for a little travel break before grad school lol.
  7. Great information thank you! A lot of programs/schools in the west are not as generous with funding (for in or out of state) so this is great to hear! It will help other applicants make smart decisions on where to potentially apply . That assistantship information is really great i'm going to ask one of my acceptances what the assistantship covers now!
  8. Sorry to bump this, but I felt like it might help people out now that acceptances are being sent. To those fortunate enough to have choices or just wanting to know what is ahead first hand reviews would be really helpful at this time. I am personally interested in: Northern Arizona University, Fresno state, University of Nebraska at Lincoln, University of Kansas--Lawrence, and Loma Linda University. Things like teaching style, closeness of students and school/life balance would be great to know from former students. Feel free to post about your experience at any University you loved and want to recommend people attend or vice versa.
  9. OMG that would be heaven full funding?? Other fields are living that grad school dream ahha. You'd think with our program being so competitive and small we'd have a little more to go around but i've been told our program is also very expensive to run. True I'll hold off for now. And very true they're still in the bustle of going through applications. I know I was reminded today how amazing our job prospects are and that all current SLPs are constantly bombarded with job offers, feels good knowing after grad school we will be able to afford rent haha.
  10. @cway I applied to FT regular track as well! Does anyone know what their teaching style is? I know that's a weird question but I just interviewed somewhere that had a different teaching style so now i'm interested how they compare.
  11. Yes, and Jan 22nd via email
  12. YES, the exact same thing happened to me. I responded to the recall asking so does this mean I am not accepted and she told me "congratulations you have been accepted sorry for the confusion" I think there was some issues with the email being sent incomplete or something? I got like 6 though too, I would also double check but I think you're in!!! Congrats!
  13. They sent me an email I actually haven't logged on online yet, so I'll have to double check and see if that is updated yet...Gotta go dig up all my login info!
  14. I'm curious too, I just got my second acceptance. My first acceptance offered me in state tuition, an assistantship etc. What's the most polite/appropriate way to ask? Because that will have a basis on my decision. Hope everyone gets funding that would be great wouldn't it??
  15. NAU just sent out some acceptances for anyone else who applied there to go check
  16. I feel like my application was well rounded, but I definitely did not have a 4.0! So while my cumulative GRE scores were slightly above their 305 average, my GPA was slightly below their 3.8 average listed on their website. If you are confident they know why you want to go to their program specifically, I think they still look at the overall application so don't lose hope quite yet. As far as I can tell they care the most about whether a student is a good fit for their program and knows why they applied there. At least in regards to my own personal application and communication that has been my conclusion.
  17. Good advice about the cohort and I won't I am pretty darn social! And I guess I'm already leaning towards a program that really emphasizes work/school/life balance so this is just another sign that I should go there ?! Beyond seeing family here and there it is more about having a short break so I'm happy to hear those still happen in grad school ?. Thank you for the details.
  18. Thanks for the responses!
  19. So I realize that of course like every question on here "every school is different" but in general what is a typical course load in graduate school? I know in my undergrad minimum full time was 12 units (semester system). Also as I am strongly considering attending a grad school out of my state do Grad programs have the same breaks as undergrad programs? A month off in December and typically a month or a few weeks off between Spring and Summer coursework? I'd like to visit home during those times if they have them...
  20. I wouldn't worry just yet, we heard in the later part of January and both received "early" acceptance offers. The school has rolling admissions so probably let some students know earlier, that being said i'm sure nobody will be declining before hearing back from other programs (sometime in the spring) so could be a bit of a waiting game, I have no insight on how the rest of their offers will proceed. Good luck to you!!
  21. I know I saw someone posted somewhere how much less stress this program was for them, and considering I was told the majority of students have plenty of time for part time jobs the bonus points are adding up fast! Yeah I was disappointed in the apartment prices I come from an expensive area so was hoping rent would be cheaper in Dallas but it is more haha. Also anywhere I can find that is cheaper doesn't seem particularly safe or clean, which are necessary!
  22. Me too! They have such a great program, i'm strongly considering accepting! I'm just trying to figure out how much the tuition will be/how much aid I can get to afford it :D. Because rent there is not looking cheap haha. Congrats!
  23. I got my first acceptance recently so in my case it worked I'm in ? obviously won't hear back from other schools until March but thought I'd leave a positive perspective on it!
  24. I agree with other posters that it really depends on the school. I came from a more humanities, language based program in my undergrad with a major in Journalism and Media studies. So I lean with you towards it being more creative/interesting however my uncle who is a Professor in another science field gave me good advice that the people reading my letter of recommendation are going to be scientists. The majority of Professors at the university level are there b/c they are researchers. He pointed out that that audience is going to want a professional sounding letter without any "fluff" or lightness of tone. They are the kind of people that just want the facts and get almost annoyed with anything too extra. Every program is different and I would say if you can make a cohesive well written paper with a little extra something go for it BUT make sure that the program you are applying to will appreciate it and it won't turn them off. I know the Professors in my post-bacc program were a little on the serious side and would not appreciate a super creative paper. Each program has it's own personality so I suppose cateur each letter to that school's personality. Picture the teachers you yourself have had and maybe even ask one of them what the admissions committee prefers. They are usually on them at some point!
  25. Hello my resume is 2 pages I was told by a college counselor that length is fairly standard and appropriate for me (a post-bacc student with a few years of experience of work after a BA degree) Considering this major wants us to set ourselves apart I kept all volunteer and academic programs since beginning college since it shows a pattern of involvement long before I decided to pursue this degree. Same with my employment history I wanted to show them that I have been employed x amount of years and received x grades during that time...If it is something you can trim and is totally irrelevant feel free to do so to make some room. However it is still okay if it is two pages if that helps anyone struggling to shave their information down!
