  1. Oh wow. I’m so glad you kept pushing on. Have you formed a group yet on Facebook?
  2. Thank you and keep us all updated!! I’m rooting for you! I was salty AF when I didn’t make it last cycle. Seriously. I don’t blame you! Feel free to always hit me up if you need anything!!
  3. Oh no!!!!!! I’m so sorry about this. That stinks so much. Don’t let this discourage you from getting your master’s.
  4. Welcome! Congratulations!! Yes, please let me know about a Facebook group!!! I’m alllll the way up in region 17- Lubbock.
  5. Congratulations!!!! I’m from region 17! See y’all in Denton!!!!
  6. Hallelujah!!!!! Congratulations! See you in Denton!!!!!! Come on kick-off week!!!! Oh and if you read your admissions letter like 500 times making sure it doesn't change or something... that is so normal! I know I've done it... and I am still doing it! :
  7. I’m not sure. My first SLP supervisor was a professor there. She said it was a good program, just you have to live in the Amarillo/Canyon area. I mean, I haven’t been over to the area in a LONG time. I’m in Lubbock (TTUHSC) is where I did my UG. I think most people want to go to TTUHSC and then ENMU as their second choice in the area, and overlook WTAMU. But my supervisor said it was a good program- I trust what she says. I am starting TWU online in May. I have to work (married with kids... lots of financial responsibilities) so I can’t afford to quit or I would have probably gone there. I admit I forgot about them until someone talked about WT in general at work. TTUHSC is super competitive, but a great program.
  8. Tech is super competitive. That’s where I did my undergrad. West Tx in Amarillo, Lamar, Abilene Christian. Depends on if you have to stay in the area. All of those programs are on-campus. I know TTUHSC you can’t work while in the program. Not even as a SLP-A. You have classes and clinic during the time you would work elsewhere. I would say high GPA (most the ones that got accepted no waitlist) in my UG class had solid 4.0 GPAs, GRE V and Q above 150, 4.0 on writing. No letters of rec but you do have to interview. Sherry is very nice but intimidating at first.
  9. Yes, they are still there! I am not even sure how they are doing things this cycle. Last time (cycle 9), I was sent a notification that I was on the waitlist the same day that acceptances and denials were sent out. I was then told that they would let me know if anyone declined the offer by early January; they gave a date but I don't remember off-hand. After that date, I was sent a message by Dr. Moorer-Cook that at the time all of the spots were filled, but they would let me know if one opened up for any reason, and pending that I could secure a sponsorship (not hard, my district is sponsoring me and they need me to go) I would be notified. Unfortunately, nothing opened up before the first of May, so I wasn't in. I never received an official denial, webadvisor was advised of the denial 8/26/16 (long after the program started), but they didn't update it online until 10/10/17.... so yeah.... IDK what they are doing this time. NOTHING is making sense!!!
  10. They should be done auditing accepted student files, which it makes sense to me to move to the rest of the stack of students- the accept or decline stack. I wonder if they are doing it differently this time to avoid a waitlist or having too many on the waitlist. Penny emailed me at 8:23 to answer a question I had about when the latest my transcript showing I've taken the chemistry course needed to be there- right before kick off, and to ensure she received my scan of my university-directed observation hours. I would think they should be making final decisions before they leave for the holidays though.
  11. I don’t think anyone does it that way really. You need the year of leveling courses and those need to be halfway completed at least before applying for graduate school, with you finishing those with at least a B in the courses in progress before you begin your Master’s program. I haven’t heard of any program that offers it that way. Look at ASHA’s EdFind website and go from their listings of programs. There might be one but I don’t think anyone really does that. It’s super competitive to get into grad school for speech pathology.
  12. Okay, first of all, I am sorry for you loss! That's absolutely terrible for you to go through. I understand about the letters of recommendation; I was pregnant, married and in my late 20s at the time I went through undergrad. I actually opted to NOT level and obtained a secondary bachelor's degree in CDS due to a recommendation from a school-based SLP who is now a clinic instructor. Anyways, I was known as "the pregnant one" because I was literally pregnant both years of CDS courses. I did well in the courses, but still, they remembered me as "the pregnant one". If you're able, it may be worthwhile during the class break, preferably after Christmas/New Years and before classes resume, stop by and give some face-to-face interaction. Remind them of who you are, see if anyone can chat for a moment, etc. May help to reach out via email prior to dropping by, but if you can, offer to drop by or skype call so they can put a name to the face. That is a key for a lot of people. In the meantime, research the schools in your area, see what the incoming graduate class average was for GPA and GRE and whether or not there are minimum requirements. That will be make or break for some folks right there. If you need to re-take the GRE, I highly suggest studying the ETS books. They make the test and I found those the most helpful. I currently work as a SLP-Assistant in TX. The graduate program I am starting in May requires me to have my SLP-Assistant license, as well as a school-sponsorship/placement. I'm in my 4th school year in the same district, so I've got that covered. I know my grad program (Texas Woman's University) is the only one who requires that, but my experiences and knowledge I've gained on the job will help out a LOT in grad school. A good friend of mine is about to complete the program and she told me that working as an assistant prior to grad school is a huge help. If anything, you will get your feet wet and everything you learned in UG will come back!
