  1. Okay, coming from a person who graduated with a 2.32, I took a couple of years off and worked in my field to get some experience. I did take a longer route and got a general Masters of Human Services at Liberty and graduated with a 3.6, to prove that I can do graduate work. I was accepted into 4 out 5 schools that I applied to. Continue doing your community service and take a couple of non degree seeking classes to prove that you can do graduate level work. I explained in my SOP's why my GPA was low and how this does not reflect on my current character. Good Luck!
  2. I was so disappointed with Case. I grew up in the Cleveland area, went to high school right across the street from there and KNOW how much money they get in donations and various other things for the year and yet, was only offered 25% off tuition...I was so crushed because the experience I had at the Open House was different than yours...I absolutely loved it. And this is coming from a person who NEVER wanted to go to Case cause I went their computer lab and library in high school every day...so disappointing. But congrats on finding your school and field placement!!!!
  3. Welp, after agonizing over it, I have to turn down my #1 school... Case (which is #9 in MSW programs in the nation) due to funding. They only gave me 25% off tuition which would cover only my first year....gah, back to public school I go! I am just thankful that I have been accepted into a MSW program PERIOD
  4. Congrats! I've had several friends go through that program :-)
  5. Anybody on the board going applied to or going to any Ohio area MSW programs? I've been accepted into Cleveland State's MSW program, as well as Case Western Reserve University's MSSA program.
  6. I applied to and was accepted at Catholic University of America, who is accredited. They do the automatic enrollment thing as well. I've never had that before as well, even when I was applying to the school, I had to sign a document that stated that I was fine with them doing automatic enrollment. I already have a masters and my last program, which was online, did not do this. I figure that is how this school works. I'm thinking that if they will do the enrolling, then you should not have anything to worry about :-) You'll get into class. If not then talk with your academic advisor about why you are not enrolled into your classes. Hope this helps.
  7. Was accepted to Catholic University of America on the 19th and now to Case Western Reserve University's MSSA program today..... Wooot!
  8. I totally agree. I found in the undergraduate level the most awesome BSW professors that I had were the Master level adjunct faculty that were still working in the field. I would love to try to teach, however I do not think I can explain things well. Definitely do not want to get anything mixed up with potential Social Workers.
  9. Thanks and I have looked. I would have to an extra 18 hours in California law in order for me to qualify to apply. This is what I am trying to figure out right now, how to do this. I was going to apply to CSUN (my best friend graduated from their Education program last December), however when I read that you have to be available between 9-5 all through the week, I decided not to apply. A girl has bills to pay. I needed a part time or weekend program. I thought about applying to USC, but it is waaaay out of my price range, even for my tuition reimbursement through my job.
  10. LOL yes I did. Sorry if it offended you. Me and my co workers use this term as a running joke. I love being in the trenches, if you can say, right now in my career, doing individuals, groups, assessments and what not. By me being the newest and youngest at my job, i'm always getting left overs or things that my fellow co workers do not want to do. I've also met a lot of people in Social Work who just want a job that does not deal with the public, or only deal with things behind the scenes like supervision or training. Hence, I call myself a peon. I embrace it and love it :-)
  11. I broke down last week and called one of my schools. I applied last August and had to wait until they closed their application process on February 28th. Then it was another 4-6 weeks of waiting. I broke down on the 5th week and called only for them to say that they were waiting for my transcripts....which had been in since I applied in early August *pinches bridge of nose*. So after then surfing through everything, they found it and I still had to wait for the coordinator to review my file. 8 months and 1 weeks later I was accepted. *Wipes brow* I am so impatient and was very anxious cause I was checking my mailbox EVERYDAY. Now I am waiting to here back from my #2 to see if I got in and if they offer me any type of money to attend.
  12. Okay so I have a very "dumb" question because I am brand spanking new to this forum and whole grad school applying thing (My first grad school I went to gave me a decision in like 20 minutes, they put me on hold over the phone). April 15th is mandatory decision day for ALL colleges? So I should hear back from the other schools that I have applied to by next Wednesday?
  13. I bump this. I went to high school across the street from Case Western Reserve University, was on the campus after school for YEARS going to their computer lab and library and never even had a notion to apply there. Went to the MSSA open house and was shocked about how much I actually liked the program. I even told them during the introductions that I had no intentions on EVER applying to Case because of me being there during high school :-) Hopefully I will get in and they offer enough money for me to attend this fall
  14. Well I am just starting my MSW career path and I know that I want to do concentrations in both mental health and AOD (I currently work for the Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services). For the state of Ohio, we have the LISW (LCSW in other terms) and this is what I am pursing. I will also be applying for my LCSW in California since I've been wanting to move to the Los Angeles area for the past 5 years (my best friend and her family live in LA). I have absolute no desire to get a PhD or DSW; teaching is not my thing. Kudos to those who will continue on. For right now, I like being a peon and working in the field. I eventually would like to get my supervisor credential and create more MSW practicums for future Social Workers at the juvenile and adult prison facilities here in Ohio. I absolutely LOVE working with intern students for some reason :-)
  15. I graduated from my undergrad program with a 2.32. I just could not get it. By the time I graduated I thought I would never even think of going to grad school. Well of course that changed after I got my Social Worker License and was hired by the state to work in the juvenile prisons. Knowing that I would not get into ANY MSW program with a 2.3, I went to an accredited online school and achieved a 3.63 to prove that I can actually do the work (I was so pissed cause I was wondering where my smarts went in undergrad lol). I think that getting my Social Worker License, working for 5+ years in my field (I was hired by my senior year practicum and was blessed enough to become a probation officer by 23 and a parole officer by 26) really helped my chances. However I was rejected by The University of New England because of my SOP...they said I needed to take graduate writing courses, even though I had just graduated from a masters program. Go figure For those who need LOR, keep plugging, especially if you do not have any school references. The one and only reference from my BSW program retired and I have no contact with her anymore. My field practicum teacher refused saying that she wouldn't have anything good to say, even though I received an A in her class *shoulder shrug*. Just be thankful that your teachers are being honest and not black balling you in your attempts to get into a program. Ask your supervisors, clergy, trainers on the job, anyone who you've worked with, ask. Get people who know your character and your work who can vouch for you. I just got accepted into my second MSW school today and am waiting to hear back for two more. So like my signature says, if I can get into grad school then so can you! lol
