  1. I'm in my first semester of graduate school at LSU in Baton Rouge. It's a great school and I love it, but a health issue that was under control before I started the program (epilepsy) has made it impossible to be away from my family back in Kansas since I have no family here and don't know anyone besides people in my program. I had applied to a school in Kansas last year and got in, and I've heard of people transferring schools before, usually up to 9 or so graduate credit hours. I know people who go there who will put in a good word for me to their chair, and they acted like I would have a good chance of being able to go there, and my professors and chair will have positive things to say about me as well, since I should be receiving all A's this semester. I will be meeting with our chair, along with one of my close professors/advisors as back up this week to discuss transferring. My question is does anyone have a personal story of transferring? or know of someone who transferred? I am assuming I will need to wait until at least the summer to start, but since I need to get my epilepsy under control the waiting issue is not a big deal to me. My main concern is student loans and how those might be affected as well. Seriously any information would be so helpful!
  2. I don't know about them, but LSU in Baton Rouge does. I am out of field (Biology) and out of state (Kansas).
  3. Have you gotten any information since you accepted like classes and such?
  4. This was extremely extremely helpful thank you for all of the help! ?
  5. My status still says under review online.
  6. Totally used to that weather, Kansas has awful summers exactly like that. I keep hearing about tiger land is that just a general area somewhere? What is like the furthest away you could probably live from campus like a few miles before the commute is bad? I'm hoping to be within walking distance or so but I've heard traffic is really bad there. Do you have any other tips?
  7. Any help is greatly appreciated so thank you! It's so hard to tell when there are so many options and the reviews are all over the place. And I don't know what BR is like at all so it's nice to have some help!
  8. What are some apartments you recommend on the south side?
  9. How safe is Tiger Manor? What other apartments are good around LSU? I've looked at Stanley Burbank and Campus Crossing which both seem safe and nice. Most of them just seem really overpriced.
  10. Thanks for the tips those are extremely helpful!! I hope you hear back soon for both schools!
  11. Trying to find a 2 bedroom apartment that is preferably walking distance to LSU, pet friendly, and safe. Not too picky on how nice the inside is as long as it's comfortable. So far on google reviews Tiger manor, southgate and woodlands had good reviews, except I know these are not walking distance. Also what sides of LSU are safe, I've read the north side is the dangerous side?
  12. Still waiting on USM! Can anyone help me out weather wise what it is generally like in Louisiana and Mississippi for the seasons? I have no idea what types of coats etc. to bring when I move. Also if anyone could help me out with BR in terms of good places to live it would be extremely helpful! I've looked at the Woodlands and Tiger Manor, was wondering if they were as good as the Google reviews online etc.
  13. I am most likely going here! I wish we didn't have to accept so soon i haven't been able to visit. This was my top choice!
  14. I'm not sure about the teaching style since I'm not in their grad program, but I believe it's just a normal teaching style of lecture. The commute would be about 45 minutes between Lawrence and KC. Usually one campus Tuesday/Thursday and vice versa. The classes aren't very big since KU's class size in general isn't that big, so everyone gets along and knows each other well. In KC there are many areas to live, we have a lot of really good restaurants especially BBQ, many breweries that we take a lot of pride in, and a lot of events and festivals. You start in clinic pretty much immediately.
  15. Generally you either have class T/R at the Lawrence campus or vice versa, so there pretty much is always driving. The clinic and LAP preschool are at the Lawrence campus but the med center obviously has many placements as well. One bad thing about the med center is the parking is terrible! KU is definitely more children's based, and we have a huge computer lab of all of the different AAC devices. The faulty is probably what makes KU ranked so high besides their research, they are all so down to earth and friendly, but also extremely smart. They're always willing to help and always in your best interest, regardless if it's for KU's best interest or not. The really only con they have is the driving part. If you want to live in a college town then live in Lawrence, but if you enjoy a bigger city, we have KCMO, which is catered for 20-30 year olds and is an amazing place to live. I think I forgot to respond to your question in a different thread, so ask any more questions you need! I'm happy to help since the Lawrence/KC campuses are confusing.
  16. What's the major difference between the programs at Baton Rouge and New Orleans? I didn't apply to the one in New Orleans I was just curious. Have they sent out letters yet for you? I can't believe USM hasn't sent stuff out yet!
  17. Can anyone tell me more about Baton Rouge and Louisiana in general? From what I've heard and viewed online LSU is what I'm looking for. Their campus is beautiful, the faculty sounds great and I love football ? Any input would be appreciated. I looked at the Baton Rouge city forum on here but would like some insight from fellow speech students.
  18. They met this week, so they should be sending things out literally anytime. They do it right before spring break usually every year, this year has been slower.
  19. If you want to know anything about KU or Lawrence I can help!
  20. I'm not sure how many out of state students they accept. I'm assuming they favor Louisiana residents (which is fair). I'm worried that since I'm from Kansas my chances aren't as good. So annoyed LSU hasn't sent anything and still waiting on Southern Miss! This will be a stressful spring break.
  21. I'm waiting to hear from Arkansas, Ole Miss, KU, LSU, Southern Miss, and Vanderbilt. I've only heard back from one, Rockhurst, luckily it was good news!
  22. I got that this morning too, was super disappointed to see that it was only a survey. I was hoping to hear back by the end of this week, because I wanted to go on visits to see what the schools are like. Are you an undergrad at one of the schools currently?
  23. That sounds perfect! Exactly what Lawrence is like. I'm going on some visits over spring break and Oxford is one of my stops.
  24. Thank you so much for the reply about Ole Miss! It's helpful to hear from someone that is currently there. Do you enjoy Oxford? I'm more interested in college towns since I'm from a small town in Kansas and went to KU.
