  1. Received a mass email from American University, as follows: "Dear Applicant,We appreciate your interest in American University's doctoral program in clinical psychology. I wanted to send a quick update about where we are in our admissions process. We are currently wrapping up our review of files, and we plan to send out interview invitations in the next week or two (these invitations will not likely all go out on the same day). Our interview days will be February 15th and 16th, with a student social on the evening of the 15th for all interviewing students. Thanks again for your interest in American University."
  2. Does anyone have any information on the following universities: Boston University (I know some invites have gone out, but all?) American Univerity St. John's Harvard
  3. I know this post was originally about counseling psych, but I did contact for clinical psych, in case anyone's interested. My post on another thread: "In case anyone has applied to University of Maryland (UMD) - College Park. Spoke with the Program Coordinator and she let me know all 1st round invitations have been extended. There is a possible 2nd round of invitations to be sent out mid-late February if you did not receive a 1st round invitation. But as she put it, it's only a potential 2nd round, meaning it's not for sure."
  4. A lot of people have options about the number of schools you should apply to. My opinion (and this is someone who has done this before any only applied to three, wasn't successful and was waitlisted) it depends on where you apply versus the quantity. If you apply to places you're not a good fit or only to really competitive programs, then that's bad. But you applied to a good range. I myself haven't gotten invites from 2/7 schools I know already have sent invites. One could send second round invites, so there's that. But most of the schools I've applied to send out invites later. Try to keep your chin up. It only takes one invite to interview and offer to get into a program. Sure, multiple invites are exciting and awesome but not everyone gets that. You also have to understand that this forum by nature is polarizing. You either see people excitedly getting a slew of invites and are spoiled for choice or those panicking with no invitations or only one or they're seeking information. It can give you a bias to the stress and anxiety side of things to see that "obviously" everyone is getting invites but me and then also make you anxious because others post about if anyone has heard from a university. Anyway, try to limit yourself to coming on here too often. It's tough to do, but it might help the stress.
  5. Boston U doesn't send out interview invites yet until late January. But as far as the other schools go, check here: https://thegradcafe.com/survey/index.php?q=clinical+psychology Also, to me, you applied to a good range of schools. I applied to 7. There are others who apply to more, but you have good experience and I wouldn't freak out yet.

  7. Has anyone heard from George Mason or know if all invites are out for Maryland - College Park?
  8. I agree with Becks. I haven't heard from a single school, but historically, every school I've applied to doesn't notify until early, mid- or late January. I have heard from one POI a couple days ago but just to tell me when that POI will be reviewing applications. That's at Teachers College. For those interested, interview notifications for these schools approximately come out at these times. These are just the schools I've applied to, of course, there's variability with some POIs doing things on their own. George Mason - early January UMD/Maryland College Park - early January American University - mid-January Boston University - late January Teachers College - late January Harvard - late January/early February St. John's - late January/early February
  9. Totally agree, just emailed but just said thank you and let them know I submitted. Also, I play trombone too!
  10. The deadline was yesterday, for reference. I submitted on Thursday.
  11. Okay, so there has been one professor I've been in contact with that actually asked for my CV and said he looked forward to seeing my application. I submitted on the 14th of December. Would it be good or bad to email him to let him know I submitted and perhaps reassert interest? I don't want to come off as annoying but I also want to be put on the top of the pile/not forgotten about. I last spoke to my POI a month ago.
  12. Thank you so much for your help! Yes! Five years for the GRE. My last scores were 2 years ago. But I am planning to study like crazy and improve my scores. In the past, I've only studied lightly. I have found this, but it puts GRE scores for psychology kind of low, in my opinion: https://magoosh.com/gre/2013/harvard-gre-scores/ https://magoosh.com/gre/2013/yale-gre-scores/ I would consider those ranges minimums at best. I have an excel spreadsheet too. A column for each school. But I need to add a column for what each application requires. I want to be seriously precise about what they're asking for as I don't want this to be a reason I'm turned down. I have reached out to a few potential mentors too (not all yet) and have gotten a decent response. I know it's controversial to do so, but I try to keep it brief. I do appreciate that now some universities are listing who is taking a student, so asking this question via email can be avoided. If you're up for it, would you mind messaging me privately to tell me where you're applying and vice versa? I'd be interested to chat about it.
  13. Thanks Becks for the link. I've already downloaded it! To answer your question, I am applying to Ivy League schools, three in fact. And 7 others are probably high-middle of the road and a couple of safeties (as safe as you can get in this field). I have looked for outcome data. For the safeties, I'm well above. Some don't provide them, some do. For Yale, for example. While I plan to apply, for 2015-16, their stats are of sight, especially with verbal: Verbal: 167 mean, 165 median (obviously this means that there are people who had a lower score). I wish they provided a min/max (some schools do). Quant: 162 mean and median. GPA: 3.82 mean. So while I'm applying to Yale, it seems like at least with GREs and GPA, it's a reach? I'm not sure if I'm deluding myself by applying. Harvard and Columbia, for example, don't share this data as far as I can tell. But I have seen Columbia's data from 2014-2015 once when I saw it posted somewhere and it was about 159 verbal and 154 math, so definitely lower. Harvard is probably more in line with the Yale stats above. I will definitely remove my research interests from my CV. I agree it makes more sense to have it in my statement. I plan to list my GPA for my masters as well as relevant graduate coursework. When looking into Maryland - College Park, they said they did not want GPA on submitted CVs (which is odd), but that's all I saw in regards to that.
  14. I am applying to clinical psychology doctoral programs (this is my 4th go). In the past, I only applied to two or three universities. This year I'm applying to at least 10. I've been waitlisted in the past, so I am doing everything I can to not have to go through this again. Here are my stats: Undergrad GPA: 3.6 Masters GPA: 3.84 GRE: 157/157/4.5 I have over five years of research experience, both as an RA and working fulltime. My concern, of course, is my GRE. I've heard of one faculty member at a high end (think ivy league) university who ruthlessly filters out applications if GREs are less than 160. That person could just be severe, but still, it settles to the back of my mind. So, my question is, is it worth it to take the GRE again? I am planning to in mid-November to attempt a better score with studying with Magoosh and the official GRE books. I think it is feasible to do better. Also, some misc. questions: Do you personally put your research interests on your CV? What about your GPA or course list (if you did a masters degree)? Does anyone know a good resource for personal statements specifically for psychology students? I did get feedback once that I need to be more specific about the specific program I'm applying to. The thing is, I already had devoted 4-5 sentences to it. Is there something special they're looking for in that regard? I have limits this year of 1000 words to as short as 500, so I don't know what magical thing I'm meant to say here. I've mentioned the model they use, the specific mentor and why etc., for example. Thank you for your help!!
  15. Wow, no. What was in the email? LOL.
