@gingin6789 It was my first day of school yesterday as well. Unfortunately after missing class last week, there aren't many open courses for me to enroll in.
-
Great, thanks! Their History of Science program deadline is still open, and I've been on the fence as to whether to apply/bother my recommenders for one more school. Also to the person who got the NYU interview, what subfield were you? And any idea when they're releasing decisions?
-
Anyone know anything about UToronto/are applying there?
-
Yess can people please discuss the significance of these hits? I've been getting them from lots of towns near some of my schools.
-
Not to freak anyone out, but Brown historically asks for interviews over the next few days
-
@nevermind Oh, yes, I understand. I am running into an unofficial acceptance/but they're trying to find funding type situation myself, so I understand. I do, however, think its always nice and flattering to have professors interested in your work; and a great sign of things to come. Even to get to the point of getting an interview shows that your work is truly compelling and exciting!
-
@nevermind It for sure sounds like an acceptance is in the cards!!
-
@nevermind Let us know how your interview goes!
-
speaking of techie, I just totally cleaned by email inbox so that nothing except very important emails (aka from schools or professors) will give me a notification. i'm getting crazy!
-
@7-11 Coffee and @katpillow If I may ask, were your recommenders ok with so many schools, or did you break it up by more recommenders? I applied to maybe a third of what you both applied to and I always felt like I was annoying my recommenders by asking them for so many.

How common is it to apply out of undergrad and get rejected across the board?
-
I think visiting schools is soo important. I finally gave my talk that I'd been nervous about for weeks, and it was amazing and made me really want to be an academic. Even more than that though, I realized what it's like to have a really nice collaborative department. I felt super warm and welcomed which I absolutely cannot say for my current program (I go in my department's office scared out of my mind usually). But I only figured this out after I visited and met other students, and saw how the professors and students interacted!

anthropology is literally the slowest subject!! nothing really on the results board yet, and all the other disciplines have interviews and acceptances! grr.

@Pink Fuzzy Bunny My parents are the same way about stuff. Very supportive of most of my academic decisions, maybe not the personal ones I secretly think they've breathed a sigh of relief now that I'm single and not at risk of moving in with anyone!
-
@Pink Fuzzy Bunny it is. plus, it's a plane ride away and I'm staying in a hotel all by myself! (for college I've always either lived with a boyfriend, or 4-6 roommates! ) but the lab guy seems interested in me, and could possibly get me the funding i need at the university i'm speaking at. everyone i've talked to sounds super nice, warm, and welcoming and seems to really want the funding situation to work out at the program I applied to, but its still nervewracking, especially since I'm considered an international student there, its tough. @Neist thanks

ugh guys i have an interview at a lab tomorrow and a big talk wednesday. so nervewracking. i can't wait for thursday to get here!

"Brand Name" UG School
anthrostudentcyn replied to vestigialtraits's question in Questions and Answers
I don't think so. My good friend has a BA from a mediocre state university, and just got an interview at her top student affairs program. I'm at a "top" (top 5) UG and I don't think it makes a difference. But others please correct me if I'm wrong. -
I'm also a BA to PhD aspirant! But I also applied to a lot of MA's, so it's up in the air!
-
Wow!Marriage/kids sounds so far off (I'm in my last year of undergrad!). Right now I'm more in the mindset of figuring out the rest of my life, and spending time with friends in the last semester. All this stuff is exciting to think about, though!
-
@gingin6789 That sounds like such a great day! I've always been a fan of a small wedding, so it's exciting to know that it's doable!
-
guyss this week we could be hearing stuff! who knows!
-
Also did anyone apply to anthropology at McGill?
-
Getting married!!! @gingin6789 if that was me, no way I'd be thinking about grad schools. I'm such a romantic and this makes me soooo excited!
-
@lightballsdeep which programs, may I ask? I'm thinking of throwing in some last minute apps.

@Pink Fuzzy Bunny you are on a roll!!!! congrats!!
