  1. Congrats, @ed_applicant! NYU is a spectacular school.
  2. Sorry - I meant to ask that question to those who have been admitted. I heard that those who are about to be admitted get a couple of red "X"'s next to their transcript and such, but I don't know whether that's true or not.
  3. Congrats to all of those who've been accepted!!! Question for all of you - are you still seeing the red "X's" right before you're admitted, or are you not? Just wondering, as I think I'm supposed to hear sometime soon. Thanks for any and all info you can offer.
  4. @jaaaayciee Ever checked out Teach For All? It allows you to work overseas. http://teachforall.org/en/work_for_a_network_partner
  5. @jaaaayciee Yeah, pretty much, though you can technically leave. In any case, 2 years go by much more quickly than you think that they do. Do you know what you'd like to do in the long term?
  6. @jaaaayciee I attended grad school while I worked full time as a high school teacher. Honestly, I would highly recommend working while attending grad school. Have you ever considered Teach For America or the Teaching Fellows programs? Or, perhaps other programs, like Citizen Schools?
  7. TFA corps members and anti-TFA folks, as an alum of TNTP (the founder was a TFA alum, so the models are very similar), I think that people have a right to their opinions. TFA and TNTP have their flaws - we all know that. High turnover being one such issue and the intent of SOME entering corps members being another. But, there's also a lot of good in these programs. Let's just take those opinions with a grain of salt and not go on the defensive by pointing out how "offended" we feel about the use of certain words. Let's, instead, correct the misconceptions with objectivity. I'm not trying to play Pollyanna or mediator. I'm just saying that we're all too old for elitist mentalities or grievances (on both sides of the argument).
  8. @nikkimx Don't feel guilty about leaving your teaching job, if college is really what you want to teach. You ultimately have to follow your passion. I understand how difficult it can be emotionally, but, honestly, you have to do it. The only advice that I can give you is to be honest, but also grateful, to your principal and your department head. Believe me - principals and department heads understand that not all teachers can stay forever. If you've stuck it out for so long and helped multiple students to make monumental gains in academic achievement, you should be proud. There's a time of service, but there's also a time to leave. You ultimately have to do what's right for you. No matter what advice anyone gives you, I know you'll ultimately say what you want to say. I would strongly recommend you think of what you're most grateful to admin for and why you're leaving (in a way that doesn't trash talk your school, much in the same way that you'd discuss it in an interview). Feel free to PM me, if you wanna bounce around any ideas. I'm more than happy to help. On a side note, congrats on getting into those PhD programs!
  9. Has anyone received an e-mail to interview for admission to this program? Or, do you still think the adcom is reviewing applications?
  10. Did you have an interview before you were admitted?
  11. Congrats, ChipmOnk. When did you find out?
  12. Happy for you, harrar! Congrats! Let's hope that it's good news for all of us, too.
  13. Hey, everyone-- I'm posting because I wanted to ask how undergrad and grad GPA's are weighed at Top-15 ed schools for EdM admissions, assuming that you're more than 3-4 years out of undergrad. I know that GRE's are more of a qualifier for first-round admissions, while SOP's, resumes, and LOR's are much more important. Please let me know of your thoughts. Thanks!
  14. Yep, I mean in terms of GPA. I basically have 5 years at this point.
  15. Thanks, hopeful. Congrats on getting into those schools! Which program(s) did you apply for? Also, do you find that time passing between undergrad and grad app season means that your most recent degree matters more?
  16. Yep, I'm going for my second Master's. I'll PM you the programs I'm applying to. Long story. Thanks - let's hope. Fingers crossed. I see that your application season is also Fall 2017. Where are you applying/which programs are you applying to?
  17. Hey, chipmOnk. Thanks for your response and for the information. I believe the program I'm applying to interviews. If they do choose to interview me, should I expect it 3-4 weeks after the application has been submitted? Also, I think those stats are for one department, rather than for the whole institution.
  18. Anyone know the average GPA for admitted students?
  19. Shoot. I submitted mine on January 15 in the evening. Do you think it'll take longer for them to get back to me about scheduling an interview?
  20. Was your deadline January 15? I didn't submit my application until January 15.
  21. Hey. When did you apply? Did you apply by the December 15 or January 15 deadline?
