JMU gets 350-400 applicants typically so they rely heavily on GPA and GRE scores. I applied this year and was rejected with a GPA of 4.0 in my post-bacc classes. Not saying you shouldn't apply, but you may have better luck at a school with fewer applicants so they can really look at your entire application.

Has anyone heard from these schools?
slptobe92 replied to Cookie Hall's topic in Speech-Language Pathology Forum
I'm still waiting on Bloomsburg and William Paterson. Other people have gotten acceptances and waitlists already so I'm assuming both are a no but I'm still so anxious to find out! -
Bloomsburg University Waitlist

When did you find out? I haven't heard anything from Bloomsburg yet. -
GVSU only does fall admission now actually, I just talked to admissions about this the other day

Did anyone else hear from Bloomsburg today? -
Congrats on getting in! I was kind of disappointed when I heard they were full so early but I guess they have spots opening up now so that's exciting! I can't really offer any advice on the whole director thing, but can you share a bit about your interview? What did they ask? And when did you apply? (Sorry for all the questions I'm just super anxious)

Thank you for such a sweet reply, I really appreciate it My state of mind now is I'm not expecting to get in this season so if I do it'll be a nice surprise. Otherwise I feel extra prepared for another admissions season in the spring! -

I was told (kind of rudely, if I say so myself) that I am "a ways down" on the waitlist so I'm not getting my hopes up about it. This is my first year applying and even though I have 3 schools left to hear from I've kind of already resigned myself to the fact that this won't be my year and I'm compiling a list of schools to apply to in the spring. I knew it was competitive but not THIS competitive. I wish I had discovered this field before undergrad so I could have picked a school with a ComDis program because I would mostly likely be in grad school already. I think part of it is that this career keeps being advertised all over the place and so more and more people want to get into it. And that's great because we do need more SLP's, but the schools can't accommodate such a large number of students at one time so only the perfect GPA's and GRE scores get in because they have to go by numbers when they have such a huge pool of applicants. It stinks, to be honest. -

I'm still waiting on Bloomsburg and WPU, too. I know WPU sent out some acceptances and waitlists on the 18th so I'm assuming I'm rejected. I have tried to contact them multiple times and no one ever answered or responded. I think someone said Bloomsburg was sending out notices this week or next so we should know soon! -

Have you heard anything from Bloomsburg yet? -
I emailed the first school that rejected me to see what I could do to improve my application and the person who emailed me back was incredibly helpful. He told me exactly how my SOP and LORs were rated, how my GRE scores compared, and what I could do to improve should I reapply. I emailed another school that rejected me and they simply told me the average GPA and GRE scores of their accepted students, so I think the amount of detail you'll get depends on the school and who you talk to. I don't think it hurts to ask!

Has anyone heard from Bloomsburg University yet? I heard decisions would be out at the end of the month so I hope that's true! -
Speech Pathology MA, Psych BA please help!

The biggest thing I've learned through this process is how important it is to research each school individually. Some schools have GPA cut offs and look mostly at GPA and GRE while others look at the whole package. It's impossibly to say "if you have X GPA you will for sure get into X school" because people with 4.0's are rejected and people with 3.2's get in, it really depends on the school. I would check out the results page for the schools you're interested in and even contact the schools individually (this helps them get familiar with your name before your application comes in, which shows your true interest). Good luck! -
Would anyone recommend getting a second bachelor's if I already have most of the SLP classes done through a pre-req program? I'm about to finish up all the classes through Longwood's SLPOnline program but it's not going to give me any sort of certificate or degree, it's just pre-req classes. I'm realizing now that it won't affect my GPA at all really and I'm worried I won't ever get in anywhere because my undergrad GPA was 3.0 and that's all the schools will see. Should I get a second bachelor's through USU? Only thing I'm worried about is that it's about $10,000 and I don't really have that kind of money at all right now.

I'm going to ask one of my recommenders to help me out again because she's a close family friend and an SLP that I shadowed with and she's super supportive of me reapplying. I'm going to ask two different teachers though instead of the ones I asked for the fall because I realized that they really didn't know me as well because I only had one class with each of them and it was online. I'm going to ask two of my teachers that I've had two classes each with now and hopefully they'll be able to speak to my academic abilities better.

I talked with admissions at Kent State and it turns out they don't have spring admissions. That deadline is for undergrads only. I think it's a combined BS/MS type thing.
-
I'm going to volunteer more and I'm trying to get a job as an assistant in a hospital inpatient therapy department. I don't have stellar grades or GRE scores so I'm really trying to get all the relevant experience I can. I'm going to reapply for the spring semester and I'm going to be much more selective with my schools and try to write a better SOP. I'm also hoping to improve my GPA by getting straight A's in my last 4 post-bacc classes.

Rejected from Loyola. Three schools left to hear from so I'm crossing my fingers but trying not to get my hopes up. It's looking like I'll be reapplying for the spring. -
I've been rejected by 6 schools so far and waitlisted at one. I have 3 more to hear from so it's not looking good. Anyone else preparing to apply for spring? I think once April 15th passes and things settle down I'm going to email the schools I'm interested in to ask about spring stats.

Seriously! It's so draining. The results forum is great but at the same time it's anxiety-inducing when people starting hearing from a school I applied to and I hear nothing. -

Yeah I got a rejection letter in the mail yesterday. Not sure if my file was reviewed 100% cause initially they lost one of my transcripts and were going to withdraw my application but then they found my transcript the day after the deadline (I had applied like two months earlier) and said it would all be fine.
