Hey I just wanted to let you know this post is what made me go look at Drexel for the first time then decide to apply. I was trying to remember where I had seen that original suggestion. I interviewed with them a couple weeks ago and now am waiting for a decision! So, thanks again for posting this, may have not ended up on my radar otherwise.

Thank you for your advise! I know I've chosen some quite ambitious schools, however, I'm currently enrolling in Imperial College London which is the 9th in the world ~ so whilst I really would love to study in the US and I'm willing to go for some slightly less prestigious schools, if they aren't highly regarded I may as well continue my studies at a top university in the UK ?
Do you have any in particular you would advise I check out?

Those are all pretty competitive schools & this year they all had a ton of applicants. I would throw in some more safety schools as well!

Hello everyone! 
This is my first time using this site so I hope I am going about this question correctly - I'm currently an international applicant looking to apply for a PhD in Neuroscience in the United States for Fall 2021 entry.
I know this is early but I would like advise early if possible from other applicants, since most colleges state they are unable to let me know of my competitiveness for their program.
My background:
I am currently about to graduate from a university in the UK you will not have heard of with a 4.0 GPA in Medical Science 
I've just been accepted into a 1-year MSc Translational Neuroscience at Imperial College London for Fall 2020 entry.
I know my GPA is competitive and I will not be required to sit the TOEFL as I'm British.
But I'm worried about my experience, in the UK we do not often publish as undergraduates and I have no publications.
I've worked on one independent research project for 8 months as part of my course and I'll be conducting one for my masters, however I doubt either will publish.
The rest of my experience is clinical - I have worked in the Emergency Department doing patient triaging and worked in palliative care for 4 years each. 
I'm looking to apply to John Hopkins, UPenn, Duke and UNC Chapel Hill.
If you have any recommended programmes that may be less competitive but respectable please let me know. 
Will I be a likely contender for the spaces on those programs? I know my experience is lacking and I cannot take time to get more before that's suggested. Please be honest as an application would cost time and money.

For those who already did their interview at NYU Sackler, did you received the names of the faculty you are interviewing with the same day? My interview starts tomorrow and I haven't received any email about who I'm interviewing with. 

Congrats! I've heard great things about Drexel. I have one more interview but I am deciding between Iowa's Genetics program (applied to neuroscience but got routed to genetics instead) and the Behavioral and Neural Sciences program at Rutgers-Newark. 
 
Anyone know much about the Newark area? I'm not sure how far the stipend will go somewhere that close to NYC.

Got an email from POI saying that they’ve decided to accept me and to expect an official letter in a couple of days!

I applied this round (for 2020 fall admissions) good luck you guys! Also just want to throw this out there - Drexel's College of Medicine is a good program that is often overlooked! Check it out if you want to and again good luck to you all! ❤️
 

I know it's early but...is it ever really too early to start a community so we can all help each other out with this crazy process?  I don't know about all of you, but applying this year is all I can think about. 

I'm still waiting for Harvard to reject me.

I have decided to start my PhD in computational neuroscience at University of Toronto this Fall (2020). I applied to these programs in computational, theoretical, and mathematical neuroscience.

Boston University California Institute of Technology Carnegie Mellon University-University of Pittsburgh University College London University of California, San Diego University of Chicago University of Oregon University of Washington GPA Undergraduate: 3.3 (Physics major from Indiana University-Bloomington) Includes:  thermodynamics, statistical mechanics, quantum physics, mechanics, electricity and magnetism, linear algebra, calculus, differential equations, neuroscience, biology, chemistry, organic chemistry, epistemology, logic, poetry, ethics, and philosophy of science. Post-baccalaureate: 4.0 Research 2 first-author manuscripts and 1 second-author. 4 years of bioinformatics research during undergrad Includes two summer REU's: one in bioinformatics (Cornell University) and one in computational neuroscience (U Chicago) 2 years of NIH postbac IRTA: 1 year of bioinformatics and 1 year of computational neuroscience Two bioinformatics contest awards and one national research award Dozens of GitHub repositories with over ten thousand commits showcasing my work in mathematics, physics, philosophy, computer science, biology, neuroscience, and other areas. I think they are done sending out invites, as their last interview dates are in 2 days

Anyone knows if NYU is still doing interviews or if it has sent out rejections? I haven't received anything from this school but there is an update (for Sackler) on results. 

Grad school can take our money for applications, but it can never take our sense of self worth or peace of mind. Hang tight and wishing everyone the best! ?
