nervous_nellie got a reaction from alwaysapplying in Fall 2017 Waitlist Thread
I think you are truly being selfish holding onto that many offers. You need to make a list and rank them and let go of something. You are holding onto spots that people are waiting for. People who don't have any accpetances and are waiting for your spots.

nervous_nellie reacted to Clinapp2017 in Fall 2017 Clinical Psychology Applicants
Well, the range of programs I applied to had 100 to 700 applications. For the 100 application program, the accpetance rate is actually about 20% (it's not clinical - it's HDFS). All other programs I applied to were clinical programs. I'd say the interviews have to be intensive because these programs are investing in you, so they really want to be sure they are talking the 8-10 applicants out of hundreds who they want to work with and who they think will bring the best name to the program during their studies and in their future endeavours.

nervous_nellie reacted to Clinapp2017 in Fall 2018 Hopeful... look at my CV and tell me what you think
I'd say you have a pretty strong application assuming your General GRE scores turn out well. Do you have any pubs or poster presentations at conferences? That would be beneficial and show your commitment to research vs just clinical work.
That being said, I think the Statment of Purpose you write will need to tie all of these experiences together and explain why clinical psych phd is the next logical step. A strong SOP is really what put me over the top (so says my new mentor anyways), so I think that's what separates the successful applicant from the pool of very very very qualified people.

nervous_nellie got a reaction from HigherEdPsych in RA position question
I was in a similar position when I first graduate from college (almost 3 years ago). I was debating between accepting a job offer as an RA or going to get my master's in general psychology. I was told by multiple people that obtaining the master's wasn't worth the debt that you leave with. It was more beneficial to work for 2ish years and then apply for doctoral programs.
I ended up taking the position and working as an RA for the past 2 1/2 years and just finished applying/interview for clinical phd programs. I was more successful and a strong applicant than I would have been with a just my bachelor's degree. I was able to work and get real-world experience for the future.

Hey there! I noticed that you've created quite a few threads asking the same question. Would you mind deleting repeat threads and just bumping (replying to your own thread so it appears at the top of the thread list) in order to reduce clutter?
To answer your question, i've received and acceptance but declined the offer last week. Hope that helps!

nervous_nellie got a reaction from HopefullyDr in Re-applying to clinical psychology phd programs
For the GRE- if you have the money available I would recommend taking a GRE course. I took a Kaplan course and my scores significantly increased
For the Personal Statement- I used it as a way to express my current research interests and relevant experiences. I used it as a way to tie together my research experiences from college until now. The most important feedback was that I needed to make sure to expand on the skills that could apply to graduate work and not just simply list experiences. It was important to expand on how the things that I have been doing will translate well into a graduate school environment.
If there was more than one POI at a program I made sure to list all of them as well as the connection between my research interests. Don't just put names in your statement to have more than one person... only really include POI's who are doing research that you can make a strong argument for.
Good luck

I would say generally around late August/September!

nervous_nellie got a reaction from bubble_psych in Re-applying to clinical psychology phd programs
This is my first application cycle. I applied to 10 schools, interviewed at 4 and have been accepted to 2 programs (waiting on 1 more) and wait listed at another. The most important part of my applications was finding schools/mentors who's interests strongly aligned with my current and future interests. Having publications, posters, high gap is going to get you an interview, but really showing your interests through your statement is crucial. Take time to really strengthen what you are putting on your CV by highlighting skills that you can apply to graduate/professional career.
Good luck with your future endeavors

nervous_nellie reacted to Courtney Whited in Stillwater, OK
Hello everyone, I am started a graduate program in English literature in Fall 2017, and one of the schools I am considering attending is Oklahoma State University in Stillwater, Oklahoma. While I have traveled, I've only ever lived in Knoxville, Tennessee.
I am just looking to see if anyone has advice about Stillwater, can tell me about the cost of living, give me a bit of information about the town's aesthetic, what there is to do, and the type of people that (generally) live there. I want to make sure that my personality is a good fit for the environment and that I'll be able to make a group of friends when I get there.

nervous_nellie reacted to FacelessMage in Clinical Psychology admissions
GPA isn't everything when it comes to clinical admissions. If you have high GRE's along with a high GPA and strong research experience, then you'll be a good candidate. I was a bit over the minimum for UNB and I was still accepted, but I also had high GRE scores and a few pubs.

A question for those applying in the fall - when is a good time to email your POI? I was thinking September/October, but wasn't sure.

Sorry, I missed the part about waiting for funding. But you should be able to decide once you receive funding.

nervous_nellie reacted to fuzzylogician in How to turn down offers
You don't need to justify anything; you just say thank you, you appreciate the opportunity, but you are leaning another way. You wanted to let them know as soon as possible so they can move on to others on the waitlist, if relevant. Even if you did know what you were doing, I would still advise not to get into details of funding or fit, at least not in the initial email. If someone wants to follow up and ask about how you came to your decision, you might consider explaining.

School: Oklahoma State University
Program: Clinical Psychology
Date of Notification: 2/41/17
Method of Notification: Email from DCT/POI
Thoughts: I am very excited to have received an offer. I was uncertain going on the interview if I would like the program/location because I am from the east coast. I loved everything about the school including the program, the current graduate students, and most importantly my POI. I have one more interview, but I am most likely going to accept this
