  1. No problem. That's crazy that you haven't heard anything yet!!! What the heck?! Hopefully tomorrow morning?
  2. Just checked webadvisor to answer your question- nope.. My webadvisor hasn't updated with my accepted status, even though I was offered my spot and sent my letter accepting my position in the program over a week ago. I can't believe you haven't heard one way or another!!! edited to add: when I was waitlisted last cycle, it didn’t get off the awaiting dept review until Oct 2017. It went to denied admission at that point, well into the second semester of the program. So, I am not putting too much faith in that to change.
  3. Make sure your shadowing includes school SLP, if possible. Don’t just shadow children with autism. I have several spectrum students on my caseload, but I also have 9 students of various ages who have Down’s syndrome. (My Down’s students are awesome but laaaawd working on articulation is challenging at times. It will never be perfect, but I will take highly intelligible to unfamiliar communication partners- I can only do so much and I’m battling with structural issues) One student has a rare genetic deletion disorder (we just want him to communicate), 3 fluency cases, 2 lateral lisp cases. I’m a school based SLP-A and just accepted to graduate school. Make sure you have a lot of experience shadowing SLPs who have a variety of disorders, etc.
  4. Oh, and if y’all are looking to apply for ENMU, the only full-time SLP in my district graduated from there in May. She did the distance program, as she didn’t want to drive to Portales from Clovis for class. I can always share what I’ve been told as well.
  5. Thank you. That’s a nice-ish way to reject someone... I guess? I’m sorry, you said you’re school based, so I’m sure your work week was super stressful. Kids have been NUTS! We get out half day on the 21st, but the week will be full of benchmarks and semester tests. So I will see who I can around all of that, make sure my Medicaid is done and attempt to organize the hot mess known as my speech room. Y’all. It’s so messy. I haven’t had any time to organize or do anything. It’s driving me crazy! I would keep trucking and not give up! If you can, take the GRE again. I bought the study guide that was made by ETS. It helped me the most. I studied all portions, including the writing. I didn’t my first attempt and I went from a 4 to a 5. Since TWU looks at the last 60 hours, it’s possible for you to take a few community college courses to boost your GPA. As far as the letter of intent, those of us not in your application cycle may be of help. I didn’t use huge, fancy $5 words. Nope. I did use words such as academic vs school and the like, but I didn’t want to be too over the top and cloud my central message.
  6. What did they say in your message? I’m so sorry. If you wish to reapply in the future, Im sure several of us here will be more than happy to help any way we can. I know when the cycle 11 starts up I will check in and update as a student, if helpful for anyone who may want to apply. Sometimes that can help someone decide if that’s a good fit or not. As someone who was always waitlisted, it’s not any easier, as it’s always a dang waiting game, hoping and praying someone will decide not to attend up until they start. You never hear anything and i would almost prefer a rejection so I could move on.
  7. Ok. So since I’m a creeper for y’all, I looked at the detailed academic calendars for TWU. They have been holding commencement in Denton 12/14-15. Final grades are due for those not graduating on the 17th. If you don’t hear back and want a human, call the 17th before later afternoon. That would be my suggestion because I’m sure once grades are in some may be gone until Jan 7-8th. Last cycle I called too late and had to wait until January to talk to Mrs. Moorer-Cook. It was my first day back to work, but it was staff only, so it wasn’t interrupting any groups. I mean, I knew I was waitlisted but I wanted to know why and how to improve my application the next time.
  8. Oh ok! Oh no on ENMU. I hope so. Although I know where I stand I am going through it with y’all! I’ve been there and I hate it. I mean, God willing, we will be ‘together’ for the next couple of years!
  9. Ohhhh ok. I haven’t heard of that program. If I didn’t get in at TWU I was going to apply for ENMU. I am close enough to drive over for the required on-campus practicum in the clinic for the first semester, but I’m thankful I am not having to do that. Hopefully they will let you guys know soon. I figure they have pretty much heard back from most everyone on Thursday, but may have a few hold outs that haven’t said anything either way in some regions. If y’all haven’t heard by Monday noon I would be tempted to call.
  10. I wonder! Where did you get waitlisted at if you don’t mind?
  11. They may be, but it is your future. I have a feeling they know one way or another. Like there’s a “list” and they haven’t sent the rejections yet because they may not have been sure as to how many wait list spots to have per region. It wouldn’t make sense to have 30 waitlist spots for 1-2 spots. They will probably send the the rest of the acceptance letters, maybe 1 wait list per spot per region next and last may be rejections. Idk. Last cycle everyone found out at the same time from what I recall
  12. No problem! I figured keeping y’all in the loop would be helpful! I figured since she sent us that email she was getting a ton of calls and emails making sure they received it. In fact, I was about to call and email today between sessions to make sure they had it. She just happened to let us know before I had a chance. I’m guessing they’ve probably heard back from everyone/nearly everyone that they’ve sent acceptance letters to so the next round of correspondence should go out in the next few days. Keep me posted!
  13. Hopefully not much longer for y’all that are waiting. We (those who accepted the offered spot) got a message from Ms Tomlinson that our acceptance letters have been received. Soooo I’m sure those who haven’t sent it in yet got a reminder. Y’all may check today or tomorrow since they are processing the acceptance letters that have been sent in. Hopefully they are sending the next round within the next few days.
