Early Modern Roll Call
punctilious replied to JustPoesieAlong's topic in Literature, and Rhetoric and Composition
He read The Good-Morrow. It's so beautiful! Similarly, his professor for the course was outstanding. I don't think he expected to enjoy transatlantic renaissance poetry as much as he did!- 30 replies

Early Modern Roll Call
punctilious replied to JustPoesieAlong's topic in Literature, and Rhetoric and Composition
Husband is not an early modernist (tbh I don't actually fully understand what time period that refers to), but I wanted to mention that he LOVES John Donne. He actually read a John Donne poem at our wedding (I cried when I first heard the poem so he had to read it at the wedding). I'm pretty sure he wrote an essay on John Donne in his transatlantic renaissance poetry course in college. Good luck to you!- 30 replies

Lol, I hear you on that one. We just need at least one acceptance over here, dang it! -

YAY! That's really awesome. Do you have a preference between English and Gender Studies, if you were given the choice of programs in both categories? -

Unless you never got the tentative interview request, which we did not! Pretty sure that ain't happening. We've already moved on from our Chicago woes. But congrats!!! -
MFA Creative Writing Acceptance/Rejection Letters
punctilious replied to Perszona's topic in Literary
Rooting you all on! My husband ultimately decided to only apply to English PhD programs, but he was heavily debating also applying to Creative Writing MFAs. And if he's shut out of the PhDs, he might try again for MFAs* (as he now has a short story publication under his belt!). GOOD LUCK! *We are aware, however, that MFAs are even harder to get into than the English PhDs. -

I'm personally loving my new signature line color scheme now that we have 'implied rejection' added for Chicago! Lol. -

Well technically my husband and I don’t work directly in politics/government, but I work for a non-profit that’s heavily involved in public policy (specifically immigration/women’s rights) and my husband works for a government contractor here in the DC area. Honestly I feel like jobs are plentiful here compared to a lot of their places in the US. Getting a government job is tough and takes forever, but there are so many political/NGO/gov contractor/think tank jobs that aren’t so tough to get. I actually really like it here. I love feeling like I’m making a difference in the big political happenings (even if it’s small since I’m just in communications). -

I've asked my husband about this. He actually applied to UK/Ireland MAs last cycle and was accepted to Cambridge, Trinity College Dublin, and the University of Edinburgh. But since there was no funding, we couldn't swing it. So this is his first time applying to PhDs (and first time applying to US schools). He's not sure he'd reapply because it's so much time, effort, money, and he'd have to bother his professors for a third year in a row to write letters. But it would be really devastating if he were shut out, as this is his dream (as I'm sure it is for all of you). -

I didn't realize there would be so many posts on the results board from people that seemingly aren't active on this forum... It makes it much more difficult to get the deets! -

I'm still holding out a bit of hope that they didn't do the 'tentative interview request' email this time, and instead just sent out actual interview requests that would possibly have been sent one by one/personally, rather than a mass mailing. -

Anyone else married with children?
punctilious replied to Daenerys's topic in Literature, and Rhetoric and Composition
Married over here! No children, though, and not planning to have any. My job is flexible and could be done remotely so it didn't really impact our choice of programs, but husband did apply to Maryland which means we could stay where we are at. He also applied to a lot of Boston area schools because that is near our family. -

I'm out of reactions but that is such awesome news! Being on the waitlist definitely means you have a chance (in addition to the validation that your app is great in general!).
