Just a few hours ago, so if you just accepted might take a little while for them to assign one. I accepted last week so still pretty quick, there is no rush to register though they said, which is nice.

Did you guys get your advising emails? It's getting real! If so who is your academic advisor?
-
Ugh what a bummer! Let us (UTD bound) know if any of you decide to attend/they let you know before you've accepted another slot. It is definitely late if you have multiple offers to consider/another program with an April 15th deadline!
-
I would email them explaining they're your top choice (if that's true) and say your other school has an April 15th deadline can they shed any light or let you know so you can make your decision with all the facts. Utd doesn't have a deadline for accepted students so unless they are considerate and let them know early it is hard to predict I imagine ?

Getting A Master's Degree in a Related Field

I think applying to another graduate program would do the opposite of what you want. It wouldn't help, I don't think, and could potentially paint you as not knowing what you want to do which would be detrimental to your application. Plus as other posters said it is a waste of your money. I agree with what others are saying in focusing on the GRE and applying to more schools. Another tip is to go visit in person if you can and give a face to your future applications. Good luck!!! -
I know i'm browsing apartments online and it is so difficult to sift through them. They will look great then I check reviews and they are unsafe or dirty or super far away etc...It's going to be a long hunt! And I know there are going to be a few weeks where we are all wandering around the city solo b/c we don't know anyone! We should have a meetup once everyone moves in haha. Try to find some Dallas fun to break the ice.

Grad schools and location
CBG321 replied to hopefulspeechie16's topic in Speech-Language Pathology Forum
Southern California would be the perfect weather...northern California would vary a bit more but still probably the most temperate year round. Cold at times sure but Washington being further north is colder anyway. What school in CA? -
I finally accepted UTD! Whoo hooo decision finally made, what a relief to now focus on apartments and...moving across the country .
-
Did you pick your school yet? I think it's going to be Dallas, just so many class choices and more things to do.
-
Thank you for the information! Love the last bit about the rate ceiling!
-
Does anyone know how common group projects/individual projects and presentations are for UTD? Every class, almost never? Has anyone found this information? Thanks!

I wanted to let those of you waiting to hear know that I literally just sent NAU an email declining their offer. It was hard to decline since it looks like a really great school in a great location but I hope my decision helps to bump someone up off the waitlist...or however they are doing things over there. If anyone does go there, take advantage of the clinical opportunity in a native american village, looks like such an amazing opportunity! Best of luck to everyone! -

I am still struggling to decide, today I am going to write down each unique class I can take at each program. Then if there are more than one class that I would be really disappointed to miss out on i'm going to strongly consider that. I'm using the price difference to motivate myself to fill out scholarship applications and hope for the best with FASFA...still waiting to hear back from them. If I get a school specific scholarship it will be much harder to turn down but if I don't I can rest easy and decide based on class opportunities. I was trying to base my decision on location since they are both fantastic programs but they came in even for different reasons so back to the drawing board! I'm going to feel badly saying no since both schools have so much to offer but i'm trying to remember that other students out there will benefit from my decision. -
I have not asked this/heard anything about this but I'd love to know. Even if it was just one semester that would save me a TON of money. Since there isn't really a schedule does anyone know that we'd be done with classes by the last 2 semesters like a "traditional" program or is it just dependent on how many classes you chose to take after the required amount.
-
Probably a really dumb question but do we pay for clinical as well? I know we pay by units for classes but how does the clinical component work?

Has anyone gotten this confirmed 100% with the department because awhile ago I was given the estimate of 44K. Now that I think of it i'm not sure if that was without in-state pricing but i'm just worried there are some hidden fees that they included in that estimate. I would be really excited if the cost came closer to 35K bc that's a savings of about 10K I wasn't anticipating! I've bombarded the department with too many emails already so am hesitant to send yet another one but if anyone had that information concrete that would be so great. Thank you for the estimate Kanga I hope your number is more accurate than the one I got!

