  1. I agree with the above posters. A month is plenty of time to wait before contacting. Good luck!
  2. This is a little scary but fortunately I've always tried to keep what I said pretty clean and neutral. I would think I would be more worried about grad students on ad coms then professors on here. That seems more likely and prospectives might even disclose more to a grad student.

  4. Great info in the above posts. I'm a psychology major and sociology minor but I would never consider going to grad school in sociology. I like learning about sociology but for me I like the neuroscience involved with psychology
  5. I believe Boston College had it's interview weekend this past weekend. I'm not sure about Penn State or Yale.

  7. I'm not attending their but I did apply to their cognitive science program. I've never been to Mississippi and I have no idea what it would be like to live down there. What's the school like?

  9. From what I've gathered, the main things POI's want to talk about during an interview is the research you want to do with them. What then, do other faculty members look for in applicants? Just the overall potential you have to be a good graduate student? I just found out that I'll be meeting with each cognitive neuroscience faculty member at my interview (this weekend!!!) and I was wondering what to be prepared for for the other faculty members. Should I know their research as well? Thank you!

  17. Am I the only one who had nefarious flashbacks of the verbal section of the GRE when I read this post?
  18. haha nope. i wonder if people would think my posts are wiser if they thought i was older... probably not

  20. It really is a crap shoot from what I can tell. I know this is completely anecdotal but I knew someone who was accepted into UPenn's clinical psychology program but was rejected from several mid-range and even safety schools. The whole process is insane.
  21. Congrats on your interview!! I too only have one interview so I understand how you feel. The good news is that once they invite you to an interview, your chances of acceptance are raised a great deal. However, it is not a guarantee and it varies for each school on chances of acceptance after an interview. They could take 80% of those they interview or only 20%. But they are definitely interested in you. Good luck!!
  22. From what I've heard, at least 3+ years. Publications and presentations really help but you don't need them if you have quality research experience. Many students have completed an honors thesis and worked in multiple labs. It is also common for people to take time off to work as a full time RA.
  23. I probably should have revised my personal statements several more times. However, I reviewed the personal statement I sent into a school that invited me to an interview and I thought my personal statement was awful. So, I don't think there is anyway to predict what would have helped or hurt my chances.
  24. Best Case Scenario: I get accepted into any of the graduate programs I applied to, visit the school, and feel great about going there. I'll know more about the chance of this happening after my interview this weekend!! Worst Case Scenario: I bomb my interview and the professors tell me they made a huge mistake inviting me to their school. They also tell me that they will tell other schools how terrible I am so I never get accepted into any graduate program. I then get rejected from all 12 schools I applied to, I have to live with my parents, and work at McDonald's for an indefinite amount of time.
