Adelaide9216 replied to CafeteroJr's topic in Officially Grads
Also a first generation here! Thanks for this thread. -
External examiner was supposed to send comments on my thesis on March 19th. It's now March 29th. Still did not get anything and I need to submit the final version of my thesis by April 15. Arrrggghhhhh. I just want to know I passed

I did a public speaking workshop yesterday and it went really well, I made the crowd laugh a couple of times.

Thanks. I'm going through a rough phase again tonight. I find it hard, for real. And I feel ashamed and guilty at the same time because lots of people tell me they'd like to be in my shoes. But when I get sad, I re-read the replies to this thread. PS: I am now 26.

Other than the fact that it's a lot of money, I feel like when you get Vanier, you're taken more "seriously" as a student-researcher? Isn't that the case?

Well, I am a panelist at a event on April 6th. The organizers asked me to make a contest for people to win a pair of tickets, and they asked me to spread the word on my FB page. But I think they see me as more popular than I actually am, because nobody manifested their interest into taking part of the contest...it's a bit humiliating even. Argh. It means results will be available on April 1st at midnight in my opinion.

First article rejected. But I did get a few comments so I am going to try to apply them to the article and publish it in a less prestigious journal.

If you're a POC grad student, I highly recommend buying this book: The Black Academic Guide to Winning Tenure Without Losing your Soul. It's mostly for black academics, but a lot of it can be applicable to other POC.

I will be a PhD student at uOttawa (Ontario, Canada), next fall. But I would like to complete a semester abroad during my PhD, either in the UK or in the US. It would be after the coursework so in 2020 or 2021. My research topic is sexual violence in relation to online feminist movements. Do you know any female researcher who works on those two topics ? I am doing a bit of research on Google, so far I have identified three scholars (that are outside of Social Work) and one at Rutgers (in Social Work) that work precisely on these themes. Any help would be appreciated.

Hello, After reading The Black Academic Guide to Winning Tenure Without Losing your Soul, I have joined blackacademic.com in order to put some tools into place prior to starting my PhD program. They have an online forum, resources, tons of webinars. So far, it's quite helpful. I do admit it is a bit pricey, but I feel it's worth the investment. They give tools that are also applicable to any academics I recommend it.

My university asked me to give a public speaking workshop this Thursday and I am soooo nervous because I have never given workshops before.

ResearchNet is back, but nothing new on the portal in terms of a possible date for decisions announcement.
-
I don’t know any other direct login for Vanier.