  13. Okay, they are processing admitted student's 'missing' items/what needs to be submitted. For example, I need to send them verification that I completed my 25 clock hours of observation at a university. (I did @ TTUHSC) and I need to take chemistry or physics before May 26 2019. So, that's being handled now...
  14. HA... I know right? Last week, before I heard back that my form was received, I actually sent myself an email from work to TWU email to make sure it was working. So if you've even done that, it's OK!
  15. Probably!!! Oh man... and kids are CRAZY at my school! My older kids are in the PM... and they are finishing up STAAR benchmarks... JOY. My jr high and HS kids are reviewing for semester tests that they will have Wed and Thurs... so I'm like MEH.... I think I will just hide and do Medicaid... and progress notes. Maybe tackle this hot mess of a room.. Not sure on the room part, but I really have to have Medicaid done by Wednesday so my SLP can approve of them. She didn't mention PNs but I just want them done so I don't have to mess with them in January when we return. I wonder if Mrs. Tomlinson is hiding... I would! Good luck, prayers, vibes and juju!!!! I will keep checking on y'all... I am wanting to know who's going to be at kick-off in May!
  16. Oh okay! I have a friend who is attending Cycle 9 and she is in Region 18. My mom worked for 24 years in Andrews, also region 18! I hope they let the rest of y'all know ASAP! I am surprised someone hasn't called yet to find out since they were supposed to say something by Dec 15. I mean, I was shocked to find out a week early.
  17. I am DYING here to find out! I can't even friggin imagine you!!!! Bless sweetie! Call 'em today... FOR sure! I mean they were supposed to have told you something by now... UGH! ? I know I am freaking annoying, but the suspense is KILLING me..and I already know. I am still in this with you... because I guess I torture myself?! I am just at work... seeing students at random... while STAAR benchmarks are going on around us... and slowly filing the last 2 weeks of Medicaid. I mean it's not hard but it's just BORING. I know... get used to paperwork. I just have a case of the 'I don't wannas'.... I think I got it from the kids. Come on Friday... we get out at noon for Christmas until we come back Jan 7. I really need to do Medicaid and progress notes before Friday. My supervisor wants to approve my medicaid before Wednesday.... so I will continue to check on you! I'm still praying for you to get good news!!!
  18. Any word yet y’all? Who is going to be in Denton for kick off week with me?!?! Anyone?!?!
  19. Oh goodness! I was complaining about the $150 I paid out when I first got my SLPA licensure! I’m in Texas and as long as you have a BS or BA in CSD you’re pretty much good. The universities offer at least the SLP- supervised 25 hours of observation, few if any offer 25 hours of supervised direct therapy with a client. I completed that on the job. If you don’t have it in Tx, you complete a deficiency plan and submit the hours to the state within 90 days (I think that’s how long I had to complete my direct therapy) and you’re a licensed assistant. You can remain a licensed assistant for an indefinite amount of time, pending you always comply with keeping the state updated with your SLP supervisor and renew your licensure for $100 every 2 years. In some states like New Mexico, there isn’t an assistant licensure. You’re an apprentice and have 2 years to become a SLP or in a graduate program. There’s currently not a renewal of that licensure, although I’ve heard they are considering to remedy that by allowing assistants to try to alleviate the lack of SLPs.
  20. I know it's an old thread but, I found that buying the ETS books helped me the most. I went from a 4 to a 5 on AW after studying the writing portion, raised my other two scores a decent amount. I found them on eBay for 30.00 new!
  21. Depends on how flexible you are. Your handle says Iowa, so are you going to have to stay in the Iowa area or are you looking to leave the area if you need to for school? ASHA's EDfind is a pretty decent starting point, as they do list GPA, GRE averages for the accepted students and will list if there are minimums for the program's GPA or GRE. I know East Carolina University (it's in North Carolina) will def. take that GRE, not sure on the GPA, as I looked at their program a couple of years ago, but it was going to be tough to swing it for me with my job here in Tx and their on campus clinical practicum; it wasn't an issue as to me going there and staying-my in-laws are from NC and would have LOVED having us for the summer, but the timeline and my contract for my school-based SLP-A job weren't going to mesh. The program I just got accepted into (TWU distance cycle 10) looks at the last 60 college hours. I already have one master's degree in special education, so very little of my speech language and hearing sciences courses counted in the 60 hours, which worked out as one of those semesters in undergrad was tough (had a baby and had more B's than A's). So what it all boils down to is are you going to have to stay in your current area or are you able to leave if need be? If you're worried about your GPA, you can always apply to programs that look at last 60 hours, which will def. take into account the CSD courses, along with your previous bachelor's degree hours. If you need to knock off a semester of not-so-great grades, make sure you take some easy for you courses at a community college (cheaper) but enough to fulfill the 60 hours to knock off that whole semester. You can't just take part of some courses from a semester, it's an all or nothing when they do it that way, so make sure you take enough classes if you need to boost your GPA so you don't have to count a low semester of grades.
