  1. GRE subject test practice #3: 690. If I can cram enough information for five more right answers into my skull, I can break 710...! T-minus two weeks...

  2. GRE Subject test: Check. GRE General re-take: I dunno....is it REALLY worth it? REALLY?

  3. has returned to dispense advice and entertain all and sundry...! ;op

You are great! I really admire you. Never let anything bring you down, - do research, write papers, read books and then you can get through anything!

heyyyyyy welcome back! Hope everything is going well :)

  4. hehe, no, the eye rolling happened at my mom's house. sadly, they don't really understand or condone my medievalist tendencies, although they try to tolerate it as long as they can. ;op

  5. hehe, stupid 400 word limit on comments! I think not, on the emailing. I want to with all my being, but I don't think it would do any good and might just irritate already-overloaded folks in the department. That's my thinking on it, anyhow. Though - I surely want to!! lol I am at the point where I figure, if I'm in, I'm in, if not emailing won't help.

  6. Hello, I just wanted to stop by and thank you for your very kind words about my writing and such. If only the adcomms agreed with you! lol I'm still hopeful and stubborn, though, and certainly intend to see this through if I can. You're waiting for funding info - does that mean you're in somewhere? If so,congratulations!!

  7. hellooooooo! She was the editor of Arthuriana! She's a major Malorean.I was lucky enough to meet her @ a conference while I was working on my thesis, & she listened to me talk about it, & then about a week later I got an offprint of an article she had written on a similar subject in the mail - she knew I couldn't afford to buy the book it was in & was kind enough to ...

  8. Hey, gradcafe! I'm pulling a King Arthur move showing up after so long, but nice to pop in and see you good folks! :o)

  9. Hey, have you heard anything further?

  10. hey, where are you heading next year again? You told me, but I forgot. :o(

  11. HEY!! Waitlist isn't a "no"! And SMU means Bonnie Wheeler - awesome, awesome, awesome, I REALLY hope you get it!!! :o) :o) :o)

  12. Hi, I'm removing you from my friends list because I have no idea who you are, and I tend not to accept friend requests from people who are brand-new to the board and have never introduced themselves to me.

  13. Hi, thank you for the friend request, but I usually expect to get to know someone a bit before accepting those...I've removed you for the present, but would be more than happy to establish a conversation with an eye towards reversing that if it turns out we are, indeed, friendly. :o)

  14. Hi, thanks for the friend request! So how does someone in geosciences also pick up a love of Beowulf? ;op

  15. Hi, that's an interesting situation you're in w/the accept after the rejection! I'd love to hear the story! :o)

  16. hmmmmm....Well, I might not get into a PhD program, but I DO know the words to the Star Spangled Banner....! Oooops.

I'm not reveling in her mistakes, I'm wallowing in my own self-proclaimed anxiety. But, as long as we are on the topic - she's sung the National Anthem countless times and she is a professional with fifteen years' experience, being paid ridiculously high sums of money to NOT blow it when the cameras are rolling and the mic is on. Nerves be darned - there was no excuse for what happened out there. It's the freaking national anthem. If she were covering someone else's so...

If she were covering someone else's song, MAYBE it would be justifiable, but the national anthem? No excuse. I certainly feel badly for her, but I'm not going to make excuses for what happened out there, either.

All I can say is... supposedly what we "so proudly" watched was "the twilight's last reaming." However you want to interpret that, it doesn't make the American Revolution sound like a tasteful affair.

  17. I could probably hate online applications more than I already do, but I'm not sure just how...

  18. I don't have a lot of room to spare in that fine line between in and sane.

  19. I GOT IN I GOT IN I GOT IN I GOT IN I GOT IN OHMYFUCKING GOD(DESS)(E)(S) I ACTUALLY DID IT!!!!!!

  20. I haven't heard about funding yet; I think they require the FAFSA first, so I have to file. It feels good and is a relief to have an admit under my belt. CUA was a reach school for me logistically, so we're hoping still for UNC or UVA, which would not require moving and/or commuting...but this year, in this climate, I'm not taking this admit for granted at ALL!!

  21. I hope so!!!! I'd love to see you get in there! I will say, the UNC faculty is slightly older, especially the medieval cohort, so it's possible they would like older candidates to work with because younger ones can get awfully annoying....! lol Keeping my fingers crossed for you!!

  22. I know...I once posted facetiously that they must determine accepts based on your Zodiac sign's compatibility with that of your potential advisors, or perhaps based on whether or not you used the term "ice cream" in your SOP....I'm starting to wonder if I mightn't have been right after all, because really, this makes no sense to me! lol I'm hopeful, though, and I...

  23. I noticed something while I was researching online classes...the two institutions we have bemoaned as being kind of hoity-toity ONLY offer grad level courses during the school day and NO classes online...talk about trying to maintain the Ivory Tower! ;op

  24. I wonder WHY the Math and Science folks find out so much earlier than the rest of us...?

It also doesn't hurt that for a lot the them the deadlines are often in early December.
