  1. Interesting. I enjoyed reading your recommendations on your site, too. Thanks! I know this isn't the correct thread, but instead of starting a new one, who would you recommend to ask for letters of recommendation? I don't have any lab experience from my undergrad (dumb mistake, I know), so I'm guessing asking any professor I took courses from would be the best option? I did well with my courses and went to office hours a couple of times, but I don't have a great relationship with them. I'm not sure if it would be a good idea to ask them anyway. Any recommendations or tips for letters of rec are appreciated. Thanks!
  2. Burn it? Wow! I think it's a pretty good book. Do you not like any of the Kaplan resources on the website either?
  3. My GRE scores are almost the same as yours - minus a few points. I have applied to a couple of schools for the online SLP programs, but did not get accepted. I'm assuming it is because of my low GRE scores. I'm going to retake the GRE very soon and reapply hoping to get accepted. It looks like most of the online programs have a pretty good SLP masters program. I think my favorite is Eastern New Mexico University, but I didn't get accepted. Were you not interested in applying there? How much more did you study before taking the GRE again? What study materials have you used? I've been studying alot (at least 3-4 hours a day) and am hoping my GRE score really improves. I'm using the Kaplan GRE Premier 2015 book, using flashcards, and the Magoosh.com resources. Best of luck to you! Keep in touch!
  4. That's very helpful information. Thanks! I'm using the Kaplan GRE Premier 2015 book and it provides correct answer explanations. I like how it also explains why the wrong answers aren't the correct ones. Have you used any other books as study materials for the Verbal reasoning section? I guess I'm not up to date with everything, but what is FWIW?
  5. Where did you find SLP forums for Arizona? I only see general SLP users on this website, not those specific to each state.
  6. I am going to be applying to SLP programs for online schools. I currently live in Arizona and would love to apply to CA schools, but tuition is much too expensive. My current GPA is decent and my original GRE scores were a bit low, but ok. Although I'm a bit nervous, I'm going to re-take the GRE and apply to more schools. I hope I get accepted somewhere!
  7. I just completed a verbal reasoning practice set. I did pretty well, but I missed a few sentence completion questions asking to choose two answers that are similar in meaning. I got most of one answer correct, but I missed the other one. Is the best way to practice these questions to keep studying vocabulary, so that I'm more familiar with words that are synonyms? What other study tips or recommendations can anyone provide for these question types?
  8. The reflection of (–2, 5) over the line y = –x is (–5, 2). Reflecting a point over the line y = –x reverses the coordinates and gives each the opposite sign. I'm a little confused by this question. Are the coordinates reversed and the opposite sign given in this case because y = - x? Or is this always the case no matter how a point is reflected?
  9. Okay that helps a little bit. Only professional references are best, then? Any other tips you can provide?
  10. I know it's best to ask professors especially those whose labs I've worked in, but I have no lab experience for my undergraduate studies. Should I ask professors who I did fairly well within their classes? Also, can I ask a personal reference and a couple references from professors? Any other recommendations or suggestions for references would be helpful. Thanks!
  11. I'm curious about a quantitative question that I was asked on a practice GRE test. A, B, and C are the lengths of the sides of the triangle. Quantity A is 2b and Quantity B is a+b+c. When drawing a picture for this question, how do I know which triangle to use and which side is a, b, or c? I know I can substitute any number in for the variable to determine whether value A or B is greater, but I'm not sure how to draw the triangle. Please help!
  12. I am getting much better at the analytical writing portion of the GRE, but am wondering about a few things. Most of the topics ask whether you agree or disagree with a statement and to provide examples or details that support your decision. When choosing either side (agree or disagree) and providing examples/information to support my decision, is it okay to provide information relating to the opposite side too? I know I am supposed to choose one side and explain it, but it seems like information about the other side helps support my decision and explain my reasoning further. I just don't want to provide information for the opposite side and confusing readers with which side I choose, yet, I want to provide this information to help support my decision. I hope this all makes sense. Please help!
  13. I have been using many resources to study for the verbal section of the GRE, but still feel very overwhelmed with the amount of vocabulary words and being able to correctly define words for sentence completion. I currently have the Kaplan GRE Premier 2015 and Barron's GRE books and have also used the vocabulary list of the top GRE words. Can anyone else recommend other study tools, materials, or tips for the verbal section of the test? I'll also take recommendations for the other sections as well.
  14. Im looking to raise my verbal and quant scores. My previous writing score was a 4.0 which is ok. I may work on writing some more to try and increase it though. Would you recommend starting in the summer is similar to starting in the spring or fall or should I avoid summer start dates?
  15. I am using Magoosh for a few things. I like it. Have you used it?
  16. I have been reviewing all of the concepts for the different sections of the quantitative portion of the GRE. I feel pretty good about them, but sometimes when I practice the exercises and work on examples on my own, I get confused or dont know how to do them. And them I get the wrong answers. Should alot of extra reviewing of the concepts help with this? How else can I get much better at this whole section of the test?
  17. What GRE study materials has everyone used? Did you create flash cards for the vocab words? Anyone like Magoosh? I'm using it as a study tool. It seems to be pretty good. I'm using vocab flashcards and I have two pretty good GRE books but was curious what others have used. What other books, websites, or study materials would everyone suggest to use?
  18. I have decided I should probably re-take the GRE based on my last scores (Q:140, V:143, and W: 4.0) but am curious about everyone's way of studying. Did you make flashcards for the vocabulary words or how did you study them? Did you practice the math concepts over and over again to become more familiar with them? Did you practice writing essays ahead of time? Any other helpful hints?
  19. I have applied to six graduate schools so far and have only heard back from one (not accepted). My GPA is just at a 3.0 and my GRE scores are okay - V: 140, Q: 143, and Writing: 4.0 How much longer should I wait to hear back from the other schools? Should I submit more applications or should I retake the GRE first to try and improve my scores? Any comments, suggestions, and feedback is appreciated. Thanks!
