PsychBoy got a reaction from PsycUndergrad in SSHRC Doctoral Award/CGS (funding for 2018-2019)
good question...
probably no limits...
For the Vanier there's a quota per university for the nomination and then no limits for the winners so it's likely the same process?

All of that says that you can apply to CGS Masters if you're heading towards a MA/PhD program (e.g. just finished undergrad) or are in your first few months. If you've already been enrolled for a year, you must apply to SSHRC doctoral... I already have an MA so wouldn't be eligible for CGS-M.
Yes. SSHRC applications are divided into an A list and a B list - As are forwarded, Bs are not. For enrolled students, this is done at the university level. For direct applicants it's done by a pre selection committee. If your university told you you've been forwarded to the national competition then your app will be adjudicated to receive SSHRC. If you don't hear anything from SSHRC as a direct applicant, you'll also be adjudicated.

You have to be nominated by the university you are applying to (not by your current one). Hence, contact them super early because they don't know you and to learn about their nomination process.

I'd wait one week in the beginning of April if you don't receive any letter or e-mail from SSHRC...

In previous years, it's usually the 2nd or 3rd week of April, but I think the schools may hear back before. The year I won, I applied as a direct applicant and didn't hear anything until I got my letter (around April 25; letter was dated April 20th).

Thanks everyone. I don’t want this to come off as fake “consolation” but I do want to let everyone know that last year I applied for SSHRC and wasn’t even forwarded to the national competition. And now this year I’ve advanved in SSHRC, Vanier, and Trudeau. Same project. Same grades. One extra co-authored publication. From what I’ve heard from my supervisor and the department there are a lot of politics and other behind-the-scenes information we aren’t privy to. So please, please, please don’t take the outcome as a reflection of your work and especially not of you as a person. It really seems like a crapshoot.

I think so, or my university will send me mail. It wasn't really clear. I'll have to ask my grad coordinator.

PsychBoy reacted to mwigg in SSHRC Doctoral Fellowship/CGS Doctoral Scholarship 2017/2018
Back in May 2017 I was waitlisted for SSHRC, but never heard anything more. I applied again for the 2018 competition, and was informed in December that I didn't make the cutoff and my application wouln't be forwarded to SSHRC.
This afternoon I get an email telling me that I've been awarded a scholarship from the 2017 competition - a Bombardier fellowship. Moral here being not to lose hope, and that even after almost 8 months on the waitlist miracles can indeed happen.

You're right it's in the letter attached.
I looked at my application the other day and found mistakes lol.
I also already have funding from FRQ so I guess it wouldn't be the end of the world if both Vanier and SSHRC reject me

Hey everyone, I just want to say that you should take care of yourselves. I remember how excruciating it was waiting. If I could do it again, I'd try to focus more on my work and less on an outcome I had no control over. I know it's easier said than done, but I regret how much energy I put in to thinking about the results. Just know that regardless of what happens, you're all impressive scholars. And remember that the process is subjective and depends heavily on who you have reviewing your application, so it's a bit of a gamble. Anyways, March 30 will come sooner than you think and try to make the most of your time until then. Take care.

They will send you an email saying that your ResearchNet status has been updated to Decision Available. Then, you log in onto ResearchNet and you see the decision/if you have an offer.

Heard back from Western that I'm advancing. Guess they just missed the end-of-term deadline, but they sent it on one of the first days back.
