  1. Cool, thanks for letting me know!
  2. Hey, DeeLovely, thanks for the update! Did you happen to contact any of the other schools you applied to?

  16. I agree with the person above, just be patient. Asking them any unnecessary questions will just annoy them.
  17. I'm right there with you. I don't think the programs I applied to conduct interviews either so I'm just waiting until the final admittance decision is made.

  19. I can't tell either. I didn't think many schools of public health conducted interviews so I'm not surprised that there aren't many interview notifications posted in the results section. And when I searched the results sections for previous years, it seems that the schools I applied to (I applied to health behavior programs) don't typically notify their PhD applicants until mid-late February. I'm just guessing that with the holidays and the start of the new semester, the departments hold off looking at applications until maybe now and then send out notices in February. I think no news is good news at this point.

  21. I'm a year 2 applicant as well and not sure about my Plan B; I don't think about it too much. I can definitely stay at my job for another year so at least I have that but it would be extremely painful to do so. I'm just going with the 'wait and see' method. No need to panic or worry about Plan B yet. When it happens, then I'll figure it all out. For me, the wait and see helps me stay sane.
  22. I'm also a round two applicant. I applied to PhD programs two years ago and didn't get in anywhere. But this time, I really think I handled my applications in a better way so I'm actually more confident this time around. The first time I applied, it was while I was in a Master's program, and I'll admit I was so incredibly busy that I didn't give my applications the time and attention they needed. This time though, I did all the right things. I contacted professors over the summer to make sure I was good fit with their program, asked my letter writers for a strong letter of rec (as opposed to any old letter of rec), and had many people look over my personal statement. Even though I'm more confident this year, I know that doesn't necessarily mean I'll get in, but I sure hope I do! Thanks for starting this thread! It's nice to know that I'm not the only second year applicant.
  23. I don't think that there are more networking opportunities in California vs. an entire region, the midwest. Most of your networking is going to occur at conferences, through professors at your school, and through your adviser. If this graduate program in the midwest is the best fit with your interests -- it would be in your best interest to go to that program and you can always get a job in California when you're done. I went to a graduate program in the midwest and everything has worked out for me. I think fit is more important for your graduate career than location. And if the graduate program is ranked in the top 5, that's really great and will be well known by everyone in the education field, meaning when you apply to jobs, people will see where you went to grad school and know that it's a top program. (If the school overall is ranked in the top 20, that's referring to the undergraduate program, not the graduate program.) Anyway, good luck!

  25. Also check out asph.org for all accredited public health schools in the country. It has a fun interactive map feature that I like to use.
