Thanks for this @thetemp!! It has been immensely helpful! I too am moving to Pittsburgh this fall and it's been a bit frustrating trying to figure housing out.

This is my first season and I applied to only one school - after a weeks of telling myself 'it is okay - I'll apply again next season & this time to more programs (I found GradCafe after I'd submitted my application)' because it looked like a definite rejection. Then 4 days later, I got an acceptance my first choice program! I sat for days in disbelief. I was actually terrified that I'd receive an eMail saying that they had retracted the offer because it was sent out in error. The day we were added to the PhD Admits mailing list, It was 1am, I danced around my room for a few minutes! Trying hard not to wake the whole house up I was finally able to celebrate...

Take heart. Like @HopingForMFA said 23 is young, you've still got time on your side (even though it doesn't feel like it right now). Take this time to work, build your portfolio. Keep in touch with the professor who recommended you, watch the different projects that the Media Lab is working on. Then apply again when you are ready. Don't give up!

@beeblebrox - Have you heard back from they yet? After several responses here, I just assumed that it is the normal admissions procedure for the application to go off. I checked the results page and it looks like decisions were sent over eMail in the past.
