  1. I applied to LSU BR and USM, and mine still says under review. When are we supposed to hear?
  2. That is extremely unfortunate to hear. The town and campus were both things that reminded me of KU which is why I applied there. Did you apply to Memphis or any of the SEC schools? I have no idea when some of the schools decide on applications, I'm assuming during spring break.
  3. Does anyone know when LSU Baton Rouge sends out letters? or schools in Mississippi (Ole Miss and Southern Miss)? KU sends out letters during spring break in case anyone applied there.
  4. Does anyone know when LSU or the Mississippi schools send out decisions? I'm assuming mid to late March?
  5. Does anyone know much about Auburn, Southern Mississippi, Ole Miss, or Arkansas?
  6. Do you know very much about Auburns program?
  7. I asked my advisor about it, and he said if it was something major that they wouldn't be accredited anymore, and not to worry about them losing accredition it I went to school there. Often it can be very minor things that causes them to be on probation, and schools immediately make changes that are needed that way they can keep their program.
  8. From what I've heard and what I did, you don't address anyone at the top of the statement. I indented each paragraph but I also don't think schools would notice or care about something small like that. Some schools like Vanderbilt have examples of med students personal statements, and they didn't address anyone in their statement. Hope that helps.
  9. I am applying from out of the field and I took my pre-requisites from KU, we don't even have the option of taking the Speech Path I, II, III that are listed, those are part of a general course. That's interesting they are so specific, those are usually more grad-school level classes. If you have the option of explaining if you are missing any courses etc, explain why you don't have that course. I don't think it would hurt your chances very much, especially if you say you will finish in the summer. I also don't know how competitive Cal State LA is, I'm applying to schools in the South or in KS.
  10. I would assume since your cumulative GPA and last 60 credits are good, I'm not sure if they would care too much about the grade. Since I am not from the east coast, I'm not sure how competitive NYU or Columbia is, but I know east coast schools overall are generally very competitive. You could always look at some schools in Wisconsin, I know they have a lot of options and a few online schools since that would be close for you. Washington schools are extremely competitive so I would be more wary about applying there. While anatomy is very relevant to the profession, that's not a requirement for programs. As long as your SLP grades are good and your GRE scores are competitive you have a chance. Plus you have a lot of volunteering experience.
  11. I noticed when I was entering my pre-requisites for schools, they don't ask if it is online or not, just if you had done the required courses. There are some pros to attending classes at a campus. I was able to shadow some professors that I had for classes, and was able to learn more about different areas of speech by observing sites at my school (KU). I asked for two letters from professors that I observed, both whom are on the admissions committee at KU. I had to go to work part-time since I didn't do it online, but I definitely think it was worth it. The professors can learn a lot about your personality and study habits just by having you in class, which will help you a lot if you are applying to that program.
  12. That's so interesting! I've been a preschool teacher for 3 years but I'm interested in the medical side of SLP and working with adults more, especially with neurogenic disorders. I've often heard that grad schools often like having older applicants because we have more experience and can handle grad school more easily, at least that's how KU is with pre-req/older students, even though I'm only 24!
  13. Thank you for the reply! LSU a is actually a top choice of mine since I liked the clinical experiences they offer and what research they offered. I am from a small town in Kansas so I enjoy college-towns, even Nashville seems big to me. So are you applying this year to LSU or are you already in the program? I graduated with a degree in organismal biology but have taken all the pre-requisities that seem to be needed for many programs.
  14. Does anyone know anything about these schools, opinions, people who went to undergrad there? I am wondering what the faculty, program, people are like there. I know their stats and have looked at their websites online, but was wondering if anyone had any thoughts about them. Any input is HIGHLY appreciated. I am graduating from KU and applied to these schools besides KU and Vanderbilt.
  15. Hi everyone! Don't know if there is a thread like this already going, but I am interested where everyone is applying to for Fall 2016! I am from Kansas and applying to 8 schools, possibly 10: KU, Rockhurst, LSU, Ole Miss, Arkansas, UAMS, Vanderbilt, and Memphis. Already finished up the applications, but am worried about getting in somewhere (as everyone does). Also interested in applying to Southern Miss and Auburn, but since I am from Kansas some of the information on their sites are a little uninformative. Does anyone know much about Ole Miss, Auburn, or Southern Miss? Always interested in hearing about where people from the east/west coast are applying to!