I hate to have it come down to seemingly minor details but with two fantastic programs with great faculty I feel that I need to get into the nitty gritty bc both schools will do the job well haha. What does T/R stand for? That is good to know b/c I have been commuting a very far distance the past 2 years and I am really sick of it so that will play in a bit. 1) What is the teaching style? Typical lecture format where they stand up front give information and you take notes or is there anything different? Are classes big or closer to 30? 2) So would you say all 5 semesters of grad school will involve commuting to each campus or only the first x amount? 3) Do you start clinic your first semester at KU? 4) Are students stressed out during the graduate school years? I know some schools students say it is the best school and greatest experience but also a very stressful period of time. Where would you say KU students fall on that spectrum? 5) What is there to do in the area? Active stuff or just venues etc. I know that is hard to answer since there are two campuses but draws from either area work. Although i'd want to live just outside Kansas city not in it.,, Thank you! -
Alright I am really struggling to pick my graduate school program. I wasn't expecting to get into more than one great program. Does anyone have any first hand reviews or compelling information that helped you decide to accept here? If I had more money I would attend the mixer but it is just too short notice to scrape up the money. I'm not loving the idea of commuting between campuses (esp in snowy weather) so wanted a students perspective on how many semesters that happens if I plan on focusing on a lot of coursework offered at the Lawrence campus. How big are class sizes, are classmates close? What is unique about the program etc. I did my research but two programs with a lot of positives have accepted me so it is going to come down to the tiny details. Thank you anyone for providing any information good or bad! Any little details at this point are super helpful in this BIG decision!

I am accepted to UTD and KU as well! Have you gathered any information? I am interested in working with kids. I am especially interested in how KU breaks down it's schedule. UTD seems to value school/life balance with students having some 3 day weekends and frequent evenings off. I pay attention way better in the morning/afternoon so this appealed to me a lot. And being out of state the 3 day weekend is appealing too to be able to fly home here and there. I'm also interested in teaching style at KU. Feels like we're running out of time to decide!!

I wish there was a quiet little country town closer to the callier center haha. I'd love a peaceful little neighborhood to go home to without any of this randomness. I can always drive to the fun stuff i'm used to that where I live haha. Might be fun to not have to for once though!

What schools are you waiting to hear from?
CBG321 replied to slptobe92's topic in Speech-Language Pathology Forum
I got in! So yes any and all details you find positive about their program. There seem to be some amazing financial aid opportunities but idk how likely it would be to get them. If I did tuition would be so affordable if not it is more expensive than my other acceptance. Both are great programs, so now i'm really struggling to decide which is the best fit. Do you have any information on how many days a week students have classes and what the schedule is like night classes vs. in the day time. Does the cohort get along etc. Honestly any and all info. The commuting between campuses is something I wouldn't look forward to, so any thoughts on that as well. -
California State Fullerton Master's Program
CBG321 replied to HopefulSLP123's topic in Speech-Language Pathology Forum
I did my post-bacc there so I can only offer that perspective. The school will get the job done, but I personally wanted a grad school experience with a little more warmth. The Professors are not mean by any stretch but I didn't find them terribly personable either most of the time. You will be prepared for the job but I know one class has a huge work load that requires students to sometimes stay on campus until 2am working to finish it up. So I would also say it will most likely be time consuming and from the few graduate students I met there a bit busy as they seemed rather harried while studying for exams. They did seem to all be in a group studying though so there's that! As is typical in California, there is no choice in classes. You take what they tell you, I personally like to pick my classes based on my interests so this was not appealing to me. Take my opinion with a grain of salt though because I do know girls that are very excited to be entering their program and have been very happy there. Your classes will be in the evening I believe if that is something you wanted to know. If you have any other specific questions you think I might know feel free to PM me! -
Yeah I crossed them off my list because of that. I'm not going to pay that much money to live in an infested apartment complex haha. Apparently a lot of apartments with dogs seem to have really immature owners who don't pick up after them too, so I'm considering non-animal friendly apartments as well to avoid that. I have not heard of that much in my area so idk if it is a city thing or unique to Dallas haha.
-
I'm looking in the exact same areas for apartments. Uptown sounded too noisy for me. We should exchange apartment lists, it would be awesome if you had seen one I had "favorited" and could give a first hand review I'll PM you about it! Maybe I should go for another visit, I just wanted to save the money for grad school but who knows might be worth it for me to go apartment hunting first hand and I'd love to see the auditorium for the bigger classes. The Autism clinic you mentioned sounds awesome, that is the only downside to Irving it would be extra far from the Richardson campus I'd imagine.
