  1. Aw no! Is it your top choice? Which psych program? How do you think the interviews went? They are on spring break this week and have had a lot of closings with the weather recently.
  2. I'm going through a similar situation. I too would like to afford a 1br apartment within walking distance to campus, but it seems that anything within my budget and distance ideas falls into the studio category. I actually lived in a studio for a year and a half during my undergrad years, and I enjoyed it a lot. The personal space and lack of roommates was comfortable, and I often didn't notice that it was small because I managed to accommodate all of my needs in that space. It didn't feel like a dorm to me at all, especially because I had "my own" space and a full kitchen. I didn't spend insane amounts of time there, I think the most I ever did was on the weekends, and even then it was usually only a few hours. It was a 6-minute walk to campus and I appreciated that more than anything, especially during the winter when I had to walk, or even use the bus to get to campus because it was only a couple of minutes there as well. It's definitely doable, and if you go into it knowing that organization and storage are of high importance, you should be fine!
  3. iFelicidades! That is so awesome! Don't forget to hire us as your mariachi band when you celebrate! ;D
  4. I have actually heard of people doing this and making it known that they want to improve their applications or know what to work on. It's probably rare but not totally impossible.
  5. Truer words have never been spoken! I bet it would pay better than grad funding, too.
  6. Here's the Chapel Hill thread - I'm sure you will have no problem finding something within your desired price range - and yes despite the news Chapel Hill IS a safe place! The town itself is very family-friendly, quiet, definitely good for students. Good luck! I'll check out Edwards Mill - thanks! I guess the main concern for me is that I live in a house in Cary within 25-30 minutes of the campus currently and I'm looking to move closer, but I'm still searching!
  7. Oh okay. It's a beautiful campus! I'm sure you will love it!
  8. Yeah, Penn was my top choice, and I got rejected too. Crying probably doesn't describe it correctly, and "Happy Friday" will permanently have quotation marks around it. I am really hoping you get good news from your top 2 choices!
  9. I'll be studying Spanish and linguistics! I'm super excited. Have you visited yet?
  10. Accepted my NC State offer. Come on, August!

Yay! Raleigh is an awesome place to live! Go wolfpack!

  11. Thanks. It was my first rejection from my top school so it was kind of a huge hit but I know we are all in the same boat with it sometimes. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for everyone here, and am happy to see more admits coming in!
  12. Congratulations! What are you studying? Yay! Stats/math/engineering programs are perfect at NC State. Congrats!
  13. Now that the majority of decisions are going out, and I see an overwhelming amount of NCSU applicants, I'm gonna start the NC State thread. Feel free to drop in and say hi! I'm excited to be a part of the Wolfpack in the fall!
  14. Rejected from Penn State. This was my dream school.
  15. The way I read it in my head made it hilarious that the biggest word in the whole statement was actually spelled correctly.
  16. You would think that, right? I was at work when I got my first acceptance and called everyone, so yeah, they know basically as soon as I do. Thankfully my parents have kind of kept quiet about it because they know, but everyone that isn't in proximity to me (extended family, distant friends, etc) keep asking. If I haven't rented my Times Square billboard to announce it yet, I HAVEN'T HEARD!!
  17. To prevent myself from pulling my hair out (literally) I am furiously knitting away at multiple projects. I think I've finished 6+ pieces this year alone. That, and marathoning Criminal Minds on Netflix at night. I've already gone through Bones and Friends. It's a mind-numbing ritual, but it gets me through to the next day.
  18. Has The Bachelor been mentioned? Insert my vote for that here.
  19. I did a lot of these things as well. You aren't alone! I really agree that I wish I had started everything earlier and had it out of the way. I had to pester a lot of my writers to get their letters out in a timely manner as well, and it felt awful doing that. I'm going to send them all extreme thank you notes/something like that when all decisions are in.
  20. Some schools state that you can't apply for different degrees within the same program, some, as other posts have mentioned, consider for the MA if it's a PhD application, and some might even indicate on the application whether or not you want to be considered for the MA if you are applying for the PhD. One of my professors told me that if this is what I was interested in to apply for the PhD and indicate that I would like to be considered for the MA as well, if it were possible/not already an option on the application. Just be sure to check first! Good luck!
  21. Normally schools shouldn't be placing deadlines on when you should accept/decline an offer. They are usually very understanding that you are still waiting for other decisions. Is this a very high-ranked school? Is it one of your top choices? I would try to talk to them, especially your POI if you can work out extending or removing a deadline. You CAN accept the offer and then decide to rescind your acceptance later for another, better offer, but you have to jump through some tough hoops, especially morally. Usually the school requires a written letter from you stating why you are changing your decision (they expect sufficient reason), and you have to send it to the head of the graduate program, you can't just tell your POI or a coordinator that you are no longer planning to attend. Of course, you can also discuss your concerns with someone if you are to accept, and state that you have been given an offer. If they want you badly enough, then they will work with you to make sure that you stay with them. Programs can be played against each other if they are competitive. Also, if you haven't heard anything from schools by mid-March, it is okay to contact them regarding the status of your application. At this point in time, I would communicate with your POI about your discomfort with the deadline.
