I admire you for being so driven and applying to so many schools! I found the application process so mentally challenging and exhausting so congratulations on applying to four. I am hoping you will receive good news from one of the three schools left!

Also got the Dal acceptance letter - they sent one via email either this morning or last night as well, so if you don't have access to your mail right now or things seem slow definitely check there!

I tried using a college instructor as my academic reference when applying to my BSW, (he had an MSW and taught me several classes (including my placement seminar) and I was made to switch it for a former university professor within a very short timeframe... I think it depends on what school you're applying to, but I would try using a university prof just to be safe!

By the way, I've heard good things about Carleton, and of course Ottawa is beautiful  congrats!

No problem!  Glad to help   After MUCH consideration, I decided to go with Carleton.  They offered me a great funding package, and while it doesn't have the prestige of U of T, the location and the program structure works better for me.  Plus money is kind of a thing for me right now!  I'm not entirely sure I made the right decision (lol), but it seemed like a better fit.  All the best to you!

U of T wants an answer by March 19th (for me anyway).  My letter was dated Feb 19/19 and they want an answer within four weeks of the letter.  Hope that helps!  Also, I'm turning down my offer there as I've been offered funding elsewhere so there will be a spot open!  Best of luck

I attended Dal's BSW. I enjoyed it, however it was very social justice and research-oriented and not very practical. I have heard the MSW is a lot more practical though. I've heard really good things about Waterloo's MSW, which is very clinical. So it really depends what you're looking for.

Also got waitlisted! Kind of a bummer given how confident I was about getting in, but in agreement with what some other folks have said that at least it's some form of an answer and can now carry on processing and exploring other options/keeping some fingers crossed for movement on the list.

I got wait listed too.. but I'm kinda happy about it.. it is better than nothing. U of T is an incredibly competitive school.

Everyone who still hasn’t heard yet about the advanced standing u of t MSW... I’ve been told by someone who applied two years ago that there are two rounds of acceptances before we hear about the waitlist.... so that’s nice to hear! Hoping it’s true! ????

I'm in the same boat as you. As far as I know, there are two rounds of acceptances, and then the waitlist. A friend of mine got informed in the end of March that she was on the waitlist, and ended up getting accepted off the list. It's discouraging having to wait so long, but we still have plenty of time

Yes! I did a two year post-degree BSW at Dalhousie after a BA in psych (they have an online version, I did it on campus though). Also, I believe UVic and University of Manitoba have online BSWs as well.
I know though, that at Dal you need to do a week or two on-campus at the beginning (summer)...

@veecee I should've clarified that I'll be applying to the Advanced Standing (1 year) programs that require a BSW and social work experience! I'm assuming you'll be applying to two year degrees? Your education and experience sounds really interesting! The fact that you got accepted into that MSW program in Berlin says something, so give yourself the credit you deserve  I think your experience in Asia is quite relevant to social work, especially in terms of access to services in rural or possibly lower income areas. I'd recommend you do some reading on environmental racism if you haven't already!

    Thanks!
I think getting your BSW is a great idea, but you're right, it could get a bit stressful applying to grad school while starting. Try to be kind and take care of yourself, and hopefully it won't be too overwhelming  Hopefully this forum will be supportive for all of us this year!
I actually just started a new part time job this week, in addition to my current part time job and volunteering (social work/mental health related)...... really hoping I'm not overdoing it, but I'm so ready to apply finally this year!
Do you (/anyone else here) mind sharing your work/volunteer/educational experience with the group? Like I mentioned in my previous post, I have a BA in psych and soc, an SSW diploma, and BSW. I got a 3.6 GPA in my BSW, and got to do a research project in my second year with an on-campus food justice organization. As far as work, placement, and volunteer experience, I have almost 3000 hours in :community mental health case management, CRFs (halfway houses for people leaving prison), developmental disability day program, emergency shelter, a student-run health clinic, crisis phone lines, and with women re-entering the workforce. I am hoping to do my MSW with a mental health focus so I can hopefully work in a more clinical setting. I would eventually like to do mental health counseling.
I'm terrified, but also kinda excited for this application journey!

    Hi everyone!
Ive been following these forums for years, so it's exciting to finally get to say I'll be applying for my MSW for fall 2019! I'm planning on applying to UofT's advanced standing MSW (mental health/health stream), as well as Waterloo's online MSW, and possibly Laurier's online MSW as well!
I have my BA in psych and sociology, an SSW diploma, and BSW from Dalhousie. Both of the last two were very social justice oriented (which I believe is so important), but I'm now interested in a more clinical focus!
I'm starting to get nervous, but excited, as I just confirmed one of my references yesterday (aahhh ?)!!

I volunteered at a community centre in the Downtown Eastside in Vancouver (marginalized population) for over 3 years (1 day/week) and fundraised for them while going through my undergrad. Additionally I have been volunteering for a CourtWatch program that looks at the efficacy of the specialized domestic violence courts in Ontario. Though I am not as involved anymore since starting work full time, I continue to help them with compiling and analyzing data. I am also currently on the grant writing and marketing team for another non-profit whose main focus is to help those experiencing domestic violence. I have been told that U of T highly values research so if you can get any kind of research experience it would be a plus.

Long time observer, first time poster...I received a call this afternoon from Angela notifying me of my acceptance to U of T's 2-year MSW program. Good luck to everyone else still on the wait-list.
If this is helpful in anyway, you are able to send Angela and updated resume to highlight any additional activities you have completed since you first submitted your application. I began volunteering right after applying so I feel like this may have been a contributing factor to getting off the wait-list.

    Hi MSDOULBEU,
I found out by calling her and asking if there were any additional documents that we were able to formally submit (I know that some schools allow you to submit more references, etc.). She told me the only things you could submit was an updated transcript (which you knew) and an updated resume, if there is additional work/volunteer experiences you wanted to include. It does make sense if you consider that some applicants, like myself, have been out of school for a few years now. I sent my updated resume three days ago via e-mail to the admissions e-mail (which is also managed by Angela). Let me know if you have any other questions
