taking classes as non-degree seeking student=admission
sierra918 replied to Nico Corr's question in Questions and Answers
This did work for a girl in my M.A. Program. She did a year of required courses in our program and was admitted the following year. -
You may want to talk to the Director of Graduate Studies about it.
-
It might. I would email or call just to make sure. It might be a mistake.
-
I'm hoping for the 29th!!! That means we only have a week left! Longest...week....ever
-
I'll be starting at Vandy in the fall, and my husband and I bought a house in Murfreesboro, about 39 minutes south of Vandy. It's a really great area for families of anyone else is coming with children ?

Congratulations!!! It was awesome if them to email you so late on a Friday night!!! Now you can celebrate over the weekend ?

I don't know what the norm is in your field. Are they not offering a tuition waiver?
-
There's a fair amount of information out there about how it works. I think some of it is posted in a forum on GradCafe, but I couldn't tell you where!
-
That was me. I'll send you a PM.
-
I think that's partially true, as long as you meet certain criteria. There is certainly a bit of subjectivity to it! So, it's really anybody's game!
-
You're right! I hadn't realized that about the 2007 announcement! There haven't been any mid-April announcements since 2011, so I still think we should expect that last week of March
-
I know someone already posted this, but here are the announcement dates for past years. Since 2007, the results have only been posted before April 1 one time. Also, for some reason, it's always been a Tuesday or Friday since 2008! Based on that, I'm guessing Tuesday, March 29 or Friday, April 1 this year. 2015: Tuesday, March 31, 2015 @~3:00AM 2014: Tuesday, April 1, 2014 @ ~2:00AM 2013 :Friday, March 29, 2013 @ ~2:00AM 2012: Friday, April 1, 2012 @ ~2:00AM 2011: Tuesday, April 5, 2011 @ ~12:50AM 2010: Tuesday, April 6, 2010 @ ~1:00AM 2009: Friday, April 10, 2009 @ ~1:00AM 2008: Tuesday, April 1, 2008 @ ~2:00AM 2007: Monday, March 23. 2007 @ ~11:20 PM

I started my GRFP proposal in February 2015. I don't think it's too early at all! If you don't get it this year, your proposal is going to be so well-refined that you'll have a really solid chance next year! Don't give up on this year so soon though Good luck!

Of course! So, you've never been to Vandy? I don't know how important this is to you, but the campus is stunning.

I should also mention that Nashville is a really fun city! There is so much going on, so there's always something fun to do ?

I've also been accepted to Vanderbilt, and I'm currently living just outside Nashville in Murfreesboro. I've never been to DC, but I do know that the closet you get to Vandy, the more expensive quality housing gets. That's why we live farther out. By talking to current students in my department, it seems like rent ranges from $500 (for a small, shabbier apartment) to $1300 (for something on the nicer side). These are both within walking distance to campus. Overall, it seems very doable with the stipends received.

We need a little more information. Are you an international student? What is your field of study? Where will you be applying/attending?
-
Same here, Neist!!! I started mine about 9 months before the deadline! Good luck to you!
-
Yes!!! I know what school I'm going to, so now all my waiting is focused on the GRFP! 2.5 ish weeks to go!!
-
You are awesome! What a great attitude and uplifting message! I believe you've truly earned your spot Congrats!!
-
Very sound advice! I took 6 years between my M.A. and applying to Ph.D programs. After working in my field that whole time, one really honed in on my research interests and career goals.

It is also sometimes possible to have these things expunged. I agree that you should speak with a lawyer.
-
I don't know about you all, but I'm dying to know already haha! Now that the wait for program acceptances is over for me, this is my new waiting game ?
