  1. You are absolutely right @TakeruK.. I was definitely looking at it like she was still my supervisor and so I was feeling this pressure to deliver... I discussed it with her and now that the pressure is off, I think we are on our way to a good publication! Thanks!
  2. So my undergrad thesis supervisor recently contacted me and asked if I would be interested in publishing the work we did then...It has been 4 years since I graduated and I have done completely different research since then. I thought I was making good progress when I sent her a draft of the paper (- discussion) but the comment I got back was "I trust with your new knowledge, you will write a much better paper". To top it off, the journal had sent an invite which expires soon (or might have expired tbh...). Now I feel stuck, and honestly, slightly incompetent . It has been a long time since I kept up with that literature so trying to write a discussion feels like mission impossible. Would it be completely wrong of me to ask her to finish it off?
  3. I was also totally hooked when I discovered podcasts...felt like my life was a waste before then. the royal college of psychiatrists has a really good collection of episodes: RCPsych, and another one of my favorites is NPR hidden brain podcast.
  4. Thanks all for the helpful tips!
  5. @Scotty212 I didnt get any official notice in my email but my status online says I wasnt awarded..
  6. @gilliweed_308 @eternallyephemeral congrats on your acceptances! I am also moving to London in September, starting my (second) Msc in clinical psych.. I've been looking for a 1BR apartment close to campus, ideally Masonville or Old North since I heard those are the least sketchy areas.. however, I have realized these are the priciest.. I have only been to London once, so @eternallyephemeral do you know if it possible to walk to campus from downtown? Or is too far?
  7. not awarded... Good luck to those on the waitlist!
  8. Did you guys get an email or did you have to login and check? No emails in my inbox yet... should I assume rejection?
  9. so I ended up with a late interview mid-March and an acceptance...I guess anything can happen with clin psych applications!
  10. Thanks to everyone for the input! I am going into the M.Sc. program this fall, and it is assumed I will continue onto the PhD. I had some reservations at first because when I interviewed with my POI, there was a heavy emphasis on the research side of things. I even heard the phrase: I dont think you need a PhD to become clinicians. I was afraid that meant research work will come first, at the expense of time that should be spent on clinical training, which is why I wanted to know how the experience has been for previous and current students. I love research, but wouldnt want to be doing only that..hence the choice to sign up for double the work... It does sound like it will be what I make of it, and that achieving the right balance is up to me more than on the program or supervisor...
  11. So as I understand it, PhD programs in clinical psychology are ideal for students interested in both research and clinical training. I am wondering if current students (or anyone really) can comment on the best way to achieve this balance in practice during the PhD? Also what is the role of the supervisor in helping the student with this balance? Is it a bad thing to have a supervisor who is more on the scientist side of the scientist-practitioner model???
  12. Glad you raised this question. I am at the crossroad of making that decision myself. Got an offer from one of the 2 schools I applied to (I was already tempting the gods of chance..) and it appears that my POI does not value clinical training as much as I would have liked so I am trying to decide whether or not its worth it. Tough decision really.
  13. Good (and disappointing) to know...thanks!
  14. So I am obsessing here a little bit but I have a question. I emailed one of my POIs at Ottawa to ask whether he shortlisted applicants yet and he mentioned that he just received the list and will be contacting them over the next couple of weeks. Would it be insane if I tried to sell myself again at this point? Of course thats assuming my name was on the list he got to begin with... But I mean if I try and he says my name wasnt on there, I'd at least know...