  14. Exactly! I found out the hard way on how it can make or break you... . That was the bigger factor in one of my denials. I decided to reapply, carefully read the prompt and stick to it. I did that and had 3 people read my SOP letter and I am in the program this go around. I didn't change anything as far as my stats on GRE or GPA..my recommenders were pretty much the same or said the same thing. The only difference was the SOP letter.
  15. Study study study the GRE. For. Sure. I was told working as a SLPA helps, not sure how much because I’m on my 4th year and I just got accepted after my 4th round of applying with a 3.8 GPA, 155 V 150 Q 5 writing. I also only applied to 2 programs and they can basically have their pick of the litter. I would most definitely recommend looking for schools that take the last 60 hours of college credit, which means you can go to a community college and take some courses to boost your overall GPA, because for those programs they are looking for the overall GPA of those last 60, regardless what the courses are. Do well on GRE, make great friends with your SLP coworkers, if you’re at a school- special education director (one of my recommenders) and show your SLP who supervises you that you’ve got what it takes to become a SLP. Ask to observe assessments, etc.
  16. I hope so!!! I seriously thought about skipping out of applying this time. ?. I am so glad that I went ahead and gave it one last shot. I seriously was like I can’t keep paying out this kind of money for a waitlist and never get off it. I am still just ??? over it. I didn’t tell hardly ANY one I applied. I only told the people I asked for recommendations, my best friend and my husband (of course!). Now that I’ve been accepted I’ve basically shouted it from the rooftops. Some were like omg why didn’t you tell me... I didn’t tell ANY one that wasn’t on the need to know list because it kept my personal stress level down... but I didn’t realize how much I was truly stressing over it because once I got the news I was SO relieved and instantly a wave of relaxation came over me. I was like well maybe I was more stressed than I thought! Prayers and good vibes!!
  17. Yes.. the TWU gmail account. I don't even know what made me check it last week other than something picked at my mind and I thought what the h*ll, it's a week away. It was probably a good thing I checked it that night rather than earlier in the day when I initially started thinking about it; I was WAY too happy to care on Friday (day after)... I would have been like Oh, do whatever kids.. I don't care today, I got amazing news ?. Some of my students have already started asking if I am going to be their speech therapist next year.. I just tell them I hope so, but not 100% sure on that as caseload assignments may change with grad school.
  18. I hope you get the good news soon. I am the type who is like tell me one way or the other and don't keep me hanging!
  19. Good thing you got an answer-ish. Too bad they wouldn’t just be like yes, you’ve been accepted. I guess I was one of the lucky ones to get told now rather than wait forever! Keep praying!
  20. That’s not good. I would definitely leave VM and a follow up email.
  21. They made it VERY clear in our mandatory meeting - I went to the first one- that they’ve had such a problem with individuals going through the program to leave immediately after finishing for home health or hospital jobs. They also stressed to us that the speech world is a small one and basically skipping out right after graduation and leaving school setting is a great way to earn a negative reputation because you affirmed you would remain in the schools and skipped out on it. I flat out said “ I appreciate your time and consideration for admittance to your distance program. I am the mother of two children in elementary school and will remain employed in the school setting throughout their academic careers.” I also said the program will enable me to obtain the necessary education that I desire and need in order to become a proficient speech-language pathologist.
  22. Last cycle they let waitlisted people know the same day as acceptances. We have to have our acceptance turned in by the 15th, so I would assume that once they know who accepted/declines they will let whomever they’ve waitlisted know something. I don’t know if they are doing multi-round acceptances or not. Usually when you apply to a program they let people know if there will be an early acceptance or if it is one round and they move to the waitlist. Have you inquired as to your status via phone? I usually get more of a response when I call places vs relying on email.
  23. Laura Moorer-Cook called me back (I left a VM for her) and she told me I had 1 mechanical error and my Q score was lower than most in my region. She also told me next cycle to dial back on “why I want to be a SLP” as it is redundant for the most part unless someone has an extremely memorable reason and state “this is why their program is the one for me”, which I did. She asked me if I had any interest in hospital/ skilled nursing, which I don’t, and I made it clear to her that Im in this setting for the long haul- my kids are young and I want summers with them. I laid it all out there this time, the length of time I’ve been employed as a SLPA with the same district (showing stability) and that this program was created for students like me and that I have children in early elementary, which makes working in the schools top priority for me. I also had 3 people read my statement of purpose letter to check on errors and editing for clarity.
  24. I’m sorry y’all. I have been in the same boat since graduating with my UG at Tech. They waitlisted me 2x. I was also waitlisted for TWU cycle 9, just improved my letter of intent and pretty much laid out the facts surrounding work (new SLP everyyear due to high work demand and we are basically the only therapy my students have access to). It was my only chance for them to understand “me” and I did make sure to point out I have 2 small children and want to remain school-based until they graduate. Probably didn’t hurt that after I was waitlisted last time that I placed a call to the speech dept to inquire as to how to strengthen my packet the next go around.
  25. Nope. I sent in my acceptance on 12/7 and responded to an email sent at 8:17 to Paula chance regarding that I sent my acceptance last week to Ms Tomlinson, however I have not gotten confirmation that it was received. Apparently several individuals emailed both ladies regarding observation and/or practicum hours and how to complete the question on the acceptance form. Mrs chance instructed us to just send in the acceptance this week and they will go through the files to let us know who is missing what.
