  1. I'm glad that you found a place that will let you apply without the GRE
  2. Its already awesome by Season 2.... you really just have to power through the first season and then the rest is golden. It is probably one of the funniest shows I've ever watched.
  3. I am a very frequent traveler... at least compared to many. I assume you will be flying? I agree with raaawr, get the full size carry on and pack lighter. Also... if it is a full flight, small regional jet, or you just don't want more hassle... you can plane side check the bag for free and they will send it straight on to your destination just like a checked bag... but without the fee. Rolling you clothes, rather than traditional folding, will keep more of your clothing from getting wrinkled. Wear comfy clothes on a plane... try shoes without laces, no belt, and no jewelry is best and fastest. Wear one headphone at the airport with music playing softly. If someone tries to swipe your phone from you pocket/ bag it will disconnect the jack and you will know immediately.
  4. HAHA I grew up near royal oak with my dad.... we would go into town for bike night and my dad would always take me to Hooters and one of the local ice cream places. And every time we left Hooters he would say "That is why you have to go to college.... if you don't go to college you'll end up working at Hooters." I also lived with my mom in a very ghetto-ey part of town in Ypsi for a long time.
  5. Its 80 here today.... and tomorrow... and every day until next week. I miss seeing snow sometimes.
  6. So it's officially been a month for those of us with Jan 15 deadlines. I check my status constantly even though it still hasn't changed from "received".
  7. So... here is the new kitty that we will be bringing home soon. We are still waiting for the all clear from the vet because she was hit by a car as a kitten and had a broken femur. The shelter got her all fixed up, and we signed the papers and payed for her and everything... we just have to wait 2-3 more weeks before she is completely off her medication and ready to come home. In the spirit of our current kitty's name "Latte'', we are looking for a good food name (I always name my cats after food) preferably coffee/tea related. Any suggestion? We were thinking Melya.
  8. Well... We got another cat :/
  9. There are lists of the top 100 or so GRE vocab words that you can google. I did this and it helped me tremendously. The GRE has a tendency to use some of the same words predictably.
  10. I don't even need an answer... just change my application portal from "received." Under review would be great. Just let me know that someone has even looked at my application at this point.
  11. Not a book... but I printed out the top 100 gre vocab words... just google it, you'll find multiple pretty consistent lists. It definitely helped me. Between this and a few practice tests, I scored a 165 on the verbal.
  12. haha....I would feel better if it wasn't complete radio silence over here. They typically don't respond until at least early march, but just some sign that they've even looked at my application would be nice lol.
  13. Oh My God.... it's been a month. Please just change my application from "received." Just give me anything... even "under review". Anything.
  14. When I started my undergrad... the university assigned you an email with a preselected username. After 4 years, it was easier to just keep using if for everything because my fingers are lazy and don't want to type something new.
  15. It's a burlap canvas. My mother made a burlap wreath once and had a bunch of leftovers... so now I have like a whole yards worth of burlap with nothing to do with it lol.
  16. You seem pretty cool lol. If you want to friend me on fbook... that's pretty cool too. Or not... it's whatever.

Heck yeah!! I just friended you! My name's Ginger =)

  17. Yeah... probably 20 minutes or so after said "stressful event" is over. I've learned to wear button up shirts, silky scarves, put my rather long hair in front of my chest, etc. Because it IS embarrassing. Which is a shame because natural'ish things like cold sores and hives shouldn't be embarrassing.
  18. Thank you everyone for the nice words about the cards. I had never really thought about making them for other people. I have an entire smashbook of crap like that that I've been saving from our entire relationship. Movie tickets, event tickets, bottle caps, postcards, pictures, etc. I like the crafty stuff. @gingin6789 That really sucks. When I get really really really stressed... as in "in front of everyone doing a presentation" or an interview or something big like that, I literally break out in hives on my chest. I even had a professor come ask me after a presentation if I was alright and if I was having an allergic reaction/ needed to go to the doctor. Lol. I guess you could say I'm allergic to public speaking.
  19. I've been wasting my time away making my third consecutive "love you" day card. I don't even know why I do this. He doesn't care about cards. Sigh.
  20. 2 of the programs you mention say "competitive scores" for the gre requirement on their admissions pages.... and I'm sorry, but the 1 percentile in Quant and only 33 percentile in Verbal is not competitive. I would seriously reconsider taking it again. There are a lot of forums on here dedicated to GRE resources that can likely help you improve your scores dramatically if you really try.
  21. haha... I was just being really sarcastic about societal views. I actually moved somewhere that I hate because my partner (a man) got a wonderful job there. I would follow him to the ends of the earth.
  22. Don't you know that women are obligated to pick up their lives and move with their man always regardless of what they are doing. Jeez.
  23. I am only 22, but my mother (almost 41) and I are applying to do PhD work at the same time. (Totally different fields... and she is a professor. already, so she doesn't really have to "apply" apply) But she does have to go back and take regular college calculus first and I keep getting questions from her lol. My brother is still in high school and is on the football team, so she is definitely feeling the semi-struggle of taking classes and still having to parent and drive him to all his practices.
