Hey - I can speak to this since I'm currently in the two year program at U of T. They accept 140 students for the 2 year program and don't take the specialization into account. You don't actually choose your specialization until the end of first year. So if you wrote mental health and health on your application and decide throughout the program that you want to do gerontology, you totally could! Nothing is set in stone until you're midway through your practicum second semester. Hope this helps!

Grades in the last two years: 2 A+, 2 A-, 2 A, B+, B . I got an A- in research methods and an A in statistics. I did not do an honours thesis but happened to get amazing research experience over the past 5 years (graduated with a degree in Criminology with focus in Psychology). 1000 hours working doing research on mental health in the government. 3000 hours as a full time addictions counsellor at a residential youth treatment facility. 800 hours working on a research project at the same residential facility. 160 hours worth of volunteer - fundraising for treatment centre, support worker for women in the process of going through the court system and I facilitated an art program for youth I hope this helps! Any questions, let me know! Sending positive vibes your way -

Preach! I needed to read this. Heads up that they also sent out rejection letters for Carleton 2 year program. I got my email yesterday saying I was unsuccessful. I'm disappointed but trying not to let it get me down. I plan on eating some Ben and Jerry's today (maybe the whole jar?) #selfcare -

I think the Mental Health stream might be the most competitive at U of T based on past forum creeping lol -

Thanks Roxxx! I am waiting to hear back from Carleton, U of T and Laurier for the 2 year program. I have been working as an addiction counsellor for three years. I also have research experience with the government on mental health programs for police officers. I have a few volunteer roles too. I am hoping to stay local and get into Carleton. Fingers crossed. I know last year everyone found out on February 11th for both advanced standing and 2 year programs so it should be any day now. I know that Carleton got hacked in December so that may slow things down a bit. Only time will tell !
