  1. Depends on the program. The most direct way to get in is if the person who got accepted with your POI declines, but you can also get in if someone else rejects. Some of the other faculty might have decided not to waitlist anyone, so it's possible that that funding could go to another faculty's waitlist. Also depends on how many new students your POI is willing to take on. Obviously, if they accepted two students, they probably wouldn't take someone off of their waitlist until one of the original two rejects. If your POI is starting a huge project, their waitlist might be bumped up above other faculty's waitlists because they'll potentially need more help from new students. All in all, there are a lot of variables.
  2. I heard the same day the people got acceptances.
  3. Waitlisted for the counseling Ph.D. program at the University of Kentucky
  4. Thanks! Got word today that I got waitlisted at my last Ph.D. program, so I'm holding out for that. Towson was my only master's program (it's my undergrad), although when I got rejected from UMass Boston they asked if I wanted to be considered for their master's program, so I might let them do that.
  5. Well. Just got rejected from UNL after interviewing. Besides being really disappointed, I'm also very panicky now. I only have one other Ph.D. interview, so I'm feeling quite hopeless and thinking that I might have to settle for my back-up plan (masters degree first). This process is such a rollercoaster of emotions
  6. Does anyone know if schools typically send out all acceptances (or all rejections) at once after the interviews? Just saw that someone got accepted to a program that I interviewed at, but I haven't gotten an email either way.
  7. Update: Just got the official rejection email. Said that my application was competitive, but that most of the applicants had a masters or extensive post-bachelors clinical work (I'm a senior undergrad). Invited me to basically switch my application over to one of their masters degree programs.
  8. Well, the interview date is February 9th and people got invitations about 10 days ago. I just took the hint.
  9. So, I just had my first interview a few days ago, and I actually loved the school + program a lot more than I thought I would. We did 20 minutes with each professor (4). My first interview went well, my middle two were great, and my last one was okay. It's got me freaked out though because the last professor that I interviewed with is who I want to work with primarily. For context, my last interview was approximately 6 hours after the day had started, so both of us were quite socially drained by that point. I'm really hoping that the other 3 professors will reassure my POI that I did fantastic in the other interviews Also: got flat out rejected from two schools that I thought I had a great match with, both research-wise and gpa/GRE-wise. It's kind of got me down.
  10. Always be honest. Sure, creating a "perfect" answer might help you get admitted, but then you also might end up at a school that doesn't truly know what you want out of the program. I also wouldn't be worried about not being a 100% match. When you bring a different approach or a slightly different interest you are helping to grow the program and create your own path.
  11. Anyone here applying to UTK counseling program? I've seen one person get an interview on the results section, and apparently, they got the email on December 16. That's super early for UTK, from what's on the results section they typically send out invites around the 10th of January. Another person got an email (in error), and it's making me freak out that they really did send out all of the interviews early this year.
  12. I've gotten two interview invites and one rejection so far, still waiting to hear from the others. I think that my letters of rec and statement(s) of purpose did it for me. I made really good connections with faculty in the last year and a half (I'm a transfer student, which actually made applying really difficult). One letter writer was my mentor, who praised my writing ability and production rate (I'll have 3 pubs, 2 of which are first author), the other is the clinical program (masters level) director at my undergrad. I had also spoken to both POI's where I got interviews at length before I applied. It also didn't hurt that one POI has a student that came out of the lab that I'm in, and who I've done research with. I was pretty much relying on those things. My undergrad GPA was terrible (like, actually bad. Around a 3.2?) and my GRE scores were right on average for the 2 programs that I've gotten interviews at.
  13. Hey everyone. I'm applying for counseling psychology Ph.D. programs, and have received two interviews thus far (yay!). The first one is in just under a month, so I've decided to start getting ready by getting super familiar with my POI's most recent first author publications. Is there anything specific that I should be paying attention to? I've heard that some professors will ask how you would improve/add to their research, but what else should I be reading for? Does anyone know common questions that professors may ask in regard to their research?
  14. I got the rejection email today as well. I knew that my stats were going to be low, but was hoping that my pubs + letters would make up for it. Plus, 80% of Wisconsin's doctoral students come from a masters program, and I'm just now finishing undergrad, so that makes me feel a bit better. I'm only expecting to hear from one more program within the next few days (Nebraska), and I won't hear from the rest until January. I've got a list of potential common interview questions for doctoral programs in psych, so I'm trying to answer those in hopes of being prepared when interviews do roll around. I'm also going to start really digging into recent pubs for my POI at Kentucky. I'm still checking my email every 10 minutes though, tbh. Update: Just got the interview invitation from Nebraska! Now I can sit back and relax (not really) until January.
  15. I got it too, but I just skimmed over it so I didn't notice the weird sender address or the missing link. Sketchy.
