  1. There was an acceptance from the UMD Information Systems PhD program posted on the survey. Has anyone else heard back? Does anyone have any info on interviews and timelines?
  2. EDIT: Never mind, I should actually read the OP. Anyway, one of the biggest things I'm looking for is alumni placement. Life continues after your dissertation. This is especially important if you're looking to stay in academia after you finish.
  3. So it looks like Cornell ORIE results are coming in? Does anyone know if they send out all of their admit emails at once or if they do it on a case-by-case basis?
  4. Ooh, thanks for the info. Hopefully I'll be in grad school by September, but just in case ...
  5. I would think so, since it provides them with more information, and if there are deadlines you have to meet for another program then they'll be more inclined to work with your schedule. If this isn't the case (e.g., you haven't heard back from anywhere), then maybe you should just wait it out a bit longer.
  6. It looks like Cornell already did interviews for their Information Science PhD program a couple weeks ago. Has anyone heard back? And do you know if no interview => rejection?
  7. Rule of thumb is if it's because you've gotten acceptances to other schools or you have job offers and you need to make a decision, you should, but if it's just because you're being impatient and you're still waiting on other programs, you shouldn't.
  8. Similar question: As a "backup/safety" plan, I think I'll apply to programs that accept students in the spring. I'm thinking UIC Stats, but does anyone have other suggestions?
  9. Heh, thanks. We'll see ...
  10. http://stat-or.unc.edu/graduate-admissions/frequently-asked-questions-about-the-graduate-admissions-process Yeah, this started out as a "reach" program and it's drifting more and more into that territory by the day ...
  11. So I'm guessing no word (at least not yet) from the two that posted results? Do you know if the separate tracks have different admit processes and slots? I'm guessing not. And I noticed that past acceptances seem to suggest late Feb to mid March with no mention of interviews. Hm ... Oh, and I recall their website saying that they typically admit 12 students with around 800 applicants (I'm guessing this is across stats, OR, and INSTORE).
  12. Machine learning. I'm particularly surprised because the posts on the Survey indicate that they received acceptance emails back in January. If they sent them out that early, then I'd think that they'd have made all of their decisions (rejections, waitlists, and possibly a second round of admits?) within another week or two.
  13. So @ghjk I'm guessing still no contact from UNC INSTORE?
  14. I have the ultimate contingency plan: If I don't get in anywhere I'll just keep my job and not take an 80% pay cut! It doesn't help with my nerves and panic attacks.
  15. Thanks for the info. This must be the mid-February invitational event mentioned on the website. Also, obligatory: Congrats and good luck!
  16. Looking at the Survey makes me wish I applied to CMU Stats/ML, CU Boulder CS, UMD AMSC, and Cornell ORIE. Why didn't I apply to more programs???
  17. I had a bit of a breakdown at work today. Thankfully it was during my lunch break and I had a moment to compose myself ... before going back to my desk and checking GradCafe, my email, and application statuses again. Usually I have these after work. It's getting pretty bad ...
  18. Wow, no acceptances to Stanford ICME reported to the Survey ... Well, there's one, but it wasn't by the person accepted. There were three posted last year and three the year before that. Must be a tough cycle.
  19. Has anyone heard back from NYU? Their website says that the admitted students event is tentatively scheduled for mid-February.
  20. To be fair, NYU doesn't have a real statistics department.
  21. Just got an email from Stanford ICME: "The decision has been posted in the online application system. Please log into your "Application Activity Status Page" to find your decision letter." But ApplyWeb doesn't say anything new ... EDIT Now there's a letter on ApplyWeb. "We regret to inform you that despite your impressive record, the committee was unable to recommend you for admission to the program." Super bummed despite this being a super reach school and my attitude going into this whole application/admissions process ("If I don't get in anywhere I'll get to keep my job and not take an 80% pay cut lololol"). Excuse me while I sulk at my desk for a week.
  22. @ghjk How do you know when acceptance letters will be sent or how many students a program is taking on? I need that sweet insider info! Oh, and any word on UNC INSTORE?
  23. Has anyone heard back from the UMD iSchool PhD program? It seems like from previous years' results interviews start mid-January and acceptance letters start early February.
  24. If the person who posted the acceptance to the UNC INSTORE PhD program reads the boards, may I ask for a bit more info? Did you have an interview prior to the acceptance email? If not, have you spoken with the faculty? Do you know how many students they're accepting? Have they sent out all of their acceptance emails or should we be expecting another round of emails? Did you attend a top tier undergrad program? What was your major? Do you have a master's degree or industry experience? Are you published? Thanks ... And of course, this is obligatory: Congrats!
  25. The uncertainty is killing me. All I know so far is: Two of the schools I applied to have events for potential grad students mid-Feb. One school I applied to has already sent out their (at least first batch of) acceptances and I haven't heard back. Two schools have already conducted interviews with some students and I haven't heard back. The one school I had an interview at basically said at this point my chances sit at around 20% (1 spot with ~5 interviewees).
