  1. Thanks for the advice! Do you think it is possible to save money on such a stipend?
  2. Hello friends, I was recently admitted to DePaul University. The stipend they offer me is $18,700 for 9 months and I am just wondering how much of a struggle living on that will be? For reference I lived in NYC all my life so I have a general idea what it is like living in a big city.
  3. Officially declined my offer to Tulsa's PHD program. Sending best of wishes to the people on the waitlist there.
  4. You should never do a PHD unfunded unless you are independently wealthy and are just doing one because it's a life goal. Remember the schools are investing in you so a lack of promised funding might be a tip they don't value you as much. Just my take.
  5. I think barring something unexpected I ended up with 1 acceptance and 3 wait list out of 9 applications which I think is pretty alright given my weak application (Post application I had 2 poster submitted which would be my first production of my research.) It's weird I think I can have a better chance next year to get into better programs because I know I will have more positives in my profile. But as always depends on my waitlist status.
  6. How fun is the waitlist? So fun being on it
  7. You can tell them they are your first choice and if offered from the waitlist you will accept. Not sure it helps but can't hurt.
  8. Congratulations hope I can see you there!
  9. Can anybody who has been accepted by UGA message me? I have a couple of questions about their program. Thanks.
  10. Hello, I was waitlisted at UGA a month after their initial acceptances were handed out. So there might still be hope!
  11. Can someone who has been wait listed at UGA message me? I just have a question to ask.
  12. Just wondering if anybody else applied to Georgia and has not heard back in terms of a rejection? It was curious people got rejections in the mail yet I have not gotten a word yet.
  13. Just make sure you have some good questions to ask them. Depending on how qualify you are the interview might just be them trying to convince you to come there rather to see if you are a good fit.
  14. Right it just depends on what you want to do. If you have no interest in teaching then prestige does not matter as much because I don't think companies care as much. (Maybe they do I am just as clueless as you lol) If your end goal is teaching then I do think prestige of the program should be near the top of the list. Best of luck!
  15. Do you want to teach? Then find the program who has the most alums teaching in other schools? (For example Michigan State has a lot of alums in the I/O faculty world) Have you talked to fellow students who worked with your perspective adviser to know how they work? (If they are pushy, hands off etc) Location matters too if you don't want to be stuck in the middle of nowhere. You have to live in the area for at least 4 years, make sure you enjoy it. Congrats on the acceptances as I hope to join you in the I/O boat of getting multiple admissions!
  16. If I don't hear good news from my other schools I might just decline my 1 offer and try my luck next year in hopes for a better program. It is a very risky decision of course which is why it makes it tough.
  17. If Likewise for me.
  18. Likewise I have heard nothing from Clemson.
  19. For the school I am wait-listed for, which is in the middle of the list they told me if they alert me late enough, I have until like April 30 ish to accept or reject their offer. I figure they mean they hear applicant reject their offers earlier in the cycle.
  20. Generic email, same as me. I am bummed they were my first choice :/
  21. Congrats! I got placed on the waitlist, mind sharing your PI? Just interested.
  22. Would you be comfortable doing a Skype interview with one of the schools?
  23. So far I am waiting to hear anything about Colorado State Central Michigan University DePaul Clemson. I think I have been unofficially rejected from both Georgia and Texas A&M.
  24. Yup got rejected too. Oh well it wasn't my first choice so I wasn't too bummed out. I am just glad I got two interviews so far and I am greedy hoping for more
  25. From what I got from talking to other applicants is they are only accepting 3-4.
