  1. Ah, I guess that time frame helps. I had one school refund me in about a month, so that's what I was thinking would be average. By "reluctant" I meant that when I inquired about it, they suddenly needed more proof about the items I submitted. It just felt like they were looking for reasons to not refund me the amount they said would be reimbursed. While I work at a university and have to deal with justifying my expenses a lot to get reimbursed, it's usually a pretty quick process of letting me know what they need. In this situation, there's a middle man which just makes it harder. I worry that if I'm not checking in, something will get missed or not done. The encounters I've had with the department have just left me slightly on guard. I appreciate your input and it's reassuring to know my decision shouldn't affect it!
  2. Thanks @DiscoTech and @ThousandsHardships I did respond to my offers as I narrowed them down for that exact reason. There's just one school that I plan to deny, but the school has been really reluctant to refund me the money I spent to visit (I received a recruitment scholarship to visit). I was just worried that they would make the process even more difficult if they knew I wasn't going to attend. That may just be in my head, but it has been such a difficult process that I want to avoid making it harder.
  3. If you applied and are accepted into multiple schools, when you accept one of the offers, are all of the schools alerted or able to see if you've made an admissions decision? I.e. I got into XYZ and UVW. I accept UVW, can XYZ see that I've accepted an offer? I can definitely share the background reason for this question, but it's not as shady as it seems, I promise
  4. I'm also thinking about UT Austin, Learning Technologies, and will be at the campus day next week. Did you hear anything about funding in your offer?
  5. Hey there! I was also accepted and am planning on attending the weekend event at the end of February. Have you heard anything about funding? Where does it rank on your list of schools?
  6. @texas_teacher The e-mail said it would be Monday, March 6th. If I get any follow up information this week, I will post it in here, too
  7. You'll have to keep me updated! I think I got in? It says I was recommended for Admission and my status is pending approval from the Office of Graduate Studies. Then it went on to talk about a welcome weekend and asking if I wanted to accept the offer of admission. My status changed in the portal to Admitted :-/ So I'm not sure if it's official or just almost official? It's just great to hear back. AND that their welcome weekend isn't the same weekend in February as every other school I applied to I hope you hear soon!
  8. @texas_teacher I just wanted to let you know I just received an e-mail from UT Austin, because I had been checking it non-stop. Hoping you've gotten one or are receiving one soon!
  9. @Caballita9287 Thank you so much and congratulations to you, too! What program in the School of Education are you interested in? Have you heard about any alternative options for students who can't attend the welcome weekend or if it just automatically eliminates you? I should contact my POIs, too. That's a great idea @texas_teacher I'm still waiting, too! I saw last year someone was notified February 1st...maybe today's the day? Or I could have just jinxed it Let us know if you hear anything!
  10. Out of 5 programs, I haven't heard from 2 yet, and I've been accepted to 1 (UMN) and invited to visit 2 (ASU & CU-Boulder). The 3 of them are doing the welcome/interview weekend the same week/weekend. I'm for sure going to ASU for the interview, however, CU-Boulder calls theirs a "Welcome Weekend," but says that they make their decisions AFTER it (hmmm). My issue is I already have ASU & UMN booked, and while CU-Boulder has a great school, the program isn't as closely aligned to my interests as the other schools I've applied to. I think at this point I have to e-mail them to say I can't make it but would love to Skype or do anything else I can to get to know them and vice versa--I just have a feeling that it's signing my rejection. Thoughts or has anyone heard anything about CU? It's so hard to pass up an opportunity, but it would be cutting it so close with the travel schedule.
  11. The only idea that came to mind is saying, "I remember seeing that you've done/are pursuing research on ____. How did you get started in that? What have you found out? Have there been any surprises along the way?" etc. I feel like that would be genuine without seeming too over prepared. Plus, if they're someone who shares a research interest with you, I think it's natural that you would remember what that is. Disclosure: this is coming from someone who hasn't done an interview yet
  12. I am in the same boat, too! I haven't heard anything yet, but keep obnoxiously refreshing my e-mail and checking on the results page. Have you heard anything about their funding options?
  13. I also applied there as they seem to have a really strong program, the research interests were close to mine, and I liked their funding options. I have an interview there at the end of February--I heard there are 17 people interviewing and they're choosing 11. I'm excited to visit and get the opportunity to interact with the faculty.
