Accepted off the waitlist and feeling INADEQUATE - SLP
Jess3863 replied to slp2323's topic in Speech-Language Pathology Forum
I got waitlisted for into my program to come to Japan but I got in! Once I arrived, the fact that i was waitlisted instead of beign accepted from the beginning was irrelevant. I do my job just as well as the people who had been accepted. I think having "imposter syndrome" is so common in this field. Even after finishing school, it seems like a lot of people struggle with accepting that they CAN do the job and do it well. Know you're not alone in your feeling but also know it's unwarranted and you'll do great <3 Your waitlist is irrelevant now that you're in. Make the best of it! -
University of Pittsburgh- SLP

I'm not sure about this program specifically but I am from Pittsburgh and people always speak highly of the university, especially for healthcare. -
Congratulations!!! I am doing the second BS program for Comm Dis at USU just to help my GPA because I blew it in undergrad x.x It's nice to hear some positive news.

Working as a CNA is an awesome way to get experience working with adults! I worked in a skilled nursing facility for three years and got tons of experience working with rehab patients, geriatric and dementia. Even though it's hard work it's invaluable experience.

Cheap(er) vs. Expensive program

Right! Now if we can just get more places to offer to pay for your schooling to get SLPs like how many hospitals/nursing homes do with nurses! -
University of Maine's SLP program

Unfortunately I'm from PA so not close enough! I did however see they offer some scholarships to people from other states, including PA. -

From the posts I've looked at, everyone always says to go for the cheapest program and don't look back xD -
University of Maine's SLP program
Jess3863 replied to Slp2018j's topic in Speech-Language Pathology Forum
Oh wow, really?? I won't be starting applications until the end of next year at the earliest because of life circumstances (I'm living abroad) so I hope things change! -

I'm curious about Maine but I think it's a little more expensive for out-of-staters right?? I saw something about the state really needing workers (because people are either leaving or dying) so it would be really awesome if they set up something for people to go to school there if they signed a contract to work within the state for so many years after or something. xD -
"Cheaper" out of state tuition in the western states
Jess3863 replied to Jess3863's topic in Speech-Language Pathology Forum
I really hope it helps! I had a fairly poor undergrad GPA for my first bachelors but I'm in USU's 2nd bachelors program for CSD and so far I have a 4.0 so yay! xD We'll see if I can keep it up! -
"Cheaper" out of state tuition in the western states

I appreciate your response!! I'm honetly not deadset on moving out west but from what I have found so far I hadn't seen any viable options out there so I wondered if I was missing something. I'm from the Midwest and living in Japan currently. I want to weigh my options for my next home once I move back Thanks again for your advice! -
Hey! Did you decide to go to through with going to school in Australia? I had looked into it but it seemed like it would be too expensive to be worthwhile (the cheapest I'd calculated was like $56k I think?) What did you find in your research?
-
I'm interested in looking abroad at programs! Australia's programs all seem way too expensive but the UK looks much more reasonable! Do you have a recommendation for a website for information on the different SLP programs?

Hi everyone! I am in the process of weighing which schools I want to apply to once I move back to the states. I came across WTAMU and was shocked at how low their out-of-state tuition is. I also check EdFind and was surprised to see that it's not terribly competitive compared to many other programs (only 109 applicants). This school seems too good to be true as far as tuition. Am I missing something big here? Does anyone go to this school or know anything about the program? Thanks in advance!!!

2018 Speech Pathology Graduate Applicants
Jess3863 replied to ObsessLP's topic in Speech-Language Pathology Forum
So let me just say that you are my hero! haha I graduated with a 2.64 in 2005... I am convinced I have ADHD but I'm currently in Japan so I'll wait until I go back to see someone. I love learning and I know I'm not stupid but I have a hard time concentrating on reading and it takes a longer time for me to absorb what I'm learning. I took classes after I graduated because I was considering pursuing OT (I got around a 3.5 GPA in those classes) but then I realized I could work in therapy with one of my favorite things, language!! I'm scared to death seeing all of these people with 3.8+, scared that they won't be good enough. The one thing I do have that I hope will be an asset is my experience. I have worked as a CNA, TA in a lifeskills classroom, APCT in the ICU and now I'm teaching English in Japan. I hope that having years of experience in healthcare and education helps me... we'll see. Btw, where did you get accepted??- 439 replies
