  1. Congrats to you both! I was a Taiwan ETA for the 2015-16 school year. Let me know if you have any questions!
  2. Have you thought about teaching abroad through Fulbright? I taught English abroad in Taiwan and it was great, no TESL needed for that program. I also know others who taught in cram schools and didn't need a TESL.
  3. Hello! Does anyone know if UCLA's Teacher Education Program (TEP) has notified applicants of admissions yet?? Asking for a friend who has been sending emails and calling with no replies :/
  4. Congratulations! That's great you got into your dream program, I'm so happy for you
  5. Yes, it's definitely still exciting! Congrats to you too
  6. Admitted into UPenn! MS. Ed in Higher Ed. Kind of wish I applied to other ivies too. Well this was a nice ego boost, but I don't think I'll attend due to the high cost (they gave me a very small scholarship). Happy because I'm done with the application season now!
  7. Wow, which program did you apply to at Penn? Okay, I just called them. They responded right away and I should have just called the other day instead of emailed. Luckily they said the late study abroad transcript wouldn't affect my application because I still submitted it before the deadline, but they still "needed" the transcript. So frustrating. Yeah, none of the other schools I applied to asked for this either. I thought about just scrapping my application but I already put so much effort into the application and so did my letter of rec writers, so I decided to send it. Luckily mine was only $25. On the phone they said there was no rush so I didn't have to pay for overnight shipping....but when they put it like that, it seems like it's not even necessary! Ugh. Why make me spend extra money
  8. Yeah, I only studied abroad for a summer. They haven't replied to me yet (it's been 1 day lol) and I guess if they don't answer by the end of the week, I'll call them on Monday.
  9. So, kind of freaking out here. I applied to Penn GSE's M.S. Higher Ed program and I just got an email saying my application was incomplete. I went on the app site to check the checklist, and it said I was missing a transcript. It was for a study abroad program, but to my understanding if your study abroad credits show up on your undergrad insititution's transcript, you wouldn't need one from the university you studied abroad at? I know this is partially my fault for not looking at the checklist earlier... Does this mean they wouldn't look at my application at all until I send in that transcript? I emailed the admissions office but they haven't gotten back to me yet...
  10. If anyone here lurking is on a waitlist for UMich's MA Higher Ed program, just wanted to let you know I've declined my offer. Hopefully someone will hear good news soon!
  11. You can also take a year off and work first to help figure out your interests more before you start applying to graduate school. You probably have some applications in already for the fall, but its something to consider.
  12. Thank you so much! Super helpful and I will use your advice during my search! Yeah, I've been debating whether or not to take my car with me. Was toying around the idea of riding a scooter after seeing lots of them in Berkeley, but that's probably a bad idea in LA...
  13. Yeah, I guess that was wishful thinking haha. Thank you for the advice! I was thinking the san fernando valley since sherman oaks isn't too far, but it seems like it will be bad with traffic. I've decided that I don't want to have a shared room. Do you think it will be more than $1,500 for a single room?
  14. Hey! I had this issue with one of my professors and it was just that my email address would just go into her spam or she would have so many emails she'd be missing mine. Luckily I knew she was good friends with another professor in the same department who is lightning fast with emails and I was able to contact her and say "Hi Professor X, my letter of rec from Professor Y hasn't come in yet and I've been trying to email her. I was wondering if you could check with her for me since my emails may not be reaching her." And just like that, a couple minutes later I got an email from Professor Y apologizing for not seeing my email. Sometimes they're just too busy but at least their colleagues/friends have their personal phone numbers. Also, don't worry if they end up turning it in past the deadline. For the schools I applied to at least, they said they would be okay with letters of recs and official transcripts getting there within a week after the deadline. .....Okay I totally just scrolled back up and realized this was more than 2 weeks ago. Hopefully you were able to get the letter and maybe my post will help others in a similar situation!
  15. Reviving this topic. Is anyone looking at housing yet? Any suggested neighborhoods to live in that are affordable and not too far from campus? I want a single room but don't want to pay more than $1k a month for it. Not sure if that's reasonable or not. Willing to do a 30 minute commute during traffic times.
